As I recall, there are a couple of interesting threads on the forums about animal raising/breeding.

Though why you would put all the time and effort into raising animals just to let them go is beyond me  ?(

to breed a super-race of gerbles, at which point you will call upon to conquer... *cough*

you get the picture... breed animals, then release, they go wild, go crzy, kick PC\'s and NPC\'s butts, etc:P
Precious and beutiful, it is happy. The only time when it is not is when it is in a shape of a tear.

lol  :D

Except for the fact that:

1) No one would know that it was you who was responsible for creating them, so you\'d have to run around telling everyone that it was you
2) They would kill all the noobs and get stronger
3) They would kill all the uber-1337\'s and get even more stronger
4) They would destroy the entire city, including your ranch
5) Everyone would blame it on you because you went around yelling at everyone how great your achievement was
6) You\'d never be able to do it again because people would keep stealing your animals and/or banish you to the far corner of Ylakium

But other than that, sounds like a good plan  :D

Pets are a great idea, maybe not yet for CB though.

There is a skilled animal trainer. So I guess you can train animals and call them pets if you want. Not that I would call a gigantic beast a pet, but that entiraly up to you. But if it will come, than it will probably come after a long time, because I think the dev\'s will focus on more important features (like combat).

Sounds like Ragnarok Online to me. \'Pets\' like cats and dogs, I don\'t think is such a good idea at the moment. Pets like horses and giant birds: it\'s gonna be put in the game. (aka the animal trainer skill)

And that\'s such a bad thing because...?

Anyway, it is a bit stupid to build up a creature (which I imagine would take quite a bit of time and resources) just to eventually let it go.  Unless of course there was a point to it, such as a quest that involves building a nature reserve for a particular endangered species of animal.  You\'d have to take the animals from their dangerous home to a new safe location, then ensure their safety while they consturct a nest and a new habitat.  Although, that seems a bit tedious to me.

Programming something like breeding and crossing races is VERY complex mather, and it would take way to much time to implement.

Maybe something like pets and familiars in NWN could be done.
Charm an animal/NPC to drag along.
Buy/rent a pet/merc.
Call/summon a familiar/servant, a druid mght call upon an animal to aid him o r a necromancer might summon an imp.

Very hard stuff to balance too tough.

I\'m all for taming an animal and having it follow you around! I think that it should also gain experience by helping you fight but it shouldn\'t be able to take damage!
