macosx build wanted
« on: November 24, 2010, 12:29:40 pm »
Right now we have no one able to build a macosx client (static), so to maintain this updated we need someone to make a build.
If this won't be possible the marriage option will be denied to macosx players and less new functionalities will be available as soon as we do the next client release (which has been delayed for months for the macosx build).
If you could help on this it would be really appreciated.

I'm not sure whether or not it would be helpful to you guys, Weltall, but I'm currently in the process of (trying to) compiling a PS server and client based on the PS Compiling Guide at this thread...

https://planeshift.svn.sf.net/svnroot/planeshift/trunk/docs/compiling.html

Still working at it, and I'm not sure how up to date the guide is, but if it's any way that it could help you all, please let me know.  I'd hate to lose those functions in the future release for all us Mac-ers...

Why not just use the Windows or Linux build on OSX with a compatibility layer? Qt/GTK/WINE... lots of solutions, technically the client could be a single build for the big 3, I compile programs in Linux to use on Windows.

WINE... it's quite some overhead and still doesn't work good enough for that purpose
Qt/GTK: erm... what? you still have to build on or cross-build for the target platform...

the point is to provide a *native* client for those platforms ;)

various people are trying it right now we have one big issue: the libraries aren't linked correctly and try to get my globally installed ones in place of the ones in the package
