Forum and Website Discussions / Forum respect
« on: March 19, 2005, 04:58:58 pm »
I believe a good feature would be forum respect.  I saw how it works on other forums.  You can look at wc3campaigns.com  Although there they have a lot of advertising schemes and bunch of forum gold you can have.

Anyway respect could be distributed for anything by other forum members. For example, somebody does a request for the game, for a forum member, can get respect by those who requested it and anyone else for that matter.

There are people who help in Technical forums and all they can get is thanx, but respect could be given as well.  Respect would be in terms of points.  People who do model requests, skins, drawings, stories, tech help, write guides or even those who propose GOOD wishes in wish list forum could get respect points from other members.  Respect points could give forum members options to change title, Actually have an avatar if a lot of respect is distrubuted and any other cool things.  This could be good for those who actually participate in this forum.  I\'m not one of those mostly, that\'s why I speak out, knowing that I don\'t sound selfish for any personal gain.

Think about it

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Computer crashes
« on: January 27, 2005, 12:18:17 pm »
It\'s funny, I just build a new computer with gig of ram and 256 ati 9800 pro graphics card and the game with computer crashes during few minutes of planeshift.

I don\'t think something is wrong with the graphic card since I played other games and so far no problems.  I also updated both directx and ati driver.

What\'s wrong?

Maybe post your screenshots here of all visual bugs you see.

Before I gone linkdead I took a few screens of weird things I saw and some other..

Notice weirdness behind that Kran, this happens when I start walking in some places

notice same thing, kinda blends in with that smith house

these are few screens of holes in textures.. objects.. etc.

well maybe it\'s already evident to devs that this happens... but this is not as important as deadlink issue

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any left over director mx, or any version director projects... these could be presentations, games.. This doesn\'t have to be professionaly done, but not cartoons of stick figures eitehr, I have a project due tomorow :)  and I\'m screwed..  Procrastination has eaten me fully.  If you have flash,  I\'m not sure if flash can be converted into director, but if it is, it\'s all good too.  I\'m offering 20 bucks via paypal if it\'s pretty good whatever you have, this is for multimedia class, it needs to have lingo script, some multimedia...  So if anyone has or can get me something like this I\'d be in dept up to my ears. :)
pm me asap if you have something

PvP,PK and Thieving / Simple PvP solution
« on: August 02, 2004, 11:04:29 pm »
While the majority of the map is free of PvP, there is
only one area, a good sized area, that is fully PvP.
There people can go wild, kill each other, hold guild
wars, assasinations, loot each
other, etc...

This area has to attract a good portion of players though, otherwise it would be pointless.

So I think this area should give benefits to evil guilds and PKs. It is totally their turf..
Good players are attracted into this area because this
area has rare items, hidden treasures, rare or rich mining ores, quests..
But here is the good part.. Only good players are able
to fight monsters in this area to get rares, only good
players are able to mine here, etc.  The evil players
may live here, establish guilds, stalk players, but may
not do anything else.

This brings tons of opportunity to good and evil players,
to Pks and non Pks, to mercs and body guards, etc.

Let\'s say some miner wanted to go into this area to
mine some ore, he would need services of good old
mercs to go into this vile area. While the Pk guilds
try to stalk the traveling miners with Mercs by their side,
the Mercs should know this area by heart!
Mercs have to know how to hide here, where to take a
shortcut.

Ok, this area as you all understand is full of vile creatures, Pks, darkness basically, and would work
nicely with people who are against PKing(no need to go there)
It would work great with PKs.  Guilds and random stalking in the area.
It would work great for Mercs, Miners, Treasure Hunters.

Just an idea, suggestions, debates welcome

Wish list / implementing common sense
« on: April 19, 2004, 01:50:28 pm »
:D

I am big supporter of close to RL if anyone guessed.  Maybe some of my ideas sucks, sucks  big time, but hear me out once again ladies and gents.

I want to see different weapons affecting different monsters in different ways.  What does that mean?  Keep on reading.

a weapon that has a numeric attack power and affects different monsters in same ways is boring to the gamer.
Absolutely no point then to harbor more than just one weapon.  YOu can just have the \"strongest\" weapon and walk around with it like a fool :D.  That\'s wack

A sword slashes, little bit piercing.
A club is blunt power of the hit or call it \"smash\".
An axe slashes and a bit of smash.
A spear and arrow pierces.

To have more reality or common sense, monsters would have more or less protection from different weapons.
For monsters, unlike players, this protection would have to be static, since monsters do not change weapons/armor like players.  For players on the other hand, armor would determine these things.

So what\'s common sense?

A sceleton is affected much more with a powerful weapon such as club or axe than sword or spear or arrow.  Sceletons have holes in them :), the arrow/spear will just fly through, so that\'s common sense.  Of course, no need for literally have arrows fly though, but just to keep it common sense and interesting for players to figure out on their own how different creeps would react to different weapons.

Another example:
A big monster (elephant size)  would be more affected with spears or arrows because spears and arrows can reach the eyes of the monsters, hurt the monster from above and below.  Where as club would not do anything to the thick skinned monster on the bottom.

So let\'s sum things up.

Spear, arrow is useful against monsters needed to fight from distance, monster that are big in size,  monsters that are wearing light armor or no armor.

Club, axe is usefull against human size or bigger monsters.  thse weapons have biggest effect on heavy armor since they are only weapons that can smash though.

Sword would be kind of middle ground.  It\'s usefull in far more situations than either clubs/axe or spear/arrow.

So what you think?

Wish list / smithing job: the making of a sword
« on: February 21, 2004, 09:00:57 pm »
I want to spend time and explain to you my views on how swords should be made in PS.  Maybe you will find my ideas extreme, but let\'s at least find a compromise.

First, let\'s take a good old knife in real world.  What makes one knife better than another one?  It\'s durability and it\'s strenght.  All knives could be grinded to a sharp edge, but some knives last sharpened longer and are stronger against materials.  That\'s obvious.  Well, what is the process and what materials needed to make such a knife?
1.  metal
2. forging equiptment
3. making time and technique

I will not worry about the design or shape of the knife, just the process of making it.

Ok, enough with knives, let\'s go onto swords and right into the PS world.

1. Metals:
I won\'t even go into metals, since I don\'t know what metals PS will have, but note, the better the metal, the stronger the sword, that\'s obvious.  Some metals are heavier than others, the best one would be the lightest but at the same time the strongest and most durable.  Metal could be mined or sold and processed, and that\'s another detail that I will not go into

2. Forging equipment:
This could be tricky since you don\'t want to overwhelm the players, but at the same time give some challenge.   So the basic equipment needed would be.
-Forge(obviously), needed to heat the metal.
-anvil, needed to beat the metal with a hammer lol
-grinder, needed to grind the metal and give it shape
-special hammer, for beating metal(could also be lethal against someone\'s head :D

The better the equipment, the better the sword.  This equipment cost money,  it wears out, but the better it is, the longer it takes to wear out.

3. Making of the sword:
Making swords in real life takes time.  There are certain techniques that only single people in the world new and some believe that since ancient times in Japan those tecniques secrets died with the smiths.  But this cannot be that extreme in PS haha.  To simplify this I propose that to make one sword(even with same metal) better than another, time and repetitive process is needed.

-melting
-banging: compression, change shape while in melted stage
-cooling

that\'s the 3 stages that could be repeated to make a better sword

I propose that all 3 things take 2 of real time. Where melting would take 60 minutes, banging/compression would take 20 minutes, and cooling would take 40 minutes.

these 3 steps could be repeated in order to make the strongest sword.  The more times you repeat, the more damage a sword makes, the less it weights, it actually gives you faster attack since it\'s lighter.
Although there has to be a catch, since everyone could make uber swords like that.  Depending on your level of smithing you have a chance to destroy the metal by accident, so beginners would only limit themselves to one process because there\'s a great risk of loosing the metal(lol well something has to be done).  Plus there\'s a limit to how many times a process could be repeated.

The next to last step is grinding(giving shape), that also gives a change of destroying the metal, but not actually killing it, only you would have to start from beginning of 3 forging processes.

And last by not least, sharpening the knife.  Well, nothing can go wrong here I guess.  Now, you just need a handle and you all set.

Ok, let me hear some input.  Does that seem to extreme or not even close?
