"Loading region failed" + texturing issues
« on: June 30, 2008, 06:41:24 pm »
Alright, so now that the Bronze Doors region doesn't freeze the game anymore, there's a new issue : not sure how the map is called, but that's between BD and Hydlaa, 2nd map heading to Hydlaa. When I pass the Lake of tears and reach the gate where the loading region is, a message appears "Loading region failed" and lets me no other choice that clicking "ok", which shuts the game down. Any idea of what is wrong?

Got a MacBook Pro (2 GHZ Intel Core Duo), version 10.5.4.

Oh, and there's a texturing problem on every window ingame. I'll try to take some pics when the server is up again.

edit : Here's a screenie of what my PS-Setup looks like, it's pretty much the same as what it looks ingame.

Already did that, actually. I was hoping that could help, but no.

Hmm yes. I forgot to mention it as Cha0s suggested it though. And I know it's bad but I didn't really do a large search regarding this issue, and the reason is everything worked well before the update, and so I assumed it came from the update itself. (Well another reason might be that there have been a bunch of previous texture issues in the past. But i think that's the first one for this version of Planeshift.)

For your texture problem, do the following:

1) Some graphics cards have problems with texture compression. If you experience problems loading the game disable texture compression by doing the following:
-Open the file data/config/r3dopengl.cfg in a text editor.
-Locate the following line and delete the leading semicolon:

;Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

should be:

Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

-Save the file (be sure the file is saved as text only).

That should do the trick. It helped me with the same problem

Have fun! :)

The fix that Iriss copied and pasted here worked for me too.

I think the reason why this graphical issue showed up again is because the problematic semicolon in the r3dopengl.cfg file wasn't removed before the devs put 0.4.0 and 0.4.01 out the door.  So essentially, one replaced the fixed version (post-manual-semicolon-removal) of the file with one that had a semicolon.  Thus producing the graphical problems again.

Ah, the famous semicolon thingy... Yep, I had forgotten that one. Okay, the texture issue is fixed, thanks Iriss.

Now for the other problem : any idea why the game can't load the region?

I have a similar problem with Hydlaa plaza.  I was able to run around freely between Oja and East Hydlaa but once I entered Hydlaa plaza the client crashed.  Now that my character is in Hydlaa plaza the client will crash just before the region loads. I have alts in other areas who can roam freely.

Here's the error log message:

Tue Jul  1 12:16:00 2008, <src/client/psclientdr.cpp:248 HandleStatsUpdate SEVERE>
Tue Jul  1 12:16:00 2008, Stat request failed because CelClient not ready for 17693

I've played successfully for months on 4.00 with basically the default configuration.  And have read ALL of the Mac sticky threads and have done the copy paste stuff suggested above (actually some of the performance suggestions made the shading and graphic problems much worse) but none of them address the Hydlaa plaza crash issue.

(MacBook OS 10.4.11, 2GHz, 2GB, Intel GMA 950)

Other problems encountered have been:

- there is a gap between the areas Hydlaa gate and Oja Rd1.  Oja Rd1 appears to be a meter higher and when I try to cross I fall for awhile into 'out of bounds' before I respawn somewhere on either side of the gap
- When the client crashes I am stuck 'logged in' and cannot log back in again until the server restarts (the message says wait 30 seconds - even after it's been 20 minutes)

Thanks!

Try the following:

Go into PSsetup and turn the Vertex Buffer Object "Off", and launch the game - that might work preventing you to crash as you enter the busy section of Hydlaa!  :)

Regarding the "logged" issue - there is a bug - the server does not clear you after 30 seconds, so one has to hope for a server crash or restart.
You can go into the game with an Alt and ask a GM to reset you.

Thanks Iriss! it did work to turn the Vertex Buffer Object off (whatever that is?)...

Its odd I don't see a significant difference using the other performance suggestions (the semicolon thing, the 2 lines of code you add somewhere, or adjusting the slider bars in the pssetup) Although everything looks bad with the lower graphic settings, actual performance is the same.  I wonder if this applies to all Intel Mac users running 10.4?

I am not sure if there is a difference as I did not see one either. There is sometimes sort of a, what I call "Alice in Wonderland" graphics display - basically colourful blocks instead of grass. But at least we can play on our Mac's.
If you have more questions, you can contact me in-game - my char name is Ithwaynn - see you there  :)

I hadn't run the updater yet, especially because there was trouble with the updater on macs. Now that it's fixed, I've launched it and the map loaded. Thanks for the suggestion.
