                         In an effort to inspire worthwhile descussion between fans I introduce to you a very contriversial topic. How do you feel about

                         Heres my take on pking in general:
                         -It should be allowed in Planeshift but of course there will be very vigilant miltias in cities.
                         -pking should also be allowed outside of town ( not just in designated areas) but there should be level limits. For excample If I
                         had a lvl 4 dwarf he could only attack 4 lvls below and above him.
                         - thirdly I think pkers should be able to loot 1 item off there victims corpse in order to insure a game that doesn\'t become dull or
                         un-dangerous. The Player should be able to also loot half the money off the victims corpse also.
                         - Next I think there should be faction hits for killing one\'s race only. For instance if Jade killed 4 of his dwarven kin in a day, the
                         dwarven guards would kill him on sight;till he regained his faction by killing evil aligned players or monsters.

                         In conclusion pking both randon and consentual should be allowed in Planeshift but with level restictions.

                         I think that pking shouldn\'t be such a large roll in this game.
                         Cooperation, and teamwork, would be better. Such as working together on defeating monsters.
                         Buechler\'s idea of pking is a good one. But I don\'t think in the long run, that it will work out. If someone is mining. He doenst want
                         to die just because he didn\'t have armor on, in order to hold more ores. So there should be certain arena\'s where you can
                         congregate to fight. AND place bets on certain players.
                         Dueling could also be interesting. Such as each player agrees to duel. That way. No one feels that he has been abused by the
                         other player. As he himself has agreed on dueling.

                         I think realism should definalty be put into this game, I think you should be able to attack anywhere you want to, but NPC\'s will
                         dislike you and maybe they won\'t trade with you or something. Maybe have like a karma thing. The nicer you are to people, the
                         nicer people are to you. I think powerful gaurds should be put all over towns and along trails.

                         But I like the deul idea. Maybe Deuling won\'t hurt your karma, but random attacking will

                         the only reason I would not like PKing is if I was mining, or smithing. Maybe make it so you can\'t attack people that arn\'t wielding
                         swords, but if you do attack a large group of rangers will assist the poor attackee.

                         Erm, I guess I will be the only person to actually answer Firestorm\'s question which was \'How do you feel about pking in
                         general?\' not \'How do you feel about pking in Planeshift?\'.

                         PKing whilst not fun for the other person is still actually a prominant part in Roleplay. For example if you are playing a
                         Highwaymen and you use the age old line \'Stand And Deliver, Your Money Or Your Life\' then the victim runs the right thing to do
                         is kill them so you are remaining IC. But PKing as in playing the part of a Cleric and killing newbies is not Roleplay its immature.

                         PKing gives benefit to people who like to powergame, forcing roleplayer to try to powergame as well. This game will be full of
                         COOL DUDEZ and people who play the game as a different version of quake of doom.

                         PKing is part of roleplaying, but if not controled it can become a caos. Mytharria (http://www.mytharria.com) does a good job in reguard
                         to PKING. They are a UO shard and they ban people for PKING with roleplaying. People never PK unless they have a reason to.

                         It depends on how much the dev teams want to make this game a Roleplaying Game. If they want to have another type of Ever
                         Crack, I dont care much, because I will not be plying it. But if they are trying to make a TRUE roleplaying game then I am
                         conserned.

                         haha... i dont think so. This is only a opensource engine where useing here those are some heavy features youve listed...

                         I can try but my skills in C++ are simple only and I\'m gonna have to learn how to do it thru opengl.

                         These are the Crystal Space Features:
                         Crystal Space is a free 6DOF portal based engine (based on the LGPL license). Current features are:

                         * General Architecture:
                         * True 6DOF engine with arbitrary sloped convex polygons.
                         * Flexible plugin system which allows for plugging in other modules including scripting languages. Python and LUA scripting
                         plugins are already included. There are also various other plugins (fonts, sound, ...).
                         * Crystal Space uses SCF for communication between several layers (like between the 3D Engine and the 3D Rasterizer). This
                         allows plug-and-play capabilities and other nice stuff.
                         * Support for 8-bit (palette), 15/16-bit (truecolor), and 32-bit (truecolor) displays.
                         * Crystal Space has commandline arguments and can run at many resolutions (320x200, 640x480, 800x600, ...).
                         * Very configurable via commandline or configuration file.
                         * C++ source (and optional assembler) is available. Crystal Space falls under the LGPL GNU copyleft license for libraries which
                         means that the engine can be used in commercial products provided you can conform to the LGPL license (no, you DON\'T have
                         to release the source of your game if you use CS).
                         * cs-config script to make it easier for external applications to use CS.
                         * Textures and Texture Mapping:
                         * Textures can have any size which is a power of two and they need not be square.
                         * Crystal Space supports textures with various formats including GIF, TGA, PNG, BMP, JPG, and others.
                         * It is possible to map a texture on a polygon in various ways (rotated, scaled, mirrored, ...).
                         * Perspective correct texture mapping with interpolation every 16 pixels.
                         * Transparent and semi-transparent textures allowing for see-through water surfaces and windows.
                         * In addition to the usual lightmapped textures you can also use triangles which are gouroud shaded.
                         * Mipmapping to minimize memory strain on the texture cache and to have nicer looking textures when a polygon is far away.
                         * Support for dynamic textures (i.e. texture that you can render on and put on a polygon as well as normal textures).
                         * Support for internal 24-bit textures with a private colormap for every texture or true 24-bit.
                         * Multi-texturing with OpenGL.
                         * Engine Features:
                         * Dynamic gouroud shaded sky dome (half-sphere) for a very realistic and nice looking sky. With very little programming it is
                         possible to have a moving sun which actually modifies the color of the sky in real-time.
                         * Support for multi-layered and animated skyboxes and skydomes.
                         * Landscape engine.
                         * Crystal Space supports mirrors!
                         * With mirrors and alpha mapping you can create really nice shiny or reflecting surfaces.
                         * Static colored lights with real shadows. Lighting and shadows are precalculated before the world is displayed.
                         * Dynamic colored lights with soft shadows!
                         * Precalculated Radiosity on the Lightmaps!
                         * 3D triangle mesh sprites with frame animation. Convertors for Quake MDL and Quake II MD2 formats to Crystal Space are
                         included. Importers for 3DS, MDL, MD2, OBJ, POV, and ASE are also included. The meshes are actually progressive meshes
                         allowing for dynamic LOD (level of detail) changes. There is also support for skeletal sprites.
                         * 2D sprites and a particle system using those 2D sprites.
                         * Depth-correct colored volumetric fog in sectors (both software and hardware renderers).
                         * Optional halo\'s around lights for nice atmospheric effects. Also support for lens-flares.
                         * Support for curved surfaces (Beziers, ...).
                         * Visibility system based on a combination of portals, octrees, BSP trees and c-buffer (coverage buffer).
                         * Hardware accelerated transforms (if available and with OpenGL) for 3D triangle mesh sprites, curved surfaces, and terrain
                         engine.
                         * Portability:
                         * Currently Crystal Space has been ported to DOS (DJGPP), Unix (X Windows, OpenGL), GNU/Linux (X Windows, SVGALIB,
                         SDL, and OpenGL) Macintosh (also with OpenGL), Windows 32-bit (DirectDraw, Direct3D (in progress), and OpenGL), BeOS
                         (also with OpenGL), NextStep, OpenStep, Rhapsody, and OS/2 (also with OpenGL).
                         * Optional Direct3D hardware accelaration on Windows for DX8 is in progress.
                         * Optional OpenGL hardware acceleration on Windows, GNU/Linux, BeOS, Macintosh, and OS/2. The OpenGL port has been
                         tested with Mesa on GNU/Linux and works very well. The other OpenGL ports will also work well.
                         * Optional MMX support for processors that support it.
                         * File Format Support:
                         * Crystal Space can directly load 3DS, MDL, MD2, ASE, OBJ, or POV objects.
                         * Powerful ASCII world file format allowing you to easily redefine the world (a real editor is in development (MazeD)).
                         * Levels can be stored in standard compressed ZIP archives so that you can easily make a bundle of one level.
                         * It\'s possible to make libraries of objects, textures and other game related stuff and put it all in a seperate ZIP file.
                         * A convertor to convert MAP files (from Quake/HalfLife) to CS is also included. You can use this to edit levels with
                         QuarK/WorldCraft or other editors.
                         * A convertor to convert 3DS to models or levels is included.
                         * Several Blender scripts (Python) are included to export models and levels from within Blender.
                         * Various Other Features:
                         * Font system plugin to support other font types. Currently CS fonts and truetype fonts are supported.
                         * Moving objects and a (currently limited) script language controlling the movement.
                         * Hierarchical bounding box collision detection system.
                         * Powerful physics library is included too. It is a dynamics modeling and simulation engine.
                         * Sound support (for Windows, GNU/Linux and Macintosh only currently).
                         * Support for 3D sound (DS3D, EAX, A3D, ...).
                         * Support for various sound formats: WAV, MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, AU, AIFF, IFF, and MOD (using MikMod).
                         * Simple networking support for Windows, GNU/Linux and Unix (sockets based).
                         * There is also an input/output console (like in Quake) that can be activated with the \'tab\' key.

                         Here are things which are currently in progress:

                         * Work on all 3D rasterizers (Direct3D, and OpenGL). Trying to improve them every day. Better support for hardware accelerated
                         transform and lighting is one of the things we\'re working on all the time.
                         * Continue work on curved surfaces (add Nurbs and other types of curves, improve lightmapping, ...).
                         * More work on the sound system (like sounds which are influenced by the 3D position of an object and so on ...).
                         * Start work on PVS (Potentially Visible Set).

                         Here are several things that we plan to do for Crystal Space in the near future:

                         * We will start working on a general LOD (Level Of Detail) manager in CS.


                         As you can see this isnt just any opensource engine :)

                         So it supports hardware transormations.
                         Great if you have a T&L video card.

                         That is what I call an engine it looks extremely awesome.
                         It says that it has mmx support. It doesn\'t look like it will have direct support for SSE,2 instruction sets.

                         I think Direct3D support for T&L is still being worked on, you should register to the CS mailing lists to get the latest
                         announcements.

                         CS is very awesome indeed, and I find it to be one of the best, if not, the best freely available 3d engine.

                         What do you think that\'s more important in a mass multiplayer online role playing game, the graphics, or the gameplay? Don\'t
                         say lame things like; it\'s something of both, because I know many of you enjoy playing RS very much, and if there\'s one thing
                         that RS has not, it\'s beautiful graphics. If you had to choose one of the two, what would you like planeshift to be, fantastic visuals
                         and less gameplay, or the other way around?

                         I like the graphics PLaneshift has right now. There not super awesome, but they\'re nice. Overall I think gameplay is more
                         important.

                         If Planeshift has awesome gameplay with its current graphics, the game will rule!!!

                         i think graphics only need to be good enough to not get in the way of game play(if you have a hard time seeing characters,or the
                         animation is bad .. then the graphics have not served their purpose).. good graphics are a bonus, and nice to look at..
                         gameplay is , lol, the life essences of gaming.graphics should never interfer with the gameplay, only enhance it..
                         but! if you have good artistic quality in a game that game will age well..
                         (omg.. i sound like a wine taster)

                         for me it is gameplay all the way.... i am so used to these mind blowing graphics of today but i turn them away and play stupid
                         looking game like Dragon Warrior III an my son\'s game boy color. game play and story is all i need. graphics are nothing but eye
                         candy. take EQ for example. there are no true RPers on EQ cause the story and game play are lacking, but it looks so perty(:-p)
                         people come to play it in groves.

                         Graphics and gameplay are 2 seperat things, and usualy dont interfer with one another... the reason so many games that are
                         produced with flashy graphics are crap when played are because teh graphics are used to conpensate for an originaly bad
                         gameplay design.

                         Good graphics doesnt mean theres somethig wrong with gameplay at all...

                         Kendrics comment on music is well said... most mmorpgs at teh moment have realy crap music nad its never used enough
                         (although that can be understandable since it can get repedative in such a game type), and with out good music atmosphere
                         cant be made... art can go only so far but with the right accompanyment of music the art in a game can be blasted even further.
                         the two play well off one another.

                         as for EQ being pretty... id hate to see what you term ugly ^_^. EQ is hideousely bad in the graphics department (with the
                         exseption of maybe Kunark, its only saveing grace)

                         I hope to help make planeshift look very professional ^_^ and very \"WOWish\". You have my vow...

                         We should strive to make both great graphics and gameplay, if one side eventualy fails at least we got teh other.

                         Absolutely gameplay, no question. Without the core gameplay being right no amount of flashy visuals can make a great game.

                         What would be nice though, whatever the graphics are like, is a high degree of customisation at character generation and in
                         game, I think it adds a lot to the role play element and allows you to make your character into more of an idividual. Wouldn\'t it be
                         nice to eventually be able to recognise other people in game just by seeing them on screen?

                         For me , its also gameplay.

                         A game with good graphics is fun to play for 1 month , but if the gameplay sucks it will get bored fast.

                         the Graphics will attract new players the gameplay will keep them!

                         I came to this game as a result of the Screenie (most everyone did) and I\'m hooked as I hope it will have AWESOME gameplay.
                         So far a lot of our Rsers lack in roleplaying abiltity :( but a lot do. I hope for good RPing and great gameplay and limited pking (I
                         said LIMITED)

                         Gameplay is essential. Without in-depth gameplay, a game has essentially no future. High-quality graphics, on the other hand,
                         are good only for attracting new players.


                         (For the record, one of my favorite games is Nethack.)

                         Gameplay, graphics can\'t just make a good game.

                         Join the Planescape clane \"Order of the helping hand\" if you want to help those around you.
                         When the clan has become a guild every new joiner will get a free weapon and an armor set.

                         I think the gameplay is most important, as long as the graphics arent too bad, too flashy or too good as to obscure the
                         gameplay. So definately, great gameplay is a must, graphics I dont much care about.

princessfun: during char creation a db of bad words will be used to check names.
                              Kendaro: no, we will not add a 13th race... 12 are enough for our 2d and 3d artists.
                              Kendaro: at least not until release 1.0 (that will be after demo, after Alpha and after Beta)
                              anonymous moderation in game will be a major presence in PS then?
                              Talad: how many demos are in the plans before alfa?

                              Kendaro: first the player can donate for server hardware/bandwidth. In this case nothing changes on his

                              that\'s all really encouraging to hear, but surely if PS starts to take up most of developers time then
                              they will have to earn somehow - I hope you can do this by the methods you suggest
                              Kendaro: second (only if we will need money) we can think to sell things in the game. But it\'s important to
                              understand that those thing will give NO advantages in games terms.
                              Kendaro: this means that you can have a gold sword with gems in it (but will do same damage.)
                              Kendaro: or you can buy a larger house, etcc.... but nothing that can give advantages in combat/rules/etc.
                              I don\'t think dedidacted player will have any problems with making \'real\' money donations if things
                              turn out as good as they sound

                              xp... this consept is a bit new to me and i wondered what exactly is ment by that

                              Talad: where did the first idea of PlaneShift come from? I know there was mention of a 2D work but the
                              idea of an underground world for a MMORPG is quite unique
                              Kendaro: the idea started from MUDs, around 1990.
                              Kendaro: I was not satisfied by text MUDs and so the idea was to create a graphical MUD. This was the
                              first project: PlaneShift 2D.
                              can I ask the obvious question of any proposed timelines? - everyone will be asking you when the
                              demo is likely to be out
                              Kendaro: this had only static rendered images of the world that change everytime you move from one
                              place to another... similar to old adventure games.
                              Talad: has there been any special game that has caused any influence on the creation of this game?
                              Kendaro: then that project was stopped due to commercial problems (it was intended to be a commercial

                              Kendaro: the basic answer is to that is: all good things in games we played PLUS all wanted but missing
                              features in same games.
                              Kendaro: anyway I should say that Planescape had a little influence on us. But not Planescape the PC
                              game, the table one (AD&D expansion).

                         Will there be different languages for different races, i dont mean typing a weird language, but type regular words and other races
                         that arent your race would see the words as jibberish:
                         Example:
                         A Human says: Hello how are you?
                         A Troll reads the message and sees: Hajghu timur gastronta or something like that.

                         The only way to understand a certain language is to have a high skill in \"tongue\" This could also be used in book writing, check
                         my book writing post on the wish list board.

                         another game ive played, they were used in spell reserch.

                         well this won\'t be supported in the first demo. Later it depends on if we\'ll find volunteers, who want to translate the game into their
                         language.
                         You should also keep in mind that in the game people will speak englisch, because it\'ll be worldwide.

                         i wouldn\'t mind making up three or four sets of jibberish words for the game. but you guys would have to incorperate in as far as

                         I beleive you misunderstood the question MatzeB, this post was asking if the individual races spoke english. I will comment on
                         the post...

                         I personally think because traditional chat systems just send text without much regard for the wording or syntax, having this
                         feature would cause words that are invalid would not be translatable unless it used an encoding system that just replaced letters
                         with random letters or groups of letters. Either way, it would take alot of effort just to obscure what one species say to another. It
                         may add another realm of realism to the game but it may also cause alot of annoyance for some individuals.

                         It sounds like an interesting idea but I think it wouldnt work very well for this game. Of course we may decide to use this idea
                         later on if we feel it is suitable.

                         Also, on the note of translating the actual game it is possible the game will be released in English and German (if MatzeB would
                         translate) or any other languages members of the team can speak. At the moment translaters are not needed but if you contact
                         luca you can help translate the game to a language you can speak. We will also need to sort out a quality assurance procedure
                         to ensure the translations are of an acceptable quality.

                         Here is one by moi,

                         I sat, mediating. I had woven together some straw into a makeshift mat. I sat on the mat. Intense silence is needed for the
                         grandest power, and I was almost there. Silence. Silence. My body started to lift. Higher, inch by inch. I leviated even higher. I
                         clenched my hands. My senses were gone. The only thing I could feel is the silent yet screached pulsation of my brain and heart
                         working together as one. Peace and tranquility. I lifted. Higher and higher. I was 3 stories in the air by now. I opened my hands
                         and held them out. I spoke the words that I had been taught by my grandfather just before his death,
                         \"Ahmon-rhea-da-kata-sa-men-asta.\" A power quietly shivered in a minute light in my palms. Sweat trickled down my face as the
                         light become became brighter and brighter. I screamed the final words \"Darem-osa-da-rem-ena!\" The power engulfed my hands
                         and up my arms, down my chest and legs until I was inside the power.

                         I opened my eyes, I saw the glow of the power around me. I slowly lowered myself to the ground. I closed my eyes and then
                         started to control the energy. The power slowly worked its way into a small circle in front of my chest. In leviated for a second the
                         shot out 3 yards away from me. I moved my hands in a motion to come to me. The circle of power raced towards me and shot
                         inside my chest. I had found the ultimate power and now I could control it for it was inside me. I raised my hand, fixated the
                         power on my hand, the light slightly glimered, then it a beam shot out of my hand and blew up a nearby boulder.

                         I showed no emotion for my new found power, and lowered my hand. I opened my eyes to suddenly see some blunt object
                         swinging towards my face. It was to late to react and I was struck in the head and knocked unconscious.

                         I awoke in a dark cavern. Three sconces were on the wall almost giving off enough light to see. I was on some stone table, and
                         something was strapped around me. I concentrated for a minute and realised the power was gone, but I could slightly feel that a
                         bit of it was still left inside me. I concentrated the power, but suddenly I felt a hand on my arm. It felt furry, and claws on the
                         fingers stratched my skin.

                         I looked over and saw purple glowing eyes. They stood there, stairing deep into my eyes. My eye lids grew heavy. I quickly
                         understood that this creature was doing some sort of hypnotism. I tried to open my eyes more but it was so hard. Not knowing
                         what to do, I spit at the eyes that hovered in front of me. It hit the creature. It grunted and a bit of steam filled the air. It smelled
                         like rotten eggs. I felt the steam closer to my face, the eyes were gone but I could still smell the rotten egg smell. Then it
                         stopped.

                         I looked over at the sconces as one by one they lit up and I noticed the hovering purple eyes standing next to them. It looked
                         back at me and grunted. I saw some sort of claw reach into the flaw and it caught on fire. It slightly moved its claw and flung it at
                         me. I gasped and concentrated as hard as I could. The flame stopped in mid-air. I had control over it, so I lifted it up and threw it
                         at the creature. It hit it and apparently lit its arm-hair on fire. It screamed and flung its arm violently in attempt to extinguish the
                         fire.

                         I heard some strange noise as if stomping feet. I looked to my left and saw 5 sets of purple eyes coming into the room threw a
                         dark hallway. They grunted and pushed the other creature to the ground. I could not see what was happening but I heard the
                         creatures clawing into something, and a single creature screaming. They had killed the creature who had its arm lit on fire,
                         apparently they did not like mistakes.

                         The straps binding my legs and arms down were ripped off and two of the creatures picked me up. They hurried me off to some
                         cavern where I saw a lava flow, and a solid gold statue of some ape-like creature in front on a ledge. The lava flowed as if a
                         water-fall into some extremely deep gourge. They hurried to the edge. I saw hundreds of other eyes. Then they closed. I heard
                         some strange grunting noise and I was lifted higher. Suddenly the creatures holding me pulled me backwards. I now knew what
                         would happen. They flung me fowards into the volcanic flow.

                         I twisted in the air and grabbed on to the statue and flipped backwards back onto the ground. All the creature\'s eyes were closed
                         now except for the two that threw me. They screamed, and I also heard some wild beating noises as if slamming their fists
                         against some surface. I ran for my life and grabbed a sconce on the wall and ran down a cavern. I could here the thundering of
                         the creatures\' feet behind me.

                         I turned left, then right, and heard the sound of water. I knew the water might lead to a source outside, it was my only hope of
                         survival. I ran towards the rushing water and finally found a waterfall. I looked to my left and right and noticed three creatures.
                         Apparently it wasn\'t the light that made them invisible, they were natural shadows! The hairs grew on their bodies as some sort of
                         sense, probably for feeling. Except for their glowing eyes, all you could see was an extremely faint shadow. I ran foward but one
                         of the shadow creatures jumped in front of me. Its arm swung at me and I ducked to the floor and tried to trip it, but my leg
                         simply went threw it. Another swing smacked me in the side. Another one hit my leg. I did not know what to do. But wait, fire! It
                         hurt that other creature, it must hurt them all!

                         The sconce was on the floor so I quickly grabbed it. I swung it around in front of me. The shadow creatures backed off. I slowly
                         stepped to the edge of the waterfall. I heard a dripping, and suddenly a few drops dripped on the sconce, extinguishing it. The
                         creatures grunted again and raced towards me. I suddenly stopped, and concentrated and I leviated. I flew up into the air, but to
                         my surprise the creatures could float to. I concentrated once more and opened my palm. I focused and controlled the energy.
                         Two of the creatures charged at me. I clenched my palm, then opened it and power shot out light the two creatures on fire
                         sending them sprawling to the ground.

                         The third creature flew in front of me. It swung its arm and I dodged. But it swung too fast but my arm stopped it right in front of
                         my face. It grunted, then started to laugh. I concentrated and clenched my hand. I swiftly raised it in front of me and opened it
                         igniting the creature.

                         I looked down and saw the rest of the praying shadows. They flew towards me. I then let go and fell. I fell all the way to the
                         bottom of the waterfall. I swam under it and out into a small stream leading to a forest. I looked back and saw nothing, they were
                         finally gone.

                         Well I know I like to write stories. I don\'t know how many of you do though. So what I have thought of was to start this thread and
                         post a piece I have just finished. In this thread please feel free to post your own works. It would be nice if they had at least some
                         type of PlaneShift background to them so to not seem too off topic for these boards. Well enjoy, and I hope to see and read
                         some of your works as well. Who knows, if the team happens to like anything we have written there might be an opportunity for
                         background or setting positions. Not saying there will be but who knows.

                         Enjoy,

                         It was mid day. The crystal was shining brightly off the the water of a small river. A band of adventurers has arrived at this river
                         and stoped for a minute to inspect a strange sight. For there in the midst of the river, where the water rolled over a small ledge,
                         sat an Enkidukai. This seemed strange to the adventurers cause with the Enkidukai being partly cat like, they are not knows to
                         like the water. Matter of fact, they normally avoid water at any cost. Now here sat an Enkidukai inside a small waterfall with the
                         water pouring all around him.

                         The adventurers moved in closer to inspect this irregularity further. The Enkidukai was not moving at all. He just sat there, legs
                         crosses, arms draped to his sides, and his eyes closed tightly. He almost seemed like he was asleep. This intrigued the
                         adventurers more and more and they moved ever closer.

                         \"Come no closer.\", said the Enkidukai without opening his eyes. \"You are many. What is it you wish of here?\"

                         \"What are you are doing in the waterfall?\", the adventurers asked.

                         The Enkidukai responded still with his eyes closed tightly, \"Searching for peace of mind.\"

                         The adventurers then asked, \"Who, if we may ask, are you?\"

                         The Enkidukai rose to his feet then sprung from where he was sitting. With a large leaping flip, the Enkidukai now stood face to
                         face with the adventures. With his eyes now wide open he raises his left fist and thumps it to his chest. He then bows before
                         them and says, \"The Kendaro here, at your service.\"

                         The Enkidukai, named Kendaro, was tall and his fur was brownish in color. He was slender but one could feel the strength he
                         possessed. His eyes were brown and he glowered over each of the adventurers as though to size them up. His piercing eyes
                         made the adventurers feel slightly uneasy. Kendaro, feeling this uneasiness, then snickered softly and with a crooked sneer
                         spoke again, \"The Kendaro will show you to a place where you can rest, get food, and get drink. You look like very tired
                         adventurers to the Kendaro. The Kendaro shall help you gain your strength back.\"

                         With that he turned sideways to bid the adventurers to follow. The adventurers looked puzzled but decided to follow Kendaro.
                         After all if this were a trap, they were many and he was just but one Enkidukai.

                         Kendaro lead them to a small hut like structure. Inside the adventurers found the hut to be quite comfortable though it lacked any
                         of the finer things they were used to. In the left corner was a rolled up straw mat. It must have been Kendaro\'s bed. To the center
                         of the hut was a small wooden table where a picture of water sat next to several wooden goblets. Around the table were several
                         wooden chairs and to the surprise of the adventurers, there was exactly the same amount of chairs as them. Over in the right
                         corner was a fire pit. The pit had a large pipe about two foot above it that then lead up and out of the roof. On this fire were several
                         fish being smoked. Again there was the exact same number of smoking fish as there were adventurers.

                         The adventures, feeling real uneasy about this situation, start mumbling between each other. Kendaro then spoke to ease the
                         adventurers, \"Fear not friends. The Kendaro has sensed you coming and prepared for you well. Eat, drink, and be the Kendaro\'s
                         guests while you regain your strength. When done, the Kendaro shall be outside to guide you back to your adventure.\"

                         Now the adventurers were feeling slightly better but all types of exadjurations began to fly as they ate the fish cautiously. \"He
                         must be some type of wizard.\" one of them said. \"Maybe a great shaman.\" another mentioned. \"I bet he has some type of mind
                         reading ability.\" was said by yet another. \"He is outside, lets see what he is up to.\" said the leader of the group.

                         A few of the adventurers went over to one of the small circular windows and spied out to see what Kendaro was doing. What they
                         saw was unusual and quite strange to them. He was out there by himself and doing what they thought to be a dance. The
                         movements were as if he was fighting someone in slow motion. The transition from one move to another was done slow but the
                         initial move itself was fast and showed great power. The onlookers were both amazed and confused at what they were seeing.

                         After watching him for a while, the adventurers all came out and watched Kendaro. Soon Kendaro stopped moving and stood
                         silently in the field. The adventurers advanced, with puzzled looks, and asked, \"What is it that you were just doing? We thought it
                         was some type of dance but it wasn\'t like anything we have ever seen.\"

                         \"The Kendaro was performing his kata.\", he responded. \"It is how the Kendaro keeps his fighting skills and body sharp.\"

                         \"KATA? What is this kata you speak of?\", they asked.

                         Kendaro responded, \"Kata is form made up of many fighting moves all put together to make it easy for the Kendaro to remember
                         them.\" He then continued, \"Was the Kendaro\'s cooking to your liking? If so and you are all well rested now, the Kendaro will lead
                         you back to your adventure.\"

                         The adventurers all nodded their heads in satisfaction and gathered their things to return to their journey. Kendaro then lead them
                         back to the river where they first found him. He pointed in the direction that would be the safest for them to travel. As they walked
                         off, Kendaro shouted to them, \"If ever you find yourselves in need of a friend. Don\'t hesitate to call on the Kendaro. The Kendaro
                         will always be willing to help.\"

Wish list / Marriage System?

                         It\'ll b great if some sort of marriage system is implemented in this game, like when 2 friends meet and decide to marry
                         in-game,(just for fun)then they could invite ppl to the wedding, exchange rings and promises, etc... and if they have another friend
                         who\'s just started playing, he/she could start out as their child and live with them. I remember a game in which 2 gamemasters
                         married, it was THE grandest event in the game, lots of ppl attended the wedding and took screenies.(Not to mention the floor
                         was decorated with money) Think of the possibilties!

                         in other games i have played, they had such a system. well it realy wasnt a system more than just that you had to petition a GM
                         to get married and to set a date where he/she could do the service and the area used. this would allow the GMs to set up the
                         KOS rules so all people could attend.

                         (KOS for those that might not know is kill on sight. most guards and NPCs didnt like those of different races and didnt like them
                         in thier area so they would kill them the GMs would wave this rule for weddings and other events.)

                         the weddings were mainly just the bride, groom, the GM, and all their friends. the casters would put on light shows with their
                         spell effects and the fighters just handed out the boos :). they wer fun to attend and realy added to the RP experience. pluss after
                         the service the GM would grant the couple a matching surname.

                         Marriage system would be nice. Some one to keep you company. A very good example comes from a poor designed game
                         called \'RuneScape\' you might have heard about it. Well they didnt have a marriage system, but the people of RuneScape
                         pretended. Well the first couple got along fine until more and more of these marriages came along. Well it wasnt to far until this
                         thing got out of hand. Instead of pretending they would take it a step farther, They Could have Cyber Sex (NASTY STUFF :( )
                         they would marry the person and just steal his stuff. And they would that advantage of the person.

                         But the point is not to let this or anything bad from RuneScape happen to this game. A system would be great. I say \"Lets give it
                         a try.\"

                         And another thing, Will each race have 2 diffrent sexes? Like Male, Female, Or will we have to choose a race that looks like a

                         Maybe we could have a movement like kneeling down on one knee, so a guy can actually propose to a gal.

                         talking about kneeling.... a game i used to play took many resorces and put them into animated emotes. say for example you
                         wanted to bow, you would type \"/bow\" and your character would drop to one knee and bow. text would then say, \"Kendaro bows
                         in humility and respect.\" and if you happened to have to have someone targeted it would mention so. as in \"Kendaro bows before
                         Kada-El in humility and respect.\" there were many many more animated emotes like dance, hug, eye, whistle, laugh, clap,
                         agree, and so on. gave a nice new interaction from player to player.

                         yea, im a big open source enthuasist(sp?), but i think that a marriage system would be pretty awesome, and i think those
                         interactions like kendaro was talking about are a good idea to put in.

                         A marriage system would be a great idea. a way to do it would be maybe easy... first just as an in game type thing make a
                         chapple type building in the main city (there can be more than one) with a priest NPC. to personalize the chapple you would have
                         to write all guest names on a list and anyone not on the list would not be aloud in , or you could make it an open weding. then
                         both you and your partner could do somthing like stand on a certain space or both give a command. then the priest could go
                         through all his babbl...i do..i do ... done. (maybe even an option to give your own vows.)

                         Marriage, Runescape, saw the first 2 couples married, when Everdred was able to create Diamond Rings, on that day, I got
                         married to Villagesmith, and went down in rs history as being the first 2 people married in the game, then followed by Lightning
                         and Stud.

                         Marriage would have been better in rs if you could recognize you was married like PS will.

                         Good to see another eq player kendaro. After playing eq, the question of surnames came up with me for this game. Are we going
                         to have last names? That is what really made it work in everquest (eq) is that you both had your last name changed to the same
                         thing. Only problem with marriage system is every online girl I talk to turns out to be a man! and half the time it\'s the same man
                         playing different chars! boy was I sick when I found that out, all 3 times

                         Don\'t hold your breath, The P.S. Team is short on developers, which obviously slows the process.

                         When will the demo be released?
                         The Demo is expected to be out by the end of this year (2001)

                         How many races will there be in Planeshift?
                         Twelve altogether.
                         Humans: Xacha & Ylians
                         Dwarves: Clan Stanebreaker & Clan Hammerwielder
                         Elves: Nolthril & Dermorians
                         Other: Kran, Klyros, Enkidukai, Lemurs, Diaboli, & Ynnwns

                         Will there be guilds in Planeshift?
                         Most Definitely, there will also be special powers for associated with each guild.

                         Will there be Player vs. Player combat in Planeshift?
                         Yes. There will be PvP in stadiums and/or arenas.

                         What will you do to prevent unwanted PvP?
                         There will guards inside the city to prevent player killing and punish assassins.

                         How large will the Planeshift world be?
                         There are eight underground levels to explore.

                         On a scale of 1-10, 10 being Runescape, what is Planeshift?

                         Skills will include; One or Two Handed weapons, Magic, Stealth, Locksmithing, Martial Arts, and more...

                         Different races will have different changeables.

                         Where can I download the game?
                         You can\'t download it yet. The demo must be made(released at end of \'01, early \'02).

                         Yeah.

                         What are guilds?
                         Guilds are pretty much another name for clans.

                         What will be the benefit of owning/being in a guild?
                         The guild will be able to by a large building as a heaquarters. You can have alliances with other guilds and become a \"Alliance of
                         the Rights\" or form together to attempt and overthrow all dinasties and take evil rule for yourself. You can also band together
                         against others.

                         How can I become a member of the team?
                         First go to the HELP US! section. Find a certain \"profession\" that you would most like to and be able to help out in. E-mail the
                         director of your \"profession\" to see if you can join. You will get more information from the person you e-mail after that.

                         Who is the overall \"master\" of PlaneShift?
                         Luca Pancallo.

                         What does a W.T.B. Member mean?
                         It means Want To Be Member. They are wanted by the PS team and are thinking about them to be in. They are not OFFICIAL
                         members but are members at that.

                         If you are a PR Member, what are you?
                         A Public Relations Member means that you advertise the site and other things about PlaneShift and you get information out and
                         get everyone excitied about PlaneShift.

                         The Dwarf picture on the \"Pics\" page looks really dinky. Is that what the game will look like?
                         Yes and no. Yes because it is the basic concept of the views, menus and so on. No because let me remind you that picture has
                         been there a long time. So long that they could have developed the \"skeleton\" of the dwarf and other characters even more. This
                         company has been at work for 10 years so you never know how old some of these things might be.

                         Must our name be \"role-playing style\"?

                         The 12 specified are all of the races.

                         We do encourage the Role-Playing aspect though. I think it would be prefered if the names were for the purpose of roleplaying.

                         I think if there are no names like \"Hugh Jass\" or \"1m /-\\ []D [] []\\/[] []D\" then it basically has to be role-playing.

                         Even a simple name like Jason or Brian would be fine I think.

                         There are no boundries, or consequences officially released yet but I highly doubt that there won\'t be at least one thing to stop
                         the name calling etc.

                         Sorry but all there is to say is tought luck. The point of this game is not dying, but it can happen. Just remember, in the long run
                         experiance is much more valuable than items because with more experiance, the easier the items will be to regain.

                         I suggest you e-mail one of the people specified in the Help Us! section of this site that have to do with graphics. Or make a

                         It seems that you do not want to look at other posts for your answer so I thought I would say anyway.

                         The game is very early in development and you can only play it or try it out if you are a member of the team.

                         A minimum requirement hasnt been established as of yet, but the demo would probably run on most modern computers with a
                         good 3D accelerator card. The team are working hard to keep the game playable on low-end machines.

                         If your computer isnt fast enough it would simply run very slowly, or complain with error messages. The demo should work on
                         Windows 95/98/ME/2K/XP and Linux and should support Direct3D and OpenGL as well as its own assembly and mmx optimised
                         software renderer for old machines that dont have 3d acceleration.

                         If you would tell us the specifications for your hardware, ie, processor speed, memory and video card then I would be happy to
                         give you an estimation of how well the game should run on it.

                         thieving is something that doesnt work player on player. thieving does work on mobs and NPCs. what i mean by doesnt work on
                         PvP is that if one player steals from another player, that sets up a whole new set of PvP rules that effect combat. this includes
                         things like PvP loot rules and would also effect rules of if you steal would it be looked at as an attack by city guards. it would be
                         more trouble than anything to try and work it into a system for PvP.

                         if they found some way around the problems then i would love to hear them. i have yet to see thieving PvP work without a mess
                         of trouble.

                         this is a coppy of what i wrote in another thread. since it was a bit off the topic of what the thread began as, i thought i should
                         repost it in a new thread.

                         i just want to point oput that i cant stand any PKing what so ever. it leads to griefers very fast. sooner or later some one will find
                         an easy target and then make that person\'s life misserable. constantly killing them over and over and taking their items. there is
                         no way to regulate PKing. people find their way around it. also whats to stop groups of people from jumping a single person. sure
                         a lvl 50 cant attack a lvl 5 but 5 lvl 5s can jump a single lvl 5. sure thats life but this is just a game. people play to have fun. not to
                         be griefed over and over.

                         i love the duel system and the arena system but all out anyone can kill anyone at any time, just stinks. how would a new person
                         get anywhere in this game. they dont know anyone yet and want to explore a bit then all of a suddon a PKer comes along seeing
                         an easy target. boom the new player is dead and discoraged(sp) and ends up quiting.

                         look how succesfull EQ has been. if it wasnt for their horrid customer suport, they would be still on top of the MMORPGS. they
                         had a server for PKers, team PKers, deity PKers and so on. those were the most unpopulated servers in the game. the most
                         popular were the ones non PK.

                         all i have to say is weather a game is PK or not determins if ill play it or not. if i cant go out and explore the lands without having
                         to worry about both NPCs and PKers then i dont find much interest in it. from all the games i have played, PKing only ment one
                         thing...grief. for some reason there are people out there that cant find fun in a game unless they are causeing another player
                         harm. killing them out of the blue then taking their gear. that is harm. its bad enough that mobs will attack you for no reason
                         other than to kill you but then to have PKers after you just so they can take your things.....thats just too much.

                         people then want to say \"well then its not very realistic if there isnt a PK system\". well is it realistic to be killed then respawn
                         somewhere else? is it realistic to be a huminoid rock person that can use magic? is it realistic to be doing anything in a virtual
                         world. no its not realistic. thats why people play RPGs. to get away from what is realistic.

                         ok so i think ill end this here with a question to the crew making this game. with the talks of duels and arenas, i was under the
                         impression that PKing wasnt going to happen unless agreed apon by the two in the fight, or those that enter the arena. now from
                         what has been said in the PK xp thread, i am wondering. is there a chance that any player at anytime, away from a town, can
                         attack any other player, within their lvl, and kill them? if so then i would have to rethink this game and probly wouldnt play it.
                         though it looks great and sounds great, PKing is one thing i have found in many games that just completely trashes it and
                         makes it another Quake. so is there PKing outside of duels and the arena areas?

                         lame carebear game? so is that why ever quest has gotten best game of the year a couple years in a row, cause it was lame?
                         look at other games where PKing was part of the game. AO for example, went to the crapper in a short amount of time due to the
                         rampant PKing. its funy when i see people saying that PKing has to be a part of the game or no one will play it. then go look at
                         the online status of non PKing vs PKing games and the non PKing games have three to four times the population. look at Ever
                         Quest for example once again. three or more PKing servers with only about 6 to 7 houndrred players on any of them at peak
                         time. then go to the near 20+ non PK servers and see 15k+ people on each of them. PKers may be the loudest voice you hear in
                         game making but its the non PKers that make up the majority.

                         oops my numbers were off badly on the non PK servers. it was 1500 to 2500 on the nonPK servers at peak time. not combined
                         mind you but each of them had 15 to 25 hundred players while the 3 or 4 PK servers only had 4 to 7 hundred each.

                         See my post in the other PK topic about hiring/requesting gurads and travelling around in groups, and also having it being much
                         harder to pk someone than in other games, meaning you have a chance and pking isn\'t as lucrative as in other games...

                         areas where u cant pk. like a forbidden forest or a pirate sea or some islands that have only pk on them.

                         Some areas will be protected by guards... and i think my suggestion about travelling guards and making it harder to take down a
                         person through pking would mean it would be discouraged...

                         I hate it where you hafta walk half the world to get to this \"zone\" so you can kill this one person who ends up runnning away.

                         I say there should be guards in towns, NPC guards. After you click or whatever to fight the guard automatically comes in
                         between the two fighters and say \"Stop this immediatly or you shall go to prison!\" That way there is no fighting in towns. But
                         there is fighting away from towns because guards are not there.
