once it's all finished, i'd love to hear the player reviews of the quest. Was it something that took the entire guild effort to complete? Did you feel it was appropriately geared towards your guild?

I confirm.
Alas I tested it on the console myself and added some fix.
Then the test server went down and I assumed that all was working.

Alas I added a step in the wrong place.
Sorry for all of that, my fault.

The fix should be ready on the console. I don't know if it is already uploaded yet, but I'd like to check throughly before setting it back to live server.

Me too. And I'd like already to listen to them if there are any.

i don't see how the quest had anything to do with the Way of the Hammer, other than it involving dwarves.

I guess you missed the reference to the founding member of Way of the Hammer in the quest.

I talked with a few members of the hammer. The way of the hammer was mentioned, but that was about it.
Ardoin: So, do you drink moonshine?
Earowo: As long as it has alcohol, I'll drink it.

Still seems like a lot of information was requested of the guilds that entered just for a mention of the name. Silly me thought maybe part of the guild's past achievements or characters names might have been worked in somewhere. Having named Kada El's after a past player still fits nicely into PS history without having the player still around.

Indeed ... Hamel could well get a slight nostalgic touch, like ... that threatening from the Onyx Dagger crew (remember the undercover quest with Nodramok) wouldn't happen if there were more people as patriotic as the Dwarven Star generals like ... and ...

That was my promise:

The quest will be “related” to the winner guild. It won’t be an official guild quest. This means:
- The quest style will be the same of the guild style. Ex. If will win a Guild of professional gossippers the quest will be about spreading gossips.
- I can add some story element of the guild in the quest. Ex. I can mention something of the guild, such as an important member or event. (but only if we agree, so if you think that’s a bad point just tell me)
- The starting NPC will be near the guild location.

Here's the report of The Way of The Hammer.

Quote
Guild name: The Way of The Hammer

Guild site: http://inter-link.ath.cx/forum

Guild Mission: To help all dwarves and to teach our ways.  To collect the artefacts of our ancesters, known as items "of the Hammer"

Guild Style: A cooperative (mostly lawful) and proud society  structured in the Keeper, the council, warriors, crafters, merchants, teachers, mages, and elders – consisting of dwarven members from both clans, Stonebreakers and Hammerwielders.

Guild Values: Friendship, Beer, Loyalty to the Guild.

Date of creation: October 2005.

Guild main story event (minimum 3 - max 5):
"... there was a way of life for many of the Dwarven Clans. It was known as 'The Way of the Hammer'."
http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=19612.0
"The dwarfs decided it would be best to reorganize the alliance to suit their new life in the city. A guild was formed..."
The Dwarven wars: http://inter-link.ath.cx/forum/index.php?topic=52.0
The Gugrontid Platinum Frenzy http://inter-link.ath.cx/forum/index.php?topic=54.0

Guild location: Hydlaa upper plaza near Amidison Stronghand -92, 27, 57
       http://inter-link.ath.cx/forum/MGalleryItem.php?id=41

Members: 1) The hammers help dwarves in game,   sometimes they ask to join us after being helped.  We hold a short interview then accept them as pathseekers,  if they are still with us after a week or two, they are promoted to full members.
 2) Pathseeker of the Hammer - A newcomer to the guild, yet to prove themselves and choose a path

Crafter of the Hammer - The Crafters are asked to craft the finest items they can, be it weapons, armour, food or other goods.

Hunter of the Hammer - A quester and hunter of great items. They are asked to find and collect all various items that the guild would regard as treasure.

Mage of the Hammer - The Mage is asked to protect the Way with their magic.

Guard of the Hammer - The Guard is asked to protect the guild in all ways. They are first into battle in times of war.

Teacher of the Hammer - Teachers are responsible for guiding all pathseekers in learning the ways.

Elder of the Hammer - This is a position given to those whom the guild wish to recognize for their contribution to the guilds history. Only retired or semi retired dwarfs will hold this position.

Council of the Hammer - Council members are trusted members who the keeper can rely on to help make decisions. A Council member is 2nd in command therefore only well respected and active members will be chosen by the Keeper.

Keeper of the Hammer - The leader of our guild, his task is to protect the Way and his fellow dwarves.  Holder of the ceremonial hammer that represents dwarven unity
.
3) Cilay Mecur: Keeper of the Hammer for many years (now retired), rebuilt the guild from almost nothing, well respected amongst other guild leaders in Yliakum
Rheos:  Council of the Hammer. Second in command of the Hammers and well known in Yliakum,  a good teacher and always willing to lend a hand to others.
Evaraj: Teacher of the Hammer.  Long time guild member, has guided many hammers in the ways. Curator of the ancient artifacts of the hammer

4) We currently have 71 members.

* What you like the most of your guild: The friendship we have built with each other. The way our guild can work as a team when needed.

Guild motto!: Drink ale and have fun!

Now I insert the elements I implemented.
FIRSTLY AND MAINLY
- The quest style will be the same of the guild style. Ex. If will win a Guild of professional gossippers the quest will be about spreading gossips.
Quote
Guild Mission: To help all dwarves and to teach our ways.
- Quest is for about dwarves.
Quote
Friendship, Beer, Loyalty to the Guild.
- Quest is about beer. Quest is about loyalty (Narwin struggle).

Quote
Crafter of the Hammer - The Crafters are asked to craft the finest items they can, be it weapons, armour, food or other goods.
- Quest is about weapons and armors (they need mineral to creat weapons)
- Quest is about food (they need food to sustain dwarves)

Quote
Elder of the Hammer - This is a position given to those whom the guild wish to recognize for their contribution to the guilds history. Only retired or semi retired dwarfs will hold this position.
- Quest is about respecting will of the elders (minor one, since is more the will of the community, but currently I didn't find a better way to create using the NPC we had near the location)

Quote
Hunter of the Hammer - A quester and hunter of great items. They are asked to find and collect all various items that the guild would regard as treasure.
AND
Quote
To collect the artefacts of our ancesters, known as items "of the Hammer"
- Quest is about collecting artifacts. That's the main item, since this is the element that differentiate more the guild from the others.

Secondly.
- I can add some story element of the guild in the quest. Ex. I can mention something of the guild, such as an important member or event. (but only if we agree, so if you think that’s a bad point just tell me)
This was the minor one. I didn't even know for sure if palyers agreed on this.
But I added the element:
Quote
Cilay Mecur: Keeper of the Hammer for many years (now retired), rebuilt the guild from almost nothing, well respected amongst other guild leaders in Yliakum

And lastly.
Promise:
- The starting NPC will be near the guild location.
Location:
Quote
Guild location: Hydlaa upper plaza near Amidison Stronghand -92, 27, 57

I thought I implemented almost all the things inserted in their topic.
As weltall already said I didn't want to create a quest formally tied to a guild, I also told that.

Quote
- The quest has a story indipendent from the guild, so the quest will remain forever! Also after the eventual closure of the guild.
-> I’m choosing so since the guild can close, but its story will remain, and be a part (little, or maybe big) of Planeshift history.

I hope this explain the choices made in the creation of this quest.

Hi drJack,  I can see from your posts that you put a lot of thinking into the quest and did as you promised with the guild's information. No one can fault you for that and I applaud your efforts to include actual player guilds into the game giving them some deserved recognition.

My previous comment above was based more from the other posters than from the actual quest itself. I evidently made a wrong choice in attempting the quest and had it ended before I got very far with it. When Narwin had no further information to say to me, I thought there was no farther I could go and so chose Hamel's option to give up. Still, from those who did complete the quest fully, unless they were to know all of these things about the guild, it's mission, etc., etc., there's really no way to notice a lot of the relationships, other than the obvious mention of names.
