Poetry, Comedy, and other. / A Bard's Tale - Multiplayer Thread RPG
« on: December 12, 2004, 04:02:05 pm »
Hello, folks. This is a little MTR as I call it, (Multiplayer Thread RPG) that I wrote. Sign up your chracters here, and you will be able to participate in the story.

               A Bard\'s Tale
                                       -------------

                                         Overview

A worn Bard limps into a bar in Hydlaa one day, and sings a tragic song on how an evil cult kidnapped his party and
sacrificed them to their \"god\". He tells how he barely escaped them, and began the long journey back to civillization.

                                            Base
Players start in the Hydlaa plaza. They can post anything they want about themselves. Players must have atleast 1 casualty
in the whole story; preferably 2 or more. Any player can develop the story as they please, but they have to stick with the
current plot.
Players post a description of their character, and a brief history on them. Post your clothes, weapons, armor etc. Every
player must post strengths and weaknesses. Try to balance them both out, for if you make your player invincible, you will
not be allowed to continue the story.

Root plot written by: Eitri Helmsguard aka Bjorn

Single Author Stories / Bjorn's Journal
« on: December 09, 2004, 11:40:31 am »
Hello, everyone. For the next little while I will be posting a piece of writing about my planeshift character; Eitri. Feel free to comment on this writing at any time. Here\'s the first one:

              Eitri\'s Journal - Entry l: Prologue
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello there, young one. My name is Eitri. Eitri the Brave. How
Did I get such a title? Oh, why... sure, I\'ll tell you!
A beautiful dwarven woman borne me quite a while back. Fourty
four years ago, I believe. She described me as a smart boy; for a petty
dwarf, that is. My mother was widdowed seven years after my birth. I was
orphined, and stayed on a farm run by Dwarven peasants \'till I was
around sixteen.
I hated my life. So I ran away looking for \"fame and fortune\".
I feel quite silly now for doing so now. I had a burden-free life, and I
cannot say the same now. I had traveled the Norselands, the barren Egyptian
deserts, the grassy plains of Greece. I had met many challenges, all of
which I either ignored, or defeated; one of my greatest was the tyrant
king of Queslar, and his rebellious empire. I had learned much from my travels,
and I even discovered new things that modernized Yliakum greatly; namely
the Arcanioke (pronounced Ar-can-ee-oh-kee) mixture, the remedy that
cannot be penetrated by dragon-fire.
I had faced the great Ralagad, the dreaded dragon from the west.
I had come face to face with the ugly face that is danger, slugging it
aggressively with my fists. I had raided many tombs, many sanctuaries,
and obtained many treasures. But I was burdened; everything I loved was
either plagued with an incurable illness, or dragged down to the fiery
depths of hell by some evil presence. I could not do anything about this; it
was an everlasting curse; it was unbreakable.
So, I HAD obtained a great title, was feared by all, defeated
even my greatest foes, traveled Yliakum several times over and obtained
great riches, but what is all that without friends? I was forced to hate
all because if I showed even the slightest likliness in anyone, they would
face an inevitable doom.
Now run my child. Run as fast as you can, away from this place; for I
have shown affection towards you, and they will come, and drag you down where
all the rest of them rest, awaiting their doom. GO! GO! Don\'t look back!
I sit in my wooden rocking chair, gazing into nothing but an empty
black void. Fire crackling. Thunder clapping. I look down; a small hint of
rum had been spilled on my nightgown.

Poetry, Comedy, and other. / Old Dwarven Language
« on: December 07, 2004, 05:11:50 pm »
Hi. In my leisure, I have taken some time to start an \"old\" Dwarven language (before the dwarves took up english). This is just a little project I started on to see if people would catch on and start using it. I have posted a sample here:

Origin

In the olden days, when the Klyros and Lemurs hadn?t even settled Yliakum yet, and when the Azure sun glowed so bright at noon that it could blind one with sensitive eyes, the old Dwarven language was still spoken; their old tongue, now referred to as Al?Harret, was a somewhat complicated language to master. This is a record and dictionary of that old language.

Grammar

Al?Herret had (or still has) a difficult grammar system. Their pronouns tongue twisters, their adjectives philosophic.

Plurals

Plural words are ended with either an ers, er, ie, i, ter, lom, ai, or est.
Some examples: Ahganai ?Dwarves
Qertaknie ?Friends
Hwarglers ?Heroes

Pronouns

Me (I) ? Yunai
You ? Yunag
We (us) ? Yenaiest (\"est\" indicates plural)
Them ? Jemhger

Do you think this project is off to a good start? Post your comments, suggestions and criticism here.

Single Author Stories / My (Not Finished) Story
« on: November 29, 2004, 05:13:45 pm »
Hey, folks! I\'m kinda new to this forum so thought that I should start my character\'s \"History\", while I have \"nothing to do\". Here is some that I have wrote in notepad as something to get me started. Please leave your honest opinion.

PS: The spaces at the ends of the lines are there because notepad doesn\'t automatically leave spaces when you get to the edge of the text box.

\"This is my project; An ever-changing story of
the interesting life led by Eitri Helmsguard. An epic document on the
Rebel egyptians in Queslar, the dark secrets of the orcs, the conspiracy
of the Dwarven Empire, and many more interesting and historical events that
shaped the lives of many, especially Eitri. There will be more chapters
added, and an updated Epilogue. I hope you enjoy this, considering the
massive amount of work put into it for the entertainment of me and you
alike.
Some of the story will be written in 3rd person, and some will
be written in 1st person. Although this may be confusing, it will add
better effects to the story, and make it more interesting to read.
Now, enough talking and get on to the story!

\"Sit down at the campfire and tell us another story!\" Cried Yergar, a
young and peculiar human boy.
\"Why do I always have to tell the stories,\" asked Eitri- \"I\'m
growing old and my throat is getting dry!\"
Yergar led the other toddlers into a forcing chant. \"STORY!
STORY! STORY!\" They urged.
 \"Alright, alright!\" He replied.
Long long ago- fourty four years to be exact- a child was born.
Not a human, not an elf, he was a dwarf. This baby\'s name was Eitri; A
name decided by the Dwarven King before he was even born, for this
baby was of royal blood. Although not direct, for his mother was the second
cousin of the prince. The baby had amazing intelligence. By the age of three
months, he was able to express feelings by smiling or frowning when
he was happy or angry. By the age of 4, he knew basic geometry, and
was predetermined by the crown to beging being schooled in the arcane
ways at the age of seven. His parents however, never approved of this.
They were hung.
Eitri was fostered. He was placed in a home for \"gifted children\" and
was schooled earlier than suggested. He was casting basic healing spells
at the age of 12, and at the age of 16, he had mastered the art of his
choice; necromancy. Two years after, he was legally declared a man, and
decided to give up on magic and earn a living by mining ore and
smithing it; He was destined to be an Armour Smithy.

Eitri kneeled before the king and asked for his approval to leave the
town. It was declined, and stubborn Eitri was inclined to sneak out of
town.
Eitri trudged across the chilly white layer of snow on the ground, and
entered the Northern Forest - his mobility was cut short. Adding
to the great disadvantage of being two-feet tall, a large heap of dead
Black Spruces lay sprawled on the ground before him. It appeared to have a
Diameter of atleast seven-thousand meters around, so the idea of walking
around the heap was like a suicide attempt. Eitri started to climb the
dusty trunk of one of considerable size. Icy drops of persperation
dropped from the Dwarf\'s head. \"\'Tis a difficult task to complete\", he
commented. Groaning, he managed to inch his way up the trunk of the tree,
onto the top of the pile. He almost slipped on the slippery limbs of one
tree, and tumbled head over heels to the ground. \"Atleast I got over!\" He joked.

Eitri continued on his way until he stumbled upon a small village northeast
of the forest, and rested in the small empty inn found on the outskirts
of town.\"
