"Updater has caused an error in MXICD.DLL"
« on: September 07, 2006, 11:24:59 am »
Topis title is the error I got, if you hadn't guessed. I've tried rebooting and reinstalling and such, but I still keep getting this error. Does anyone know what I have to do to fix this? (I just KNOW it's gonna be something really obvious in the end >_<;)

Are you using Windows? Have you applied the separate patch? :}

Yes, I have Windows, and I have put in the patch (twice, too, just to be sure :D). Btw, I've also tried to do that "non gfx mode" thing, but I can't find "execute" in my start bar DX I have Windows ME, if that helps.

Just checking to be absolutely sure (sorry if this is repetitive!) - you took the files out of the .zip and put them inside the main folder, right? Sometimes we have a few people come by who don't do that and it takes more poking to figure that out.

When you install PS, you'll get a folder of PS stuffs that you can access through Start->All Programs->PlaneShift Crystal Blue, and in there you should see two different updaters - a regular one, and one that will mention "recover" mode or similar. Can you run that one?

Nah, it's okay, you're just being thorough ^_^

Yup, I moved the files to the main folder, replacing all the old ones.

I tried using the recover-updater, but nothing comes up when I click it and nothing changes.

..You know, I just figured out where you came from :] *headthonk* Hi!

I have a small suspicion that it may be an issue with some drivers/cards, after looking around. Do you have the most recent for your card? (Would be helpful to mention what it is as well.) Is it an S3 Savage MX?

If it is an S3 Savage card, they are notoriously bad for intensive 3D games, usually with only 16-32MB of RAM on the cards to work with. Unfortunately that's way below the minimum requirements, and thus there are simply no solutions to some problems.

Hoping to hear back so we can really determine if that's the case though.

XD Yeah, hi.

I assume you mean video/graphics card? I'm afraid I don't know >_<; How would I go about finding this information?

Right-click anywhere on your desktop, select "Properties," go to the "Settings" tab, and look under "Display". You should see something like "Such-and-such monitor on [ card ]" :}

Yes, it is DDD: Awww, I guess I'll have to go get a new graphics card... that might take a while. I don't exactly have a job, though I think I still have about $40 left over from summer.

Well, wish me luck! I swear I'll be back as soon as I get a better graphics card! >_<
