Wish list / Re: Make some objects in game environment movable
« on: March 31, 2012, 03:14:44 am »
1) idling isn't abuse.
2) mobs are static because people were getting killed in load screens. They are the reason of complains in this same forum, even though plans are to introduce tribes no one has time to work on them it seems.
3) cd in public areas allows plenty of abuse even in limited range: blockades, cages and other disruptions including exactly those pics of people flying without having the proper equipment for it.
4) movable items will get performance worse. Those items aren't real items but a bigger item which includes other objects like a crate can actually be a crate together with whole buildings. Splitting them off will degrade performance. Other problems regarding what i call "setting items" is the problem of consistency between databases.
5) climbing also creates several problems which needs to be addressed. going off map could get you stuck forever requiring a gm to come save you, and they don't really have all this time to use for such reasons, or killing yourself.

Doesn't run in Opera. Meh.
and slow as hell in firefox11. slower than any game I've played recently with 3d graphics at 1080p.

if you start crashing out of blue you should check your hardware it's probably falling or lacks proper dissipation. (excluding virus and other problems at os level)

35
there aren't proprietary drivers for intel cpu-gpu but there might be need to update the opensource ones to the latest version, also reducing the texture size is quite important.

if hydlaa is a problem your pc lacks vram (512mb is the minimum, 1gb is the minimum to not have issues) in that case lower texture size.

37
also the other games in which set they are. directx is another thing. For example amnesia or penumbra are good comparisons skyrim is not.

ehem he allready said the graphics card "gtx 480".
update the drivers, if you use windows DON'T use the drivers that comes off windows update but use the nvidia ones.
doesn't mean there is no optimus around...

it wouldn't be a load problem much. putting all in the same map will avoid load. The real problem is that portals are more heavy as you need to render the scene in the portal and put it as a texture (portal series used some tricks to reduce weight but that's a cs side work in any case).

All online games are rated with a "rating may change during online play", ps is no exception on this front and cannot be. We can only assure the content itself is PG13 but we cannot assure the interaction with players will always be so, the gm team cannot be there 24/7 looking at each player after all. I'd suggest that someone looks upon the children while online. Any automatic solution is just a false friend and any activity online could have risks. Even browsing for school topics could easily show porn ads. So essentially without stripping off the computer from being able to run anything and disabling connections to anything else than a specific server where only the people known by the children can connect it's difficult to assure a safe harbour.

Oh, weltall, do you mean that the famous "Groundhog Day" model is no longer accurate? Does that only come into play with a server rebuild or will it only happen when the db is wiped for the launch of version 1.0 someday in the future?

Does that mean that time does accumulate in game but that currently there is just no way to keep track of it?

never was accurate from the engine pov but the time could roll back in some cases

no it's not the first day, but the time from the last hour switch till the server is back up is frozen.
