ss9 is out of order?
« on: June 02, 2011, 06:26:54 am »
Hi,

I used to play planeshift year ago and I wanted to try it again. I downloaded last version by direct http (nobody was seeding on torrent), run the updater and nothing happened, updater is stuck on downloading updaterinfo.xml file. I tried to download the file manually, but connection always time out.

There is only one mirror specified and his url is http://ss9.us/update/updaterinfo.xml

Something I miss?

Ok, good to know.... but I am unable to start planeshift at all. I always get stucked on connecting to server.

I am using last developer preview of os x lion, maybe it's the reason?

It might take a minute to load. As how to figure out what is going wrong I'd also have to search through this forum.. I don't use Mac. You can also try to get help on http://planeshift.it/irc.html
.....also a saddle that won't pinch the tail. One day!

I was suffering the same problem for days, I can tell you what worked for me. There is a .xml file called "updateservers.xml" in your planeshift directory which is usually C:\Program Files\Planeshift in windows. I apologize, but I'm unsure how to do this on any other OS, perhaps you can simply locate the file on your OS (which I've never heard of lol). It seems to be the file that points to the update server that Planeshift will use. It is currently set to the "ss9" server which is not functioning.

You need to open this file with notepad by right-clicking it and mousing over "Open with" then selecting "Notepad" from the list.

You will see:

<mirrors>
        <mirror id="1" name="ss9" url="http://updater.s99 etc etc (I forgot the exact URL)" />
</mirrors>

Simply delete all the information and replace it wiith this:

<mirrors>
        <mirror id="1" name="sajut" url="http://updater.sajut.de/update/" repair="true" />
</mirrors>

Then reload Planeshift and it should update for you.

CAUTION: I believe this server is temporary.

Don't forget to copy the updateservers.xml file and paste it elsewhere so that you wont have to completely reinstall to regain the previous server information. I've been able to update and enter into the game this way.

I hope this works for you.

Unfortunately, that server is down now as well. I've tried it with PlaneShift, and pointing a browser to the URL results in a 404 error.

It's not down, just the URL above is not correct. It should be:

http://updater.sajut.de/update/

The URL is not incorrect as you stated, it's just old. lol I did in fact update with that URL. It was just a couple days ago, therefore it is down/outdated, hence my concern for it being "temporary" as I stated in my original post. Your URL is the newer URL, that's all. I'm going to edit my directions for clarification, with the new URL that you've provided.

 :oops: I hereby and now formally retract this statement... http://updater.sajut.de/update/ is up and functional at the time of this post, and I updated with it yesterday.

Since updates fail to come automatically (to many at least), I'd really appreciate if PS admins would post the update server url to the forum every time it changes. Otherwise one has to dig for it asking around from those who somehow succeeded to get it automatically.

Thanks for posting update page-  ( http://updater.sajut.de/update/ ). And I have questions about that page. I've had
issues with update page in the past.  I've gone there via my PS folder before and got nothing. So this time I went to the
site listed here and saw all the zip files.

However, not being a computer techie, :-[  I don't know which zips to pick (for the 5.7 update), what to do with them,
where to put them and where to unzip them(in my PS folder or my desktop)? I'd appreciate any advice.  :)

I have Mac OS X 10.4.11.

In past, I've uninstalled and full reinstalled, or I've did an update via 'repair' in pslaunch.
I'd like to do it differently now.  If anyone answers me, thank you.

K.

You don't need to manually pick files from there. You need to edit your updateservers.xml file in your PS directory, and place that address in it.

Thank you for the reply. Sorry to ask though, since I'm not much of a techie, how do you do that edit?
Could I please get a step by step on how to do that? Thank you in advance for any help.

You open this file with a plain-text editor, or start a new file if it got lost. I don't know which plain-text editors are available on a Mac...

Read again the reply from Shock, it is already rather verbose.
