Title: is the 64bit version actually 64

Downloaded the windows x64 file.
but it wants to install into C:\Program Files (x86)\PlaneShift

The 64 bit client is indeed a 64 bit application, it won't run on a 32 bit Windows.

And you should not install PlaneShift in the usual "Program Files" location, because it is guarded by the UAC, and you would have to run the launcher "as administrator" manually when updates are due (I believe it does not yet support "self escalation").

Thank you; it was quite confusing.
I do not normally install into program files; I was just weird-ed out when it went to put its self in the 32bit folder.

Well, that is an issue to be investigated by the people who can make the installer package; and that are few. Not me, though.
