General Discussion / Re: Magic Is Not Overpowered...

I happen to agree with Marqsaynt's other personality :)

One good way to improve magic at this time, just like you suggested, would be to add player targeting, not auto-target, 100% chance hit.

Development Deliberation / Re: Creating our own MMO
« on: August 12, 2009, 07:57:23 am »
Hi there. Some of the questions you ask are pretty advanced. You might want to log in to IRC, channel #planeshift-build and ask some of the developers present in the channel.

From my own personal tests a while ago, I was able to use this database structure for my purposes and update it via the webconsole or via phpmyadmin. The current tools are being improved and even new ones being created, but I really can't say for sure which version is stable at this time.

You might want to stick around for the next release which includes some major changes (like for example to the quest system).

To create your own game, you will have to create your own art, music, quests & game rules, but you can reuse the code and DB as you please.

General Discussion / Re: How to cheat other players with an alt
« on: August 06, 2009, 08:13:29 am »
Yes, I just started playing alt and like her a lot. It gives me a chance to stretch my creativity.

That is exactly what alts are for.

As a GM I cannot moderate that kind of behaviour because it is not disruptive to the game, but as a player I strongly disagree with wasting other people's time when you already know how to play.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: Hey! Oldbie here!
« on: August 05, 2009, 02:37:16 am »
I'd say it has changed quite a bit since '05!

There are some new textures and character models, new areas to explore.
The graphics (or graphic style) haven't changed too much, but the Crystalspace engine (rendering) has a lot more capabilities ready to be used by PS in the future.
The engine has improved a lot and many new features are being added or revised and improved.
There is much more settings content, more quests, more money and experience from them (the quest system is under rework, possibly for next release for menu-driven dialogue mostly).
There are now 2 servers! One for RP the other for Non-RP, and you can have (separate) accounts for both.
Of course, there are many more bugs!  ;) Be patient, take your time and you'll do fine.

I don't think this type of request is currently supported by our mods.

If I may make a suggestion - also include a link to the forums, besides the main PS page and the recruitment page. It might be useful to folks who have initial install problems.

Another selling point is No Lag & out of prying Rp'ers eyes. We can conduct our "exercises", at BD with inpunity.

If you really want something like that, I think the non-RP server might be better suited. Definitely less lag or "nag".

If you do decide to play on the RP server and don't want to roleplay this even the slightest, at least use /group.

Other than that, I like the idea, should be quite interesting. Capture the flag events would also be fun.

Eye candy, and in some cases, AI. Not necessarily AI breakthroughs, perhaps simply optimizations based on human behaviour.

Making a face, trying to persuade the photographer not to do it. What you see in the background are a few peaks from the Carpathian mountains.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Stupid error while compiling

Are you sure you're following the compiling guide to the letter?

http://planeshift.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/planeshift/trunk/docs/compiling.html

It says in there how to download the correct CS version and export variables.

Ligh makes a very good point.

Some bugs are very hardware dependent, that's why the team needs community help. Even all the testers combined cannot test all the possible (hardware/software) combinations which would create a bug
