Mac OSX Specific Issues / Planeshift 0.3.019 RE-released
« on: July 17, 2007, 12:50:21 pm »
There is a new torrent available.  Hopefully the problems for PowerPC macs have been fixed.  I am still looking into the cause/solution for the freezes on some intel machines.  If you already have a working version then there is no need to download the new one unless you're a cool person who wants to seed the torrent

Please post followup in the original release thread.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Planeshift 0.3.19 released!
« on: July 13, 2007, 03:46:21 am »
Planeshift 0.3.19 is now available via BitTorrent.  We have attempted to create a universal binary, so we're interested to hear if things work better on Intel macs than they used to.

Some notes:
Decals are missing in the Intel version, this means no little shadows under your character (new feature!)
Debug symbols have been removed so it might be harder to get useful information when things crash
Texture compression has been DISABLED by default because it causes crashes & corruption with some graphics hardware (Intel integrated graphics especially)  If you want to enable it (for a possible performance boost..) open up data/config/r3dopengl.cfg and change the line:
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false
to
;Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false
(note the leading semicolon)  If you get corruption or crashes, change it back.

Thanks to Trymm, Cha0s, and the Planeshift dev team for their support!  Have fun!

I'm wondering if there are any Intel Mac users out there with either experience building CS & Planeshift or with general development experience, as I'd like to be able to create intel binaries as well.  For various reasons building universal binaries on my Mac is infeasible.

Thanks,
Daniel

Mac OSX Specific Issues / PlaneShift CB v0.15b!
« on: July 12, 2006, 04:37:39 pm »
Release 0.15 'b' is now becoming available on the updater mirrors!  Run updater.app in order to get the new client!

If this fails, try the 'Java' updater, by Cha0s.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / CB 0.15 Re-release on Bittorrent
« on: July 06, 2006, 04:26:54 am »
I believe the crippling issues in the first release have been fixed.  The new torrent is available at the same place as the old one.

The release is for OS X 10.3 and 10.4, PowerPC.  I have to discontinue 10.2 support unfortunately, and I cannot yet support intel machines but if you have an iMac or a Macbook Pro you're welcome to try building it (you'll need the Apple developer tools...).

Those brave early adopters who downloaded the broken first version, I would ask you to please redownload things to avoid multi-version grief.

Thanks!
Daniel

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Crystal Blue 0.15
« on: July 05, 2006, 03:39:39 pm »
Crystal Blue version 0.15 for Mac OS X 10.3 (PowerPC) and up is available on BitTorrent!  Check the downloads on the Planeshift Homepage!

EDIT: Haha, I lie.  The download is available but PSClient will not function correctly.  I recommend holding off for a while!

Sorry, no support for 10.2 and earlier, or the Intel Macs.  Some people have successfully compiled CS & Planeshift on their intel macs.  Non-pro macbooks and intel Mac Mini's have a graphics chip that will cause trouble even if you can successfully compile everything.

2nd EDIT: Thread locked - torrent re-released, hopefully functional!

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Bad news for 10.2
« on: July 04, 2006, 04:18:07 am »
After some testing (and rebooting into 10.2 to attempt a recompile) it seems that I will have to officially shut the door on users of OS X 10.2.  Unless someone else with 10.2.8 can successfully compile Crystal Space (at which point I'd be willing to help them out) it is not practically possible for me to keep things working.

I don't like to say this, because I used 10.2 for a long time, but really, 10.3 is nicer :)

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Planeshift 0.13 released via BitTorrent
« on: March 02, 2006, 04:04:47 pm »
Hi everyone,

Currently the files in the updater are all bad, so we are trying a distribution of a complete clean install of Planeshift via Bittorrent!  Don\'t use the updater until we give the all clear.

For those of you who can\'t use bittorrent, we will hopefully have the files up on our various mirrors in the not too distant future.

http://www.planeshift.it/download.html

Thanks!  Report all mac-specific issues here. (Like things not starting up etc.)

KNOWN ISSUES
- May not start on OS 10.2 due to missing /usr/lib/libmx.dylib
- No sound
- Currently has the wrong data/zoneinfo.xml.  See Talad\'s thread in the \"In game problems\" for a zip to correct this - it should fix crashes when entering sewers.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Current 3.012 problems and suggestions.
« on: November 05, 2005, 06:19:56 pm »
For those of you experiencing \"Unexpected Quit\" problems:

Since these fixes are embedded in another thread, I thought I\'d repost them here.  Currently it seems that the updater is not grabbing files in the root directory properly.  For people who *could* run 3.011, I hope that these work.  If you *couldn\'t*, then I\'m interested in console or crash logs.
First:

Open updaterconfig.xml and change the section to:

This won\'t affect running but will take the load off laanx when we get updater mirrors working.

Secondly, open psclient.cfg and change the line:
Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Ingame = default
to:
Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Ingame = /this/art/skins/default.zip

Then try running the updater and starting psclient!

Mac OSX Specific Issues / CB v11 on Updater
« on: August 12, 2005, 06:41:10 am »
Name says it all, if you can get the PS updater to work use it or use Cha0s\'s java updater.

Should download updater.app, psclient.app and pssetup.app, in addition to any art you don\'t have.

The \"good\" vfs file is also in the updater now, which should reduce future problems.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Newish binaries
« on: May 29, 2005, 08:19:11 pm »
EDIT: Update... yes, version 10 is currently missing a plugin, without which psclient won\'t work. My bad.

For people who haven\'t followed current threads in detail, here\'s a summary up until this point (May 29):

The updater shipped with v3.009 (the full download on the website) is broken.  Client v3.009 can\'t connect to the server, because it\'s out of date.

Client and updater v3.010 are available in the \"updater repository\" (a webserver which hosts the files for the updater).  Client v.3.010 should work, as should the updater, but you can\'t get them using the updater shipped in v3.009, mostly because I hate you all and want you to suffer.

Cha0s has created a java-based updater that CAN download the files, and this is currently the best way to get them BUT...

..it won\'t launch after you download it because the permission bits are hosed.  The trick is to open a terminal window and use the \"cd\" command to get to your Planeshift folder, then execute the following commands:

chmod 755 psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient
chmod 755 updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater

Then, psclient should launch. Maybe.  EDIT: No, no it won\'t do anything other than *launch*, because I missed a camera plugin. If this all goes over your head, I hope to be able to put a working version of the updater on the website, as well as a new v10 download, but that takes a long time to compile and upload.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Moderation information
« on: May 26, 2005, 03:22:17 am »
Just a heads up - I\'m pretty heavy on the \"delete thread\" button in this forum, just in case you *swore* you saw a thread one day only to find that it\'s gone the next.  I try to make sure that relevant or useful information is not deleted or that it exists elsewhere already.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Planeshift CB V009 released!
« on: April 18, 2005, 12:59:27 pm »
Two things:
1) Ogg sound is not working.  Sorry, this includes the music.  If I can find out why it sometimes crashes, I\'ll fix it.

2) The updater still doesn\'t work reliably.  Hopefully we\'ll have this fixed by next time, but for now it only works when run from the command line.
*Don\'t* use the updater yet though, since the new client is not yet on the updater server!

So, those of you interested can go to the \"Downloads\" section of the webpage and give it a try!  Known problems are a crash on close, and some funky rendering errors in the library, tavern and sometime the sewers.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Welcome to the Mac Area
« on: February 21, 2005, 02:07:29 am »
Hi everyone, this area of the forum is for the discussion of bugs that seem peculiar to the Mac OS X port of Planeshift.

Things this forum is not for:
- Discussion of Macs in general.
- Platform comparison (except as relating to bugs which appear on one platform and not on another)
- Questions about character creation, help inside the game, guilds, etc.  There are other areas of the forum for that!

When you observe something is wrong, there are two broad categories that the problem falls into: Mac-specific and Non-Mac-Specific.  Non-mac-specific problems would be things like:
Falling through a crack in the map, quests not working, items disappearing.  If your problem is anything like these, look at the other parts of the forum to see if the problem is already being discussed.

If you experience a crash on startup which has not been covered by previous discussion, post in this forum.  Also, problems with the mac updater should probably get mentioned here, or things that work for everyone except Mac users.

In the next few days I hope to collect other information here relating to the Mac port!

Thanks,
Daniel

Mac OSX Specific Issues / A Guide to Running Planeshift on Mac OS X Replies
« on: February 06, 2005, 08:36:28 pm »
EDITED now that Cha0s\'s instructions have been updated :)

Currently the Sourceforge-hosted vfs.cfg is unavailable, should be back in a day or two.

If you have problems, DO NOT post in this thread, please post in the stickied thread at the top of the forum!

Thanks,
Daniel
