Interesting to see this back again. We will watch with baited breath.

We like the nod to past Awards with the category 'Most Dreyish'. For those wondering what that means, we have searched the forum and found this.

And this is the original Drey. http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=16623

There was a problem with overheating. One of the server's CPUs burned up. The server has been up for one hour now.

"Our world is back!" -Talad

"IT WORKS!" -fragnetics

We are pleased to say that Laanx is now up (for the time being). There may be some instability yet. Thank you for your patience and devotion to PlaneShift. We are proud to have a community full of such wonderful people. We would also like to thank Fragnetics for working hard to solve this problem. With that said...

Game on!

Collaborative Stories / Re: Etherwight Manual
« on: September 03, 2008, 09:03:26 pm »
As long as all those involved with this RP fully understand that it is outside of known Settings, does not and will never officially exist, and do not try to force the roleplay on others where it is not wanted, there should be no issue here. We encourage players to be creative in their RPs.

In our observations, there are two basic types of 'rule benders'. The first type are breakers, going against the known Settings by creating plots that are specifically against the known lore, often for their own enjoyment. They will try to bring things into the game that do not fit believably, and try to justify them in vague ways. If challenged, the response is often outrage and rebellious acts.

The other type are those who try to follow the Settings closely while stepping just outside of its bounds to create an enjoyable story for everyone involved. When challenged, they will try to adapt their plots to be more acceptable. Much of the current Settings team is comprised of this type of player, including the Settings team leader, Xillix (claims to fame: Tried to be Octarch, then ran the Laanx Temple), Under the moon (claim to fame: The Un-common Cold), and others to a lesser degree.

The Lore and Settings of the game do matter, and as long as they are respected, a little 'bending' is acceptable.

Poetry, Comedy, and other. / Re: C-Y-O: Obscure word of the week.
« on: September 02, 2008, 01:59:47 am »
By summary judgment, we finally declare Prolix the winner for his fine use of not one, but two obscure words. On to the next challenge.

Our next word shall be:
C-Y-O
(choose your own)
Since the server is still down, we will be doing things a little differently this week. The rules are simple. You choose your own obscure word, make a sentence, then challenge others to beat your writing by using your word, plus one of their own. Here are the steps.

1: Look at the previous person's new word. (this is the challenge word)
2: List your word in bold.
3: Write your sentence using their word, plus your own.
4: Wait for the next person to use the word you wrote in bold, plus their own.

The person who posts first may use any of the previous words in this thread as their challenge word.

6
By summary judgment, we declare Lolitra the winner for her near-poetic use of the word, leaving no doubt at all of the meaning.

Our next word shall be:
Gregarious/Glyptic

To make this more of a challenge, we will be using two words this week. Their dissimilar nature should prove to be somewhat difficult to conjoin in a meaningful way.

Poetry, Comedy, and other. / Guffaw: Obscure word of the week.
« on: August 14, 2008, 01:46:25 pm »
By summary judgment, we declare The Group the winner for helping each other in the usage of the word.

Our next word shall be:
Guffaw

An easy word this week, but one we have noticed some people do not know the exact meaning of. Your writing skills will come into play heavily this week. Good writing!

By summary judgment, we once again declare Lolitra the winner for actually making fremescence sound like a commonly used word while imparting the complete meaning of the word in an organic way. Prolix arrived in a close second due to his ingame usage. Had he used the word with actual players, he may have pulled ahead.

Our next word shall be:
Evanescence
We visit a word in the same family as our last word. No, not the band. This word has a tricky usage, so be cautious. You may find it useful in conjunction with our second word.

New rule: More bonus points to someone who uses two or more of these words in a coherent sentence or paragraph. In game consideration still applies.

9
By summary judgment, we declare Zorbels the winner for her excellent use of 'brumous' to induce a certain mood and giving a good feeling of what the word means.

Quote
The brumous sky shifted and lowered baleful over the sere landscape.

The old crochety wizard glared out the crumbling tower window and muttered complaint to the brumous day.

Our next word shall be:
Fremescence

A word which we are sure you will find well use for.

New rule: Anyone who uses this word in the game and In-Character then quotes it here with a few lines of conversation (for context) shall be given extra consideration in judging.

Poetry, Comedy, and other. / New Obscure word of the week: Brumous
« on: July 15, 2008, 01:03:23 pm »
By summary judgment, we declare Lolitra Purrty the winner for her eloquent use of 'plethora'.

Our next word shall be brumous, which casts itself into the very abyss of obscurity by rendering itself immune to the wiles of spellcheckers across the world.

Expand your vocabulary and shock your friends!

Greetings, players of PlaneShift and forum dwellers. We bring to you a challenge in the form of a single word. Your task is to use this word in a sentence meaningful to the In-Character world of Yliakum.  Your sentence can be about your character, NPCs, Settings Lore, locations, etc. Do not make it about OOC matters such as players, GMs, or bugs.

If you wish, you may use the word in a small paragraph to help define the word. Others should be able to gather the meaning of the word from the context of your writing. In the example of 'plethora',

"There was a plethora of dwarves." -is not a good submission.

A Klyros stumbles out of Kada's, gasping for air. He looks around and exclaims, "The tavern is filled with a plethora of dwarves! You can't spit without hitting three of them." -is a good submission.

We will assign a new word every week. Have fun and be creative.

Past words of the week:
Plethora- an extreme excess.  Winner: Lolitra Purrty
Brumous - misty. Winner: Zorbels
Fremescence- building din, often (obscurely) used in describing the murmur of a crowd. Winner: Lolitra Purrty. Honorable mention to Prolix for use of the word in the game.
Evanescence- A fading or Vanishing. Winner: A group effort this time, for helping each other in the usage of the ward. Well done.
Guffaw- A deep and sometimes riotous laugh. Winner: Sorry, Prolix, but Lolitra wins once again.
Gregarious/Glyptic- Winner.............................. Prolix.

Word of the week:
C-Y-O
(choose your own)

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: [OFFICIAL EVENT]Evildoers wanted...
« on: October 10, 2007, 10:29:27 pm »
@ Miaua. We did actually have a plan to keep the dead in the DeathRealm this time, but elected not to do it at the last minute out of consideration for those player's fun. We will not make that mistake again. We will strive from now on to keep the dead... dead longer, and out of the continued RP.

@ Duraza. Evil has not had much of a place, or a purpose in the past. That will change. There will be events that will continue to target 'dark of heart' characters, and, as you may have seen in the past few events, they will not always be set up as the losing side. Your time is coming.

[The answer to that is simple. If you play a character that shuns the laws, or is a 'bad' guy all around, you will have the note. This is based on how you play your character, not on quests. 'Good guys' will not have the note. If you show up as a good character, and other characters know, they will point you out. Be careful in your actions and choice.

*addition You must PM us to get the location. And yes, you can invite your 'dark of heart' (AKA 'evil') fellows even if they do not read this thread or PM us.]
