Wish list / Learn from Books
« on: December 28, 2004, 07:50:48 pm »
Right now, we spend PP on a trainer to train in Theoretic Knowledge. But how about learning from books? In Morrowind, if you read certain books, you gain levels in certain skills. The problem with that is that all you need to do is open the book, you don\'t actually have to read it.

I would like there to be books that will raise your Knowledge, only after reading the story. At the end, after flipping throught the pages, there would be a little quiz, just to make sure you read it and deserve the Knowledge you are about to receive. The quiz would be asimple, one or two question multiple choice. If you get the right answer, your Knowledge increases, if you get the wrong answer, you get to sit there and wish you read the book. Now, the quiz is only available the first  time you open the book, so there is no cheating.

I think this would be a pretty cool feature to be added in later releases. It promotes roleplaying, and is a nice addition to the current training system.

At the login screen, I had always been able to connect almost instantly, but the last few times I tried it, it seems like it freezes at the \"Contacting Server... Please Wait\" message. I can quit, but It won\'t connect.

Wish list / Time
« on: September 04, 2004, 08:47:07 pm »
I would like to see a whole different time system in PS, different, though parallel to ours. Something along these lines...

1) Days would be made up of 20 hours, with 100 min. in an hour. Days would begin with sunrise, instead of the middle of the night like in RL. You might say, how can time be different? Well, Yliakum is on a different planet than earth, and every planet has different lengths of days and years, based on their orbit and spin. The numbers are just easier and more metric-liike than our system of 24 hours and 60 min. It is pretty dumb don\'t you think? Also, why do days begin when it has been dark our for hours? Why don\'t days begin with sunrise?

2) The actual time in-game compared to real life tyme should be different. I think for every day IRL, there should be only, say 4 in-game days. Currently, there are probably 100. This means that nights would last for hours (RL), which would improve the roleplaying aspect. Right now, we only have to wait a few min. for the night to end.

3) Months and years should be kept syncronized with RL time to make dating things, such as the forming of a guild, easier.

Collaborative Stories / Dorian's Tale
« on: July 22, 2004, 02:59:07 pm »
Dorian was fed up with the people of the small town of Tornel. He needed action, adventure, and with a little luck, some romance. The only way he would accomplish this was by leaving everything and everyone he had ever known to set off on his journey. He had absolutely NO problem with this. He actually welcomed the chance to escape from the people of the village. There was only one person he would regret leaving, and he intended to ask this person to come with him. Dorian had already made all of his plans. The only thing left was to ask Thoran, his childhood friend, and the only person that ever took Dorian seriously.

\"Ho, Thoran!\" he shouted across the town square to his friend. Thoran looked up from a quilt he was bartering for, saw Dorian, and headed in his direction after paying for the quilt.

\"Ho, Dorian. What\'s the matter? You look anxious.\" Indeed, Dorian was very nervous about this escapade, and even more nervous about what Thoran\'s answer would be.

\"Thoran, you know that I have been planning on leaving this village since I could write. Well, I have finally go my chance. I already have everything packed and ready to go. I am missing but one thing.\"

\"And what would this thing be?\" Thoran asked.

\"A companion. Thoran, I want you to accompany me on this quest of mint? What say you? Will you join me?\"

The Hydlaa Plaza / My little accident
« on: July 19, 2004, 01:35:27 pm »
I woke up today and had to go to work after a few days of vacation. Im not yet 16, so I drive this little moped that only goes 30 mph. Anyway as I was approaching work and was about to turn into it...thats where my memory stops. I cant remember the accident or anything past that point. From what I gathered, I had my turn signal on and there was a car behind me that slowed down. But another car came and pased the first car, obviously oblivious to the fact that a moped was turning. It slammed into me broadside and sent me flying accross the pavement. After the both I and the vehical had stopped, I guess I began having seizures, my body shook uncontrolably. I was either knocked out at impact or I lost my memory during my seizure.

But anywho, the ambulence was called and my dad was called. I guess my dad arrived just as the ambulence was leaving and he had to wave it down. (note, I am unconscience this whole time). We raced to the hostpital with the sirens blazing. I started comming around in the ambulence. The dude that was with me started asking me obvious questions such as Who is the President? What day is it? Whats your Birthday? of which I could not answer any of them. I did not remember anything except that school was out and that I had to go to work :]

I slowly regained conscienceness and it turned out that I only had minor damage to my body, road rash all over my body, legs, arms, stomach, back, and shoulders. I had to further injuries, which the doctor said was surprising given the fact that I had been tossed over 10 feet and rolled for about 15. I was wearing a helmet thankfully, and it probably saved my life.

So thats my closest experience with death. I know It sounds like some little kid thing, but...helmets will save your life. Just get a full racing helmet like me and it looks cool to wear it ;)

Guilds Forum / The Mercenary Guild: Profit Through Conflict
« on: June 04, 2004, 07:25:38 pm »

?There is one certainty, and that is death?

The greatest battle a warrior must face is the battle against fear.  All who take the life of the mercenary have emerged victorious from this conflict.  When death is no longer feared, an obstacle becomes a tool.  This tool shall not be used in the name of politics, honour, justice or love.  The services of the Guild may only be
called upon in exchange for currency.  A life is worthless, until a bounty is placed upon it.  Beyond that, your motivations are not our concern.

?Death is the only law, and we are its masters?

Our world is one of chaos, not order, and strength inevitably triumphs ? the Guild is a bastion of strength and, inevitably, it shall triumph.  If you are weak, our strength may be purchased.  The guild offers a range of services, a range of prices, and a range of operatives.  The harder the job, the higher the price; the more experienced the operative you choose to employ, the more you must pay.  Espionage, guild wars, body guarding, armed escort, garrisoning ? all are within our abilities, as long as they are within your budget.  If you have the gold, we have the steel.

?We are a brotherhood of blood?

Be aware, that while the Guild is above the petty squabbles of politics, and its primary motivation is the pursuit of wealth, its members are loyally bound to each other through their knowledge of pain.  Treachery shall not be tolerated, whether between members or from outsiders.  The pride of the Guild shall at all times be maintained, and shall be mortally defended by its champions if it is challenged.  Therefore, do not doubt that to cross us is to welcome death, no matter how much you can pay.

This is a short summary of the key points about our guild:

- The Mercenary Guild is a combat guild. (combat skills Are what we pride ourselves on)

- We are open to nearly any type of character as long as they can handle themselves in a fight; this includes both competent warriors, magic-users and stealthy rouges. Essentially the Mercenary guild holds combat skills (including magic), followed by stealth as the most important attributes to becoming a good mercenary.

- Merchants will not be accepted into the guild. Other proficiencies such as healing will be accepted.

- We are neutral; in terms of world politics, the good vs. the bad, the shifting of power between guilds; none of these things concern us, and we will not involve ourselves unless paid to do so.

- We will protect our own interests. Anyone who interferes with our aims or goals will be dealt with. Put simply, someone taking potential customers is biting into potential profit.  As such competitor mercenaries/defenders are treated as enemies.

- Members will be expected to train as much as possible when there is no mission, on top of this they will be expected to role-play, remain active and finally represent the guild to the best of their abilities.

- The aim of the guild is wealth. We are a business fraternity; we seek to make the mercenary market as profitable as possible, and as consumer friendly as we can.

---------
There has been a few changes in the Mercenary Guild. We have lost our founder and Legend, Zephyrus. The Guild Hierarchy has been changed slightly, the Guild is now ruled by the Council of Champions. And the website has had some content and graphical improvements. We are accepting anyone to become an Apprentice, but you must prove yourself worthy before becoming an actual member.

Also, If you want to hire the Guild for a character portrait, signature, or whatever, please visit our forums.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Complications...
« on: May 23, 2004, 06:47:31 pm »
OK, the last week has been really...stressful and I kinda screwed up my life. I had some...school related, uh, problems and eventually got suspended. My parents are really mad at me and are restricting me from the comp, and everything electronic for that matter, until further notice. So, I am forced to leave. I don\'t know when I will be back. It could be a month, could be a year. I really don\'t know. Some of you might not take this seriously, but this really means a lot to me. I love this community, I love this game, and I don\'t know what I am going to do without it. Thank you all for the great times, and I hope I will be able to come back soon.

Devs, keep up the good work. Never stop this project. You have done a great job and I hold you all in the highest respect.

So long everyone. DepthBlade, your a great guy. Good luck to you and the Xperto. And all of my fellow Mercenaries, well, good luck to you too. Do not  shut down the guild because I leave. I will come back, someday.

Sorry... goodbye :(

Yes, I was thinking, and I still remember my very first rpg game that I played, and I think it set the stage for my love of gmaes and computors in general. I think I was about 5 years old, and we got this demo disc in the mail...some thing for CompuServe I think (Is that still around today?). Anyway it had this demo for Castle of the Winds. I had always showed an interest in computors at a very young age, in fact I screwed up a whole hard drive by messing around with files...installing things, deleting things, all with that old windows 2.whatever before Windows 95 came out. I eventually deleted almost all of the systems important files, and eventually it just...died. Anyway, Castle of the Winds was at that time the funnest thing I had ever played. (remember I was like 5-6 years old). You were this guy and you learned magic spells throughout the game. You killed monsters and they dropped items, coins, etc. Graphics were 2d, and there was almost no storyline at all, but it fits under the RPG genre. *sigh* good times :D

Anyways, what was the first RPG game you ever played? If you remember...

Wish list / Treasure Trails
« on: May 16, 2004, 02:27:28 pm »
OK, for once, runescape has a new idea that is of pretty good quality...

Quote
Today we have released treasure trails into RuneScape. Various npcs on members servers will now ocassionaly drop random clues.

Each clue points to the location of another random clue. Solve enough clues (and maybe face one or two other challenges) and you will eventually find treasure, which could be anything from food or weapons to various rare items which can only be found on treasure trails.

Stronger monsters will tend to drop harder clues which will tend to lead towards more valuable treasure. Be warned the hardest clues are very tricky indeed.

You can\'t be on more than one treasure trail at once. If you have a clue, npcs won\'t drop more clues until you solve the trail you are on, or you abandon the trail by dropping your current clue.

Treasure clue are a fairly rare drop. A similar sort of rarity to low level gems, although not necessarily on the same monsters. If you just keep playing normally you will get them as a pleasant suprise from time to time.

Good luck and happy treasure hunting!

I would love to see this idea in Planeshift, modified a little of course, but the concept is pretty cool IMHO.

Wish list / Hair Styles
« on: May 01, 2004, 08:51:03 pm »
There have been a few things said about har styles but not much, so here is my opinion.
We should have hair styling shops where we can get our hair styles changed. Just like in real life, we want to change our hair styles every now and then. Im not going to try list all my ideas of the different hair styles. :O Way too many...anyway, what do you think?

The Hydlaa Plaza / URL Picture...
« on: April 22, 2004, 07:31:52 pm »
I have a question, how do you get a picture next to the url of a site on your browser\'s adress bar? I noticed that LLw has one and was wondering if that was a special feature provided by certain host companies or some kind of html thingy or what?
