How my hearts beats...or thus stops...for some time, before once again beating yet some how restricted... its a story, if its not a story here, its stupid. Read the lore...tell your story. Some times you character should die, and some times they should live. its a story. That is the point.

Siteya will be there...or someone attached to me, if I can do the time conversion right :P

I was so happy to see this post today, it soothes my nostalgia for a populated roleplaying PS.

I come from a theater background, you are given a script, unlike PS, so you know already what your characters actions will be and exactly where you will stand on stage. With a script, the art is in developing your characters motives. The best teacher I had when I was studying character development, was skilled in the art of deflating the personal ego you bring to your  character. He  asked what the limitations of your character where, what underlying damage motivated your character, he made you step away from a glorious performance and your personal limitations, or intentions to bring depth to your portrayal, he made you go beyond yourself to create an authentic performance.

The challenges we face in PS...

We are a small community, with all sorts of glorifying magics, we want to support others role plays and character motives all the while appease our own motives and stories, and we can do that easily when we can fix it all up clean with a chosen magic way.

We try to balance interactions, in an infinite ongoing world, with characters dropping in and out, huge gaps in ongoing story lines,  in a story that potentially have no end....my heart goes out to all the abandoned married characters, wondering when their lover will ever return.

we have an incestuous community that becomes far to supportive of each other IC, in its limited populace. Our characters work out their differences, eventually bond and thus run to save each other out of sentimental love that has developed over time.

We need more baddies to create conflict and sabotage IC sentimental love, this is an understatement.

Our characters need to live with the choices they make, with no exceptions or potions or magic to set it back to right again.

We need to let go of characters we spend to much time with and stretch our imaginations with new characters...sometimes our characters should just die from boredom.

There is a redundancy of know it all characters...oh how I crave interactions with flawed and limited characters...

We also must remember the more we play, the more we are invested in story lines, and this gives us a feeling of ownership in how the story shall play out...not necessarily godmodding, but more of a repeated cycle of rp deja vu, this has the potential to trample other folks who may have something to offer to the solution or chaos and possibly surprise you. Go into the roleplay with the intentions of always playing a supporting role.

and of course we all need to log in to do all of that...

This message was fueled by punchy insomnia.

This was a pretty tragic event, really shocked my familia here in Spain. Being from the states while this is happening has been bizarre, it was very hard last night to get the news in English about the details. I was actually in Paris last year at this time, just before the bombings, (lots of heavily armed militia roaming the streets) very near to one of the tragic attacks that just happened. The borders are not closed, but they are doing customs checks, usually you drive across from Spain to France with no stops at all, no stations set-up. I am headed to Montsegur tomorrow, just across the border of Spain into France, near the Pyrenees, about 8 hours from Paris, we are keeping are fingers crossed that we don't get stuck in big lines of traffic trying to get in to the country.

Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) / Re: A Life Devoted
« on: August 25, 2015, 12:41:08 am »
I have only read the first few posts, just wonderful work! I really loved reading the role play event where you took folks into the cave and lit a fire and told the mythology of the Enkis. I really loved how your character was able to be such a powerful bardic voice and eloquently keep the audience held captive, all the while showing such tremendous spiritual depth. If any character could convince  Siteya to hunt, because it is sacred, it would be Aramara.

Joseph Campbell is one of my favorite authors, I refer to him often when I teach and I am quite sure we could have some very nice talks (around a fire) about religion and spirituality, I promise to finish reading all the posts!

Quests and leveling should have nothing to do with roleplay, there is absolutely no way that the two can merge in PS, when your character is developed and complex, which many that play regularly are, the quests just seem silly and out of context, and those that rp their levels and quest knowledge just kill me with their lack of creativity. Unless it is a game where there is a DM managing your daily events, it is just to cookie cutter for a roleplayer to converge the two and really should be avoided because it is lame. Sue me for my frankness, but I would like to think we can spawn beautiful stories without having to discuss the quests and levels we achieved while drinking beers at the bar. zzzzzzzzzzz So with that said, Siteya currently has a high faction with Laanx LOL. When I level and quest, I try to do it OOC incognito, I have found no reasonable way to merge the two that would not be silly.

General Discussion / Re: Rigwyn for GM
« on: June 15, 2015, 05:39:48 pm »
I think one of the most overlooked aspects in the management of PS is the one thing that makes the game so unique, it is primarily a role play game, and the quests are great, yes you can level, but much of the die hard community loves this game for the role play. I am pleased at the gm inspired events, and it is nice to see some of them bridging a gap that is much needed. But I really think the team needs diplomatic role players to step up and smooth over the riffs between players and the team, help build a stronger rp community, build a fortified bridge, we need a lorax on the team. I know this has been mentioned before and should be handled with kid gloves, but seriously I think it would help to improve so many of the issues of "Us vs them" This roleplay/public relations GM would then need to be voted in by the players to ensure that they are actually capable of good rp and also heard and respected. Rigwyn is the kind of person that can handle that sort of title, he is diplomatic, always focused more on story development then personal character gain, he knows the settings and the technicalities. With that being said, many online games that are pay to play use polls and voting, this only helps to improve the relationship between the team and the players, growing the level of contentment and enjoyment and also it is free marketing research. PS could stand for more of that. On an end note, PS is in need of a new kind of GM, that the game has not truly seen yet. The first poll  should be to ask those that roleplay, what sort of attributes do you think a GM should possess to help build a better RP community?
