Frank, the Civilized Trepor
« on: July 14, 2014, 10:05:59 am »
Last night I returned to Planeshift after nearly 2 years of being away, and I was met by an odd sight immediately upon my arrival into Hydlaa: A trepor warrior walking around who greeted me!

I was later told it was a bug to which I say folly! It is not a bug! It is Frank (as I was later told he is nicknamed) The Civilized Trepor. Clearly not all monsters like the life style of grind-fodder for adventurers with the high likely hood their meal will either flee or kill them.

Thus, I believe Frank has decided to no longer be a savage beast and learn of the ways of the world to become civilized and a productive member of society.

Here is my interpretation (poorly photoshopped) of what he would look like if we allowed him to be part of society

Beautiful!

Indeed, Trepors are rather civilized in general, not as hostile as they used to be under the influence of the Dark Crystal Eclipse. You will meet many more Trepors outside, greeting and acting social, and looking for resources to survive. One of them passing Hydlaa sometimes is now a common sight. And Trepors are not the only creatures you may be surprised of. You will get to learn the difference between Eagle and Serpent Gobbles around the Carp Pond near the Gugrontid passage.

This Settings tuning was possible after implementing a more complex Tribe code.

I would love for these to be made into actual NPCs with a quest chain to learn their language to then do quests for them in an attempt to get "Monster equality" and "monster rights"

I now feel horribly guilty for the number of times I have killed Frank.

Yes to the NPC idea, first because it's great, second because I could apologize to him.

I sit around and talk to gobbles, but they hide all their females!

I noticed that often while you are killing a trepor his/her buddies come up to you and... keep greeting you... In some ways it's kinda funny but this also might be a bit weird.....

They are casting an ancient Trepor Curse upon you in the hopes that the great Trepor from the depths will rise and devour you over and over again never allowing you to go without pain

Well, try that e.g. with the Trepor Queen at the Hermit Hills, below Shindrok's Crater. I believe this tribe is a little more complex, so attacking the queen should not be ignored by the rest.
