Problem with updating in pslaunch
« on: September 16, 2012, 03:06:09 pm »
Hello.
I have had problems with updating. When I open the pslaunch I get
the pslaunch screen and the message that says update available. If I
click yes it goes to the updater page and starts checking the mirrior
update: I get 194.116.72.94 as mirrior site.
Then the first line of the updating I think it is--pslaunchosx.zip
starts updating on the screen. It reaches 100% and then the
launcher quits. I have tried this quite a few times, with no change.
That 'update available' always appears when I open pslaunch and when
I try to update it starts loading then quits.
I have tried to click 'no' when starting the launcher and try 'repair' instead, but
no files come up in need of being added or repaired.

I am using mac os 10.4.11 and ps version 5.9.1.  The game
plays find, I just do not know with this updater problem if I
am getting any updates which might be getting added to the
game. Thank you for any reply.

You have to unpack the zip file manually. Go into your game file and fine the zip file. Double click on the zip file and it should expand into a folder. Open the folder and the times that are in the folder move them to replace the older existing items in your game folder. You have to put the new items in the same places/files that the existing older item you are replacing are.

At least this is a work around for your issue and once you have th updater updated the rest of the update should run fine the next time you run the update.

Hello. I saw the message that this thread is old, and I did do what was
told to me to resolve things back then and things worked. But my new
question now is an updater one, so I didn't think I needed to start a new
thread to ask a similar update question.
Anyway, I read that there was an update on the 19th of Oct. However,
when I open the client I get no auto message saying there is a new
update. Nothing new comes up even when I try pslaunch repair. Both
client and pslaunch are 5.9.2.
So if the news said there was a new update, why am I not seeing
anything about getting an update in psclient or pslaunch?
I  am running a mac with OS X Lion. Version 10.7.5
  Thank you for any reply.

Hi
I'm a complete newbiw and havn't even played yet.
I can't get anything to work - the faq guides havn't helped much either.
My problem is I'm unable to launch like the above problem - except this is my first launch.
I'm using Mac O/S 10.6.
I dl the game today and the info on how to install is as hard to find as getting Nasa to disclose alien proof.
I found somewhere saying drop the folder into applications so I did.
I was able to find and use pslaunch but then the above issue takes place with update issue. The faq help on this subject just says "run the Updater in non-GUI mode; with the -auto command line option"
Well this means diddly squit to me - I'm quite new to macs and don't know where to start. (I have no access to a pc to play it on that format - not that I have any wish to use one ever again)

Also I couldn't try the the above possible solution as I'm afraid to say I don't understand what the hell Sarva is on about. Is this a Mac or PC answer?

Someone please help - I just wanna play the game for the first time  :-(

Hello PerchMan72,

I cannot really help you with the Mac, but try the IRC - there is almost always somebody on. Instructions on the PS website.

Good luck, and see you soon in PlaneShift.

To solve the pslaunch update issue you need to unpack the launch updater zip file manually and move the files to the correct locations.

do the following.
In the Planeshift game folder you should see a file named pslaunchmacosx.zip
Click on that file and you should get a new folder named pslaunchmacosx
In the folder you will see a new pslaunch.app move that file into the main game folder, where the current pslaunch.app is and when asked if you want to replace the older version of that file with the newer version click yes, or the replace button I forget what exactly it is.
return to the pslaunchmacosx folder and open the art folder move the file in the art folder into the art folder in the main game folder. Again say you want to replace the older version of the file already in the art folder.
Return to the pslaunchmacosxfolder and open the data folder in the data folder will be another folder called gui. take the file out of the gui folder and move it into the data/gui folder in the main game folder and again replace the older version of the file.

After doing this if you have done it correctly then you should be able to run the update from the pslaunch.app note after running the update the game has never launched on Mac using the pslaunch.app so after you are fully updated just start the game client directly. Only use the pslaunch.app for getting updates and adjusting some settings, like graphics and sound etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Sarva

That would appear to have done something with update as I no longer get the error message.

Now when I try to log on through client I type in email address (I have registered and confirmed) then type in password and it says "Laanx server (main)                     failed"

Any ideas?

Thanks

Kieron

Hello Kieron,

Sometimes there is a small server problem, and normally it is enough to wait a bit and try again. Right now, everything looks ok (there are some numbers instead of the "failed" message), and you should be able to connect.

Connect, create a character, do the tutorial, and ask questions whenever you have problems. We even have a Help channel.

See you soon,

whats IRC?

IRC = Internet Relay Chat

You can either install an IRC client, or use the Webchat site of Freenode. Chose any nickname you like, select the channel '#planeshift'. There you can talk live to people.

To check if the game server is working, visit the Game Server's Website, compare "Time" and "Report Time". If they are close, and you don't see an "Offline", the server is probably working. The game client needs to be able to contact the server via UDP protocol. If you have a local firewall, it should be set up to listen to ports recently opened, which should be the default for most of them.

Thanks guys  :-)

Just tried to log in and the moment you put curser to account field the server status immidiatly goes to failed.
Trying anyway does nothing.

Anyone else finding this?

I do hope this game is worth all the fuss  :-)

As a mac user I don't half miss the good old rpg games like might & magic. I was hoping this would replace the lack of M&M series on the mac.

Hello again PerchMan72,

Sorry to hear you still have problems. The one you mention does not ring a bell with me, but as I said before, I am not a Mac user. Try the IRC: Go to http://www.planeshift.it/irc.html and follow the instructions under 1). Once connected, type a message to those who are already there so they see you arrive. No worries, it is half as complicated as it may sound.

Good luck, and see you soon.

Maybe in the palaunch.app under settings try to reduce your screen resolution

Oh my goawd! Another overly complicated programme to install and log into.

Why do I get the impression everyone is computer/software engineers and all these different clients etc are simple to them but to me is mega complicated.

I was a member of Mensa but I find this like rocket science and it all makes me feel incredibly thick!

I'll give it a try.

Thanks   :-[

I cannot find a mac IRC from the suggested links.

I will continue to look.
