Router wont let me login.

I can login just fine from a different location so I know its this particular router.
Laanx Server pings just fine, but when I click "Login", I get the "server is not responding.." message.
I have tried fixing ports in the router but not sure what needs to be done.

As usual, as always again:

First check the website of the current game server if the game server is online at the moment and accepting logins at all (there are maintenance times when the server only accepts developer access; sometimes it may even just recover from a crash).

Currently (for version 0.6.x) the server website is: http://planeshift.teamix.org/ (compare "Time:" and "Report Time:" to check if the report is live).

Another possible way is asking in the IRC channel #planeshift on Freenode.

Usually you don't have to actively open any ports in your router, especially not Port 7777 on your side. It only needs to support UDP connections on demand at all, listening to any port which has been opened for sending; this should be the default for most DSL routers.

I do know the server is online.
I'll try irc, just thought id ask here first before i went to the trouble of getting it.

It maybe your firewall blocking it. Turn off the one on your router.

Some ISPs have been known to block domains.

Three things:


1. Are you able to bypass the router and connect directly to prove/disprove whether or not its the router?

2. Can you ping the server

3. Maybe pm Talad to see if your ip address (or range) is on their block list?

One thing I can think of that happened to me is something bad in the DNS cache. Can't remember exactly how I fixed it, but it may be worth looking into if you're still having issues.

dont want to bother him, but i might give it a try.

it seems to me its either the isp, or that ip is somehow on the blocklist.

dont see how it could be the dns cache.

thanks everybody for your help, i think ill just stick it out with the location that does work. i just thought that since i can ping, i ought to be able to connect.

Regarding 1.: If it is a "DSL router" (is its brand and model a secret?), you may need it to connect to the internet at all.

But it might as well be a LAN router in a segmented network, rather usual in a big company with several departments, where routers give each department a local subnet, and here you may be able to "get closer to the internet access gateway".

Being able to ping doesn't mean being able to connect to transfer data. The protocol used by ping is quite low in the hierarchy of network protocols. You may be allowed to connect to TCP port 80 = http://planeshift.teamix.org — but not to connect to UDP port 7777 on the same server. Being allowed or blocked can be quite specific.
