Quests timeout
« on: October 23, 2007, 02:06:56 pm »
What's the reason for increasing timeout, when NPCs are able to give a quest?
From one side, it's a little logic, but from other side, the first two letters from MMORPG is becoming void...
As long as we have most quest one-timed, we dont think there is much need to have this timeout so long, or maybe not at all.

It's mostly about realism. some of the simple quests have very short timeouts... for example, Harnquist could very well get hungry very quickly again after eating - after all, working at a forge is hard work.

however some quests fall more under the "Story-Line" category, and don't necessarily make sense if they get offered to 2, 3, or 8 people within a very short time. You wouldn't for example, if hypothetically, Jirosh had a special order for Jayose, that is going to be a rarer event, and you wouldn't have 2, 3, or 8 people carrying the same special order at the same time.

sometimes it's also that we don't want players to be mobbing an NPC...  There are many factors that go into determining the quest lockout time, and everybody that edits a quest before it goes in-game also double checks the lockout times to make sure that they make sense.

I hope this puts the quest-lockout timer into a bit better perspective
