HISTORY

A Ylian by the name of Shaunn Sparc enters the east Hydlaa gate. His serious expression turns a bit blank. He looks to his right then his left, pulls his bags up a little farther on his back, and walks on. As he passes the stairs that go to the tavern, his face is more serious then ever. He couldn't hide it from himself any longer, when his dad died, he couldn't run the farm alone. He knew that if he didn't find something to make tria off of, he and his mom mightr be in for some serious hard times. After his brothers went to war, and never came back, things were hard, then his dad died, and 22 year old Shaunn had to find a job, something. No one had to tell him what might happen if he didn't. Not that he knew where to look, he had never been in a city. Never seen guards, or streets, or this many people in general, this would take some getting used to. He walks by the master smith, who gives him a curious look, then sits down on a bench with a few crates around it to rest. He could hear the noise from the markets around the city, and fell asleep there for who knows how long. Who knew the next few days would change his life forever....

"Wake up lad!" I awoke with a startal to find a Ylian with graying blong hair, and much ash accross his face, this must be the smith from yesterday. "Are you ok lad?" I anwsered with a yawn "I'm fine, who are you?" He had a surprised look to his face, and said "I'm Harnquist, master smith of Hydlaa, you must be new to the city?" I said "Erm, yes, I'm Shaunn" "Nice to meet cha son, what are you after?" I gave him a blank look before saying "A job, or a way to make tria, can you help me there?" He shook his head and pointed back at his furnace "Busy son, but if your after tria, and don't mind getting dirty, you might find something at the arena" I nodded and walked down old quarry road, with my hands in my pockets, and a little hope.

When I walked onto the bleachers, it was still early morning, yet there were fighters everywhere, fighting the animals, (Most of which I had never seen before). I just watched them for a minute, then called to one who had just slayed a Trepor. "Where can I learn to use a sword like that?" His response just made me leave the arena right there, I now knew, what I need to do, what I was meant to do. "Son, you don't learn how to fight, with one lesson, it takes many years, and much pain. This isn't the game you played with your friends when you were a kid, with a wooden sword where your only battle scar was a splinter. Are you willing to go through that, to learn?"

This same fighter gets a big grin to his face as he reads the flyer. He crumbles it up as he says "Guess not", and walks away.

The flyer reads

THE COLISEUM

"Come one, come all. Welcome to The Coliseum, if you are a fighter, who seeks to be part of the most well known sport in the world, the duel, then come talk to me. But heed this warning, we are not for everyone. There is allot to be gained from this one of a kind guild, and allot to lose. Come join now, and fight for your life against other fighters, for honor, for glory, for ohh yeah... TRIA! This is not like any other guild you have seen, and we don't take this lightly. If your not willing to put it all, I will find someone who is, if you show up to me with nothing but a few swords, that you don't know how to use, I'll give them away at your funeral. If your only plan, is your big ole axe. I'll fill you in on where that went wrong after you escape the death realm, this isn't a game people, this is the Colieum. Ohh, and we also seek people to join, as Match Aids, and Book Keepers, at a  shot to become an Overseer[votes on desitions, holds part of the Treasury, is a leader] so don't wait, come find Shaunn Sparc and sign up now"

[Ok kids, if you didn't already catch it, this story is meant to be ironic. Instead of training hard to become a fighter, like the arena fighter told him to do. He opened a guild for fighters to come and fight, so he could watch, was hoping you all would catch it without help, but incase not..]

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Recruiting
__________

Do you have what it takes to be a fighter? Do you have what it takes to train day after day, just for that one chance at your rival?

Well friend, this is the place for you, if you are interested in joining the Coliseum, let Joale know, and he will talk to you. We seek fighters, as well as peole who want to join as a Book Keeper, or Match Aid. The Coliseum needs your help, to bring the exitement to Hydlaa.

Information
_______________

The Coliseum is a place, where fighters come together and battle each other, for pride, for glory, for money. This is how it works, the fighters join, and try to move up the ranks (They join the guild, this is a guild for them). The income comes from the public, by betting on matches, and Coliseum vs. Public matches. Both of which are explained below. Matches are started when either both fighters agree to it, or the Overseeers and I plan it for you. Fighters can only challendge other fighters that are at thier same level, or the one direcly above them. If you win, you have 2 options, you can either let the other fighter live, and get your full pay, as well as a point. OR.. you can kill your oponent, and knock them back down to the pit dog rank. If you choose this option, you only get 1/2 of your ranks normal win pay, and don't get an advancement point. There are your options.

Ranks and payment (fighters)
___________________

In the Coliseum, there are 5 fighter ranks. You move up a rank, after you get 3 advancement points.

1.Pit dog
2.Brawler
3.Gladiator
4.Hero
5.Grand Champion (1)

Each rank has it's own payment for a win, which is as follows

1.5k
2.10k
3.15k
4.30k
5.50k

Look back to the information on how to move up ranks. Keep in mind you cannot be part of another guild, this IS A GUILD. Just better...

Betting
___________

Betting on fights will be our main source of income, this is how it will work. You don't place however much money you want on a fighter, you buy bets. each bet costs 2k, and you can buy up to 30. Once the fight is over, and the winnder has one, we will add up all the losing bets first, and multiply by 2,000. That is how much tria needs to be distributed. So we then subtract 15% for the Coliseum, and divide what is left by the number of winning bets. That is how much each winning ticket is worth. On a normal circumstance, this will be around 5,000. So if you bought 3 bets., you would get 15,000 in return. if you don't understand the system, please let me know.

Coliseum vs. Public
__________________

Coliseum vs. Public matches are simple. You will pay 20k to have a shot at one of our members, that we will provide you, if you win, you get 40k in return. You can let us know whenever you want a shot, these are sceduled on the spot, (The fighter gets his normal win pay if we wins) and anyone can watch who cares.

Ranks (members)
_______________

Match Aid- You are the minutemen of the arena, you will come into a match, and help us where we need you, be it by scanning fighters, fighter escorts, crowd control, anything of this sort.

Book Keeper- You will have to keep up with bets, take bets, work witht he tria, pay winners, take up entery fees for Coliseum vs. Public matches, anything of this sort.

Overseer- This is why you join as a match aid, or a book keeper, at this rank, you will vote on every decition we make, this includes matching up fighters, managing fighters and conduct. As well as recieving a percentage of total earnings.

I love this idea!! but as an organization... you could use forum to keep everything in control.. that way ppl dont have to "leave" their guild to be part of it

I thought about that, but there are members AND fighters, so it is a guild too. But it just seems easier to keep up with. and easier to remove losers without posting on forums, and this way, people can see hey your a gladiator, and it is kinda more organized for everyone, But I CAN understand guilds having problems with temp. leaves.

Could you add a bit to the guild's history? It would make things more clear about this guild. Also, where does the name "coliseum" come from? The Latin language and the Roman culture have never existed in Yliakum.
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

ahh, this language buisness, look, people talk English in the game, but england is un heard of, I wish you didn't make such a big deal abou tit, hardly any words in the english language are pure english, there is Latin and Roman everywhere,

Arena:[Latin harēna, arēna, sand, a sand-strewn place of combat in an amphitheater, perhaps of Etruscan origin.] (dictionary.com)

Arena is latin, and it is IG, If it is part of the English language,a nd you say it is unheard of, it makes you sound like a hypocrit when I am possitive oyu have said something with latin roots in game.

As for guild history, there is none, there isn't a long line in Joale's family that have all done this. But sure, I'll write up a bit about how he got the idea, etc.

But this is just the info, i am wanting suggestions about how it can run better, and if the betting system is reasonable, but, yes mother, I will tweak it later.

Explain to me why a Warrior such as I should leave my guild where I help people all day, and am helped all day to advance myself, to PAY YOU to fight in an Arena I already have access to anyway, and can challenge people there however much I wish.

Thats the only real thing that doesnt make sense for me.

(No, I am not even thinking of leaving Warriors.)

As far as the use of the word Colosseum/Coliseum goes, in my opinion it is fine, it's generally recognised in the English language and is a nice, classy name.

Only advice, attempt to charge the spectators, NOT the gladiators. And don't expect them to leave their guilds, as decently levelled fighters generally can achieve very high ranks in another guild, ranks that benefit them more and give better prestige than 1-5 of such a focused guild as this.

For instance, I'd rather as a levelled fighter hold a higher rank in the Warriors, where I receive assistance IG as much as I need, and benefit others, and have a good reputation for being in such a guild at such a rank, than simply be know as a rank 3 gladiator. Being in Warriors gives me access to most tournaments anyway, and that is the general way to gain prestige for fighting/duelling skill, rather than being a member of a band of gladiators who put on a show every week/month.

[Yes, this idea is coming back]

OK, it is going to be modified, but Akkaido, why do you pay to enter tournaments, the reward and the fame, same thing here, expet you no longer have to leave your guild. But you pay, and then keep earning money untill you lose.

I think The idea is not actually win a reward, but actually say "Im the best!!" in a rank competition... been over the others, not only in a single tournament where the chances are different...
Ummm.... Klyros For BBQ!!!!!
