PvP,PK and Thieving / Re: Combat realism
« on: June 24, 2008, 12:36:48 pm »
so basically, an Archmage is supposed to die because he dueled a fighter?  Anyone remember Merlin, or gandalf, or Raislin for that matter.  Powerful mages are supposed to be able to turn any onery dwarf into a crispy critter in moments.  No spell i know of can kill in a single blow either.  Kinda makes me think of all the work Metallurgists went to to be able to smelt plat, only to have the lions share go to the miners.  SO, a fighter can kill one in a single second, maybe 2, and what, a mage can't be allowed to do the same, in twice the time?  Factor in the cost of becoming said 'uber' mage, theres only like about 15 players that high imo.  Could be wrong, there could be more.  As for the ways being similar, lol, not even close, Brown Way's flying stones is about 4 times as strong as max DW Taste of Death, while CW is twice as stong at least as DW.  While it is all imblalanced, i don't see how reducing it's effectiveness would make it a better experience for PS players, since many wish to be mages, and well, what you sujest seems to give the advantage to fighters, which, sorry to say, just swing bits of metal at a beast, while being a mage takes true studies :P

I think actually doubling the max value for magic would make it more balanced, make it take much longer to gain high ranks, since a mage, basically studies his whole life if he/she's anything serious about it, while making the combat skills slightly faster in gain, since it's pretty much all practice, with theory reserved for tactics mostly.

That's my two trias on this.

If I recall, there was a bit of Dark and evil seeming magics involved, that fog was thick on purpose, for just the reason you mentioned, i bet the wizards didn't want the Dark Necromancers loose in Yliakum.

General Discussion / Re: Age distribution of PS players

I'm 16, with 14 years of experience.

I'm lazy, I also ignore the error msgs, as i am mezmerized by all the swinging pickaxes...

6
I 'might' be wrong, but as for anti-magic, i can buy up training, i sometiems see Myysst resisting magic in system tab, but no effect on the green bar, as far as I can tell, since i don't aways resist magic.  So I guess, it doesn't fit in the 'working' skills section, unless someone can confirm, as in actually gaining practice points, or a rank even...

7
I'm lazy, so i like not having to think about what i'm digging, so my short-cut just digs for everything

here's a list

Diamond
Emerald
Ruby
Platinum
Lumium
Gold
Silver
Iron
Copper
Tin
Coal

and maybe one or two i forgot, heh.

Hope this makes mining easier for you, with a shortcut set up with all diggable items, you don,t even have to ask which ore is there.

General Discussion / Re: Black Market Idea
« on: May 18, 2008, 05:42:10 pm »
As for a place many wouldn't venture into to deal in black market items, i suppose the Temple of Black Flame could be a good choice, limited access, which i doubt any respectable entity in Yliakum would stoop to gaining access to.

As for the items, theft and whatnot, of course it'll have to be RP'ed, though i can think of a few crafters who'd be willing to part with some items for the sake of RP'ing some form of crime.  Having the Imperials as the 'good' side is also a nice idea, at least someone stepped up with an offer.

Also, as a black market needs illicit goods, and this is a RP game, we could use IG items, and RP them as narcotics, just think of how everyone RP's Nightmushrooms...make gathering and selling them illegal RP'ly, sell to those who engage in this idea of a black market, RP being 'under the influence' around other players, many will join in if they have the right 'shroom.

As for theft, and being caught, and punishment, as nothing is implemented in game, it would also fall as RP, and thus be dependent on the actual agreement of all parties involved, though, remeber, theft IS a crime, and the selling thereof of stolen items also a crime.

How hard could it be to get a GM involved *if* one is caught, brought to a player *good* court, and sentenced to imprisonment, there is a fine jail in Laanx Dungeons where I used to RP being imprissoned when we could, erm, get in on our own.  It's just a teleport away for a GM, and after a per-arranged number of hours/days depending on crime, he'd be freed ( use /die to not bug GM's too much :P)

I think tis a grand idea, that needs work, but mostly just cooperation within the player base.

My two trias...

Nuff said.

Complaint Department / Re: Item Stack Averaging

They still auto-stack also if you use shortcuts to dequip, i've had it happen to my 300Q's when i had some normal looted daggers, used my dequip shortcut, and voila, no more 300Q's, and plus, they had lost the crafters 'tag'.  This has also happend to two other guild members.

Server Status / Re: Server down for maintenance - April 27, 2008

* Myysst figures it to be a typo, not 6-8 hours, but less than 68 hours lol...or, even more precisely, soon(tm)

*Myysst, having input his 2 tria, leaves to read a book, or failing that, watch something entertaining...

Seeing as PlaneShift is more RP oriented than anythinig else, and I don't see how a wipe can even affect my RP, and well, my Chr is more about who he is, than any numbers attached.  Didn't mind all the grinding the first tiem, don't see why it's such a hassle, save for those who attach importance to numbers.  The RP'ers will still RP, and the PL'ers will still grind away, and i'll still do both, even after the wipe.  A wipe is a good thing, means enough work has been done to need a clean slate, means many new things to discover, and many new skills/quests/items/spells etc. the list is long.

Not too say I don't understand the long hours it takes to max a skill, having maxed a few myself, to the detriment of my mouse ( anyone say 'Buy Rank' in the new version? ), it's just that it's not all that big a deal IMO...I mean last time I played, Myysst was maxed everything, then I show up two years down the road, and he's like semi-noobish, which made sense in a way, he had ben awol for 2 years, prolly in DR trying to free his brothers.  I'll be ticked like the next player when the wipe happens, all that work gone to hydlaa's sewers, then i'll get over it, and then i'll start PL'ing a bit, then i'll be happy again, plus all the new things, nah, i'll get over it fast indeed.

Basically, I say wipe when and if necessary, and don't listen to much to our griping, we just get attached to our chr's and feel for them when they have to start over.  Myysst has been through 2 wipes, partial yeah, but it did make me a lot poorer, though, it also gave me a reason to go out, and kill things, and meet new players, make new friends etc...was all for the good in the end.

Besides, i'd have too many tria to know what to do with if it hadn't been wiped, I had way too many from too long ago, those high slash weapons sold for a kings ransom, and i profited all too well from them...heh.

I guess in SB, i'll continue crafting, seems to make quite a bit of tria, and I like the system, hope you didn't change it too much, never seen one like it in all the RPG's/MMORPG's i've played, had me hooked for the last three days of CB even...which is a good thing :P

Nuff said

PS -- I usually only wipe if and when necessary :P

General Discussion / Thank you for the hard work Dev's
« on: March 01, 2008, 09:13:38 am »
Well, I thought i'd do something different, heh!

Instead of griping that the server is down folks, I say, let us thank all the people that work hard hours after long days at work/with family/life in general, who almost always have a few hours left at the end of the day to slave over endless code.

Thank you to all those who scry endlessly, looking for those compile errors, runtime errors, and the worst (but funnest imo) the logical errors.

Thank you too all those who's hard work, has created a lovely world, where our imaginations can be let loose, where friendships and enemities can be forged, and where we, can add our thread to the tapestry that is PlaneShift.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!  I appreciate having somewhere to go when life just gets too..realistic, and you continue to provide, in spite of all the harping you get, whinning and PvP'er (go play shadowbane) wishes.

Heck, I even got some work done on my Guild Website...Bwahahahahahahaaaa...Steel Blue will be the Third version with Myysst, lucky yous!
