I go to the official page, download the torrent 0.6.3. Good, I am ready. Then, when I have time to play, no, I have to spend more time on some silly downloads. I am an oldtime player, I mean of physical age, so no teenager problems to stay focused. But my time is valuable. Why should I then wait for another version 0.6.4 to download directly wasting my time and your network capacity, before I get the next 0.6.5 version to do again? 0.6.7, haha!!! Why can't you, italians squeeze your buttocks a bit more and focus on basic stuff instead of arguing on some crap inbetween your ranks. I remember when it went haywire and your emotions were all over the place. I could be wrong, times could have changed, but I remember playing some 10 years ago and there were a lot of organisational problems. Haven't you really solved them now? You should be no more in your 20ties, supposedly clevered up a bit. If I am wrong, I will appologise, but someone has to explain before that.

I think this same combat lag is the same problem what I also experience with metallurgy. When I melt melted gold ores into ingots and back for some time, lag is increasing, starting at the change of item state (model) as little bit noticeable freeze moment. Whole game is frozen, including mouse cursor. With time the freeze length increases, so different freezes are just as one, starting with first changing slot ending with last. To add more info to the same, with time, my RAM usage increases, so I suspect some memory leak or some object not destroyed and staying in memory.

System is Debian Squeeze (Testing) 32bit, AMDx2 processor and graphics. The same is on another Windows XP, though cannot say anything about memory usage there.

You'r the man!!! It works now!  \\o//

In Synaptic I got two packages when searched for openal : libalut0 and libopenal1. First one removed, no dependencies affected (dont know why actually). But the libopenal1 asked me to remove two other games - warzone2100 and glest. But I dont play them anyway. I removed them along the libopenal1. Planeshift then started without sound few times. Then I did apt-get clean, wanted to reinstall libopenal1, but tried Planeshift and it had sound. Strange, but it works now with sound. Either it detected something other than openal to use instead or something.

Hmm, strange error appeared for me too:
Code: [Select]
uldics@kaste:~$ planeshift
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 731: _dl_close: Assertion `map->l_init_called' failed!
uldics@kaste:~$

This happens in first instant when game is tried to be started. Nothing appears on screen. System is Debian Squeeze (testing), on AMD processor 2.9GHz, built in AMD HD3200 graphics with proprietery accelerated drivers (2 days old latest dirver Catalyst 9.12 Release: x86 and x86_64, driver version 8.681 though catalyst says something about 2D driver version 8.68.2), RandR version 1.2, OpenGl version 3.2.9232. Yesterday I played the game, there was one update to the game. After that, it was able to start and I played it. No kernel, graphics drivers or anything with DRM or Xorg was changed on my PC since then. Compiz Fusion is working as before (just that you know, 3D is actually working).

I post it here, cause same error was in this tread. I hope this helps resolving the problem and I hope someone can help me too with this. If necessary, I can make new thread with this problem.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Campfire lag
« on: December 16, 2009, 01:01:32 pm »
Since the 0.5.0 it runs fine, except few places: up in Gugrontid city, middle of Ojaroad 1 and few others I get heavy lag. I sat distance to max and min, no diference in lagging places and normal places.

Then today I noticed it lagging also in half of Ojaveda. And I discovered it was caused by burning campfire, someone had left on ground. As soon, as I took it in my inventory, lag stopped. When I sat it down again, lag reappeared. And the lag is like few (3to5) frames per second, keypress reaction is after few seconds. And because of this lag, I cannot turn precise, keypress has to be long enough to make a turn some 30 degrees at least.

My system is Debian Squeeze (testing), kernel 2.6.30, 2GB RAM, AMD 2.9 GHz double core processor, AMD HD3200 built in graphics card with proprietary driver.

This looks like to be the solution. I removed all packages which have something with pulseaudio in their name. Except one - libpulse0. That one is kinda not removable, then it breaks and Synaptic wants to remove half of my graphical system. Now I got in game. I still have warnings and errors about 'crystalspace.level.loader' and various "could not find" this and that.

Cant start the 32bit linux client 0.5.0 on Debian Squeeze. I have proprietary 3D driver, hardware acceleration is working like a charm. Downloaded the client from some USA server via http, torrent wasn't ready today.

That would probably be best, but ruin the whole IC thing. But then again, why would you need such, as everything without [quotes] is IC and then should be understood as roleplay.

My personal opinion if we talk about rules, boundaries and interactions. It maybe sound like wishlist, but thats also why I am now in the guild we are talking about - i get as close to my wishes here as possible.

There is too much good, honourable, protective atmosfere in game. I am not against it, but if everybody is on same side - who is on the other side? If only NPCs, then it is like playing any game without internet or LAN. Weak interactions, or lets say only half of possible dimension for actions. That is why i would like to play IC on the other side. Now it is very hard to do, as it is being restricted (banned f.example) OOC-ly. If the restrictions were IC, then it would be a broader field of play for us. For example - not a GM, but Hydlaa guards (may even be GMs) comes and arrests one and he has to sit in jail for say 40 ingame hours, or his belongings are taken from him and sold on auction. Or he is attacked by Bevon, Moren or other guards when in vicinity. So, so called players-outlaws would hide from NPC guards (which for example change their stats to be just over players).

I would prefer to protect my honor not by whining to a GM (and taking his time), but by kicking the persons (how to name that part?) to the Death Realm, if he stalks me or annoys too much. Completely IC and I see nothing against rules there. Have done that actually once, when marrying thing was implemented. To the DR he went after numerous denies.

Would be great if rules were also separated in IC and OOC. Like IC - stealing, lockpicking, fighting in Hydlaa. OOC - cheating, bug abusing, being rude (but not annoying, at least to ordinary player).

Ok, the bodily transportation could be delayed for some 10-20 seconds. Or  that half an hour, hehe!!! Just joking ;) If nobody loots in that time, then all items stay on you.

As the age of players is so high (compared with other games), I say that penalty should be high, so people ARE afraid to die. The skills taken is very good idea,. I just want to add, that removed level amount should be in percent, not in amount of levels. Because to regain say 5 levels at level 80 is much harder than than at level 5. So experienced players would be more scared of death. Another gain would be not scaring away new players, as they loose not lets say 5 levels and drop the game, but they loose say 10 percent of their gained levels. 10 percent for beginner to get back is quite doable. 10 percent of experienced player takes maybe a month. How many percent would be decided by GM, so they can see what amount works best.
Another thing would be desirable - when you die, you can be looted, but just for regainable items (buyable, craftable and not quest items, at least until player count in game isnt 5K ;)   ). And be lootable by anyone in proximity, so in guild fight some items could be gotten back buy guild members. How about that?

hehe, this is quite ridiculous. but not that anyone involved in the game would be reason for that. languages have grown wrong, i should say.
The written language has moved away for being a notation or explanation of the sound, as it was in beginning. so the only way out is choosing your mothers language to be one, that does not differ in written and spelled stuff. like spanish, but definately not english. uldics (not UL like Al Gore, not DIC like dice, not uldics like how do i spell it).

ps. am i talking nonsence? no. remember the tower of babel.

I am using Debian, had this darkness issue too. Workaround for me was to make my graphics drivers rise GAMMA setting. It made my desktop a bit too dark, but now I can see Hydlaa entrance from Bronze doors road. You can probably make a very simple starting script before and after your game starts and stops to change the setting only when the game is on.

I had same problems when I installed over the old installation. Try doing a clean install. Then try also running it from console. Might be the bad permissions again.
