Guilds Forum / [GUILD] Sheeples Return
« on: November 15, 2008, 01:57:55 pm »
The Sheeples
A return to PlaneShift (with a few changes)

Just to head off this thread, many of you may know the Sheeples from the past. Many of you may have never heard of them at all. Some of you may even have BEEN Sheeples. Whichever it is, or if it is some other category, there has been changes to the guild. I suggest if you wish to interact with the sheeples that you read this thread.

Thank you. Now we may begin.

The GOAL:
As the Sheeple motto states, ā€œNot everyone can be a hero.ā€  The Sheeples are an RP semi-event organization. If you see a Sheeple, you know -something- is going to happen. The following is why:

This guild is where those who are non-heroes reside. We are the weak, the meek, and the downtrodden. Evil thrives in the presence of the Sheeples. Lawbreakers lurk in the shadows at their every step. Bullies get rich off their lunch money. If you need to play any of these parts, then the Sheeples are your target.

So, I have listed how bad characters deal with the Sheeples, so how about the good? Well, to go back the Sheeple motto, but with a twist, ā€œA hero can not be a hero with nothing to protect.ā€ We, the Sheeples, will gladly fill that role. If you hear a Sheeple screaming in the night, it is your job to come running to our aid. Please do so. We will offer what meager reward we have for our meager lives (which might be no more than a heartfelt thanks).

The HISTORY:

There is no history. The Sheeple guild is a badge that states that your character abides by Sheeple Way of Roleplay. Sheeples are regular folks who may not even know each other in-character. If you see the Sheeple guild name, assume you are seeing someone who looks either a) weak b) afraid c) someone who looks about to get into trouble (not cause it).

THE SHEEPLE WAY OF ROLEPLAY  (SWOR):

Section A:

These are guidelines in the works, and some will be changed, or added to. I ask that all players who consider themselves good RPers try to play a Sheeple at least once. Anyone who talks to me personally about their character may get bumped up to a higher 'rank' with their own 'title'. Anyone above Unknown may invite others to the guild. Yes, this is a mass-recruiting guild. But if you look at our purposeā€¦we need the numbers.

1: The Sheeple 'guild' does not exist! You will never say IC "I am a member of the Sheeple guild." This is an OOC 'sign' to tell people that you, the player, follow a certain set of roleplaying guidelines. Put this as the first thing in your description:

[OOC- I am a Sheeple, and follow the Sheeple Way of Roleplay (SWOR). More info at the end of my description.]

Put this at the end:

[[OOC- Sheeples are often the victims of Evildoing, such as robberies, muggings, kidnappings, scams, and general badguyness. If you wish to do these acts on this or other Sheeples, you MUST fully understand the SWOR and try to abide by it. If you need more info, ask about the Sheeple Way of Roleplay ingame book, or go to the forum and look at the Sheeple thread to read them in detail.]]

2: All Sheeples should have at least one ridiculous fear or special quirk. This is to add a little amusement to your character. Examples are: A fear of colorful pillows, an overly twitchy eye, speaking with a very heavy lisp or accent (or both), anything. This should be displayed in RP appropriately, and you should try to make your ridiculous fear come into roleplay every so often.

3: Don't try to become the center of an ongoing RP. As a Sheeple, it is your job to add to RPs, not take them over. You are the walk-on in the movie, the unnamed person in the book, the extra in StarTrek, the hero's plucky sidekick.

4: Attacks towards Sheeples must be well roleplayed. Duels should be accepted from all well-roleplayed attacks, as well as RP fighting. Do what your character would do. Most would run away if they can, but maybe your character has an ounce of bravery and tries to stand up to the 'bully'. It is your choice, it is your character; you decide what he or she would do. Do not accept attacks from people who do it simply because "they're evil", this is not a valid reason. No one is "just evil". If they're a psychopath, sure, that's a good reason I suppose. They could just be bored and be generally malicious and enjoy hurting people. Valid reason. Never put your character on auto-decline. It is your choice (and risk) to put them on auto-accept.

5: If you are killed by another player in a well played out RP, your Sheeple character can be gone. Not everyone makes it back from the Death Realm. Delete it and make another, if you wish. This is where making friends with heroes comes in handy. You do not HAVE to delete your character if you do not want to, and can come back to life. All Sheeples will be traumatized by dying, though, so keep that in mind. We don't like to be killed. Keep it light and amusing, though. Please don't make a drama out of it. We do not have angsty Sheeples. Keep it fun.

6: You can make your description as detailed as you want, but I recommend keeping it simple and basic so people can read it quickly and get on with the game. Don't be afraid to make it somewhat amusing. Never give your history out in your description, and delete all Character Creation items as soon as you can. If I see a Sheeple with Father: Blacksmith, I will have to beat the living snot out of you.

7: You can give points, but they donā€™t really mean anything right now. Perhaps they will later. Reasons for giving points would be for outstanding roleplaying. Reasons to detract would be 'cheating' by setting yourself up to be 'robbed' by people you know just to give them some money, or having a 'bad' description (see number 6)

8: You can invite anyone you what to be a Sheeple, but only if they ask [OOC] first, and have a new character (or a relatively unleveled alt that fits the Sheeple style). The Sheeples are a guild of alts for the most part, not main characters. Make very sure anyone who asks or who you ask has read this thread. Do not ever try to mass recruit (mass recruit uninformed people anyways).

9: You should not train fighting as a Sheeple. Your base stats should be assumed to be  your max stats. Mining, crafting, cooking and such are allowed. The exception to this rule is if you want to play a terrible fighter or 'tilt at windmills', so to speak. Then some training in combat is allowed.

10: You may leave the Sheeples any time you like.

11: Sheeples may be assigned ā€˜missionsā€™ that will put them in danger. These will be announced wherever people may be, and payments for services may be given out. (ask me about Sheeple funding*)

12: I may be the guild leader, but the guild itself is very free. I merely supervise it and its actions. Do as you wish, and invite others who you deem worthy to create a character (or use one of their spare mules) to be a Sheeple. Spend as much or little time as a Sheeple as you like. This is meant to be fun, even when running for your life.

13: I do reserve the right to boot people out of the guild who do not act appropriately, at least trying to follow these guidelines.

14: Sheeples do not know each other until they meet. They also know nothing about the guild, as it does not exist IC.

Section B:

BAD GUYS WHO WANT TO INTERACT WITH THE SHEEPLES RULES (BGWWTIWTSR)

1: These rules are for NON Sheeples. If you commit a crime on a Sheeple where it is seen, your character will be reported to the guards. If the Sheeple can identify you, your character's name will be included in the report. If you kill a Sheeple, and refuse to follow through with the RP, the Sheeple comes back to life, and your pathetic ā€˜RPā€™ never happened. Anyone who knowingly attacks, robs, or does bad things to a Sheeple, then refuses to follow through with the RP will be shunned and ignored by all other Sheeples, and your name will go on a list of the Shunned. We will not forgive or forget after a week.

2: One good way to get back in the good graces of the Sheeples after violating rule 1 will be to actually create a Sheeple character and play it well.

3: If a player wants to attack a Sheeple, and knows what the Sheeple are, he/she must first /tell the Sheeple that they agree to the rules. If someone does not know the Sheeple rules, point them to the forums, and this thread. If they refuse, and are still trying to ply their evil on you, then the Sheeple will assume the RP is harmless, and ignore the player.

Note to Sheeples: If this happens and the player refused to agree to your conditions, give a simple and NICE statement thanking the other player for any roleplaying that took part so far, but that you can not roleplay the crime as they wish to. DO NOT start an [OOC] argument. Log out if you have to.

4: Anyone who is about to attack (duel) a Sheeple must have auto-accept ON. The Sheeple may attack first to test thisā€¦ then run.

5: People may come after you for committing a crime. You may not log off to escape. You must keep auto-accept ON or accept every challenge from pursuers for a reasonable amount of time, which can be given by the Sheeple, which depends on the type of attack and the results. You will not be killed (this will be seen as another crime). There will not be a trial (if you did it, you did it. No need for the hassle of a trial.).

6: Good NPCs are safe areas. Any crimes you try to commit will be responded to with a shout for the guards and a report to the guards, regardless of whether the victim survives or not.

7: Sheeples will generally 'carry' 500 to 1000 tria with them. It is up to the Sheeple to decide how much to give you, and if they are holding back. They will never give more than 1000 (Imagine a normal person carrying $100 on them at all times).

Section C:

SHEEPLE 'QUESTS'.

Roleplayer Quests: Sheeples may on occasion put together bigger events, such as needing an escort for the shipment of large sums of money from Hydlaa to Ojaveda, and will post 'help wanted' ads. These will also be assumed to be 'evil wanted' ads as well. Rules for these type of events will be posted before the event.

Section D:

The RANKS:

The ranks are simple. There are no ranks.

1 - Unknown - These are new Sheeples that are not yet known OOC to the others. Spend your time as an unknown getting people to know you. Better yet, get them to like you. They will have more reason to protect you when Johnny Darkly comes calling. Stay in large groups of people if you can.

>>All ranks after this can invite new victims and give points. You can get a 'title' if you show exceptional roleplaying skills. I will remove titles from those who go inactive with their Sheeple (not logging in for a month without notice beforehand and intent to return).

General Discussion / CREATIVITY!
« on: November 14, 2008, 09:41:12 am »
Come now people, I have seen but a few creative characters in this game. Admittedly, many were not mine, but that gives me the modesty to honestly say, there should be more creativity within characters. You have mostly crafters, miners, heroes, non-heroes, slightly bad guys, and super villains. We need more than this, we need the common folk as well yes, but we need the freak shows, the weird people, the ones that turn heads, the one that arouse snickers. We need people with long pointy noses, hunchbacks, someone with two left feet! Someone with a severe speech impediment, someone slightly mentally disabled, someone SEVERELY mentally disabled, someone OCD, someone afraid of EVERYTHING but obviously the basic stuff needed for survival.

I'm certain you people can come up with good ones, I can, and I am certainly no more creative than a majority of the people in this community. Let's see some ideas.

EDIT: Oh, and off-topic, this is my 1000th post \o/

General Discussion / Making a Request
« on: August 10, 2008, 06:43:07 pm »
I'm not entirely sure where this should go, but here seems best.

I am making a call to the roleplayers of PlaneShift, and the GMs and Devs.

I am making a call for a player-run Hydlaa Guard to be recognized by all decent roleplayers, and calling for the blessing of the GMs and Devs in making this. If the GMs are not allowed to properly play the role of a guard, and since there are not enough GMs to really do so either, then it should fall to the hands of the players. If no one else will do so, then I will just add another character to my list and do so myself.

I would like to request, as a courtesy, that no one bash this idea without good cause, good cause being valid past experience. You don't know that it wouldn't work, and saying it wouldn't only makes you part of the reason why it wouldn't. All it takes is acceptance by the community, which would take the blessing of the GM and/or Settings and such. Something to give it solidity in the eyes of others. Obviously if it gets out of hand the blessing may be revoked and all.

Discuss why this may be a good idea, why it may be a bad idea (with each, please be sure your reasons are not just opinions, but supported by facts).

Perhaps a Vote is in order as well?

In-Game Roleplay Events / [RP] Farren Returns
« on: December 28, 2007, 04:12:35 pm »
A dermorian walks alone in the Bronze Doors region, heading towards Hydlaa. He is a peculiar one, wearing a blindfold, yet also wearing brown hardened-leather armor with olive-colored clothing and a green cloak flapping gently behind him. He has two short swords on his hips and has staff of wood chest-tall in his hand, seemingly used for support as a walking stick. His hair is jet black and slightly past shoulder length, and unruly. Those who know him would recognize him easily, some who don't personally know him might recognize him from being told of him. He has been gone for a short time, not seen by any, mysteriously disappeared one night.

He lifts his head and looks around him as he walks. Pulling his hood up over him, he walks on, as if he wasn't blind at all.

Hey guys, I won't likely be very active until after the holiday season is over. If someone could do me a favor and tell Kaerli that she is in charge of the guild until I return?

Collaborative Stories / The Lament of a Ranger
« on: September 26, 2007, 06:31:09 pm »
Farren Kutter, leader of the group known as the Rangers of Yliakum, sat at the edge of a cliff. To all but those who know him, it might seem odd for him to do so. Adjusting his blindfold slightly as it rested uncomfortably on his ears, his mind was on other things. Flashes of memories came to him such as the attack on his life by Cerientos. The Stone Labyrinths came next, his days there frightening though beneficial. The loss of many of his friends flashed through his mind, and the subversion and controlling of Zhai to pit her against the dwarves, and then himself. The battle between he and Zhai, a battle heā€™d never wanted to fight, and a battle he refused to win. Then the freeing of Zhai from that creature called Angadu. A good memory at last. The party celebrating Zhaiā€™s freedom, where he gave her the leadership of the Rangers of Yliakum. Then, more loss of friends, to the wilds or to death.

Then the coming of Zakkā€¦ Vague memories, bits and pieces of battles. He remembered losing his eye, the blade in Zakkā€™s hand slashing up across his eye, and then the memory of him throwing a knife at Zakk in anger, killing him. He remembered many battles with Zakkā€¦ He remembered other memories of that time, with no details, supposedly ones that when heā€™d died he did not wish to remember. Then came the wandering period, during which he had wandered away from the Rangers and been with other groups, including the Vespers of Laanx, which he joined for the want to help Xillix, whom heā€™d loved, or thought he did. Those days had turned him into something he didnā€™t want to be, but then the promise of battle came, and his training brought back the fire in him. No longer was he one of the Vespers, but more of a bodyguard. Still not a ranger again. He had not been one again for until some time after that.

Then came the evils of Janeousā€¦ Which were luckily ended. Afterwards came more evil, this time some sort of form changer, shape shifter. Heā€™d been trying to track it, and then Zhai came and told him sheā€™d found a trail. He followed her without hesitation, without seeing for himself this ā€˜trailā€™. She led him to the Laanx Temple dungeons, and there his folly was revealed as Zhai was not really Zhai, and was instead the very shape shifter that he had believed them to be tracking. And that was when the creature took his other eye. Then his memories went void of vision, and all he remembered were soundsā€¦ And he just stopped trying, though one more memory came to him. Hearing of Zhaiā€™s disappearance and the imposter.

The ranger came out of his flashbacks, an expression of pain visible on a face that didnā€™t seem to have ever held that expression before. No tears came from his damaged eyes, he wasnā€™t even sure it was possible for him. He heard the soft voices of nature in his mind, the thoughts of the trees and animals and other life. They said many things, some contradicting others, none giving clear direction nor any answers.

ā€œToo long have I lived this way,ā€ he said after many minutes. ā€œNever have I asked reward, never will I do so, but there must be a purpose. I have been shown none. I am done with this life. Nature will let me go, for I can hear that it doesnā€™t truly need me anymore. So few of my friends remain, so perhaps it is time for me to pass as wellā€¦ā€ Standing up slowly, Farren was balanced easily right on the edge of the cliff and says to himself, ā€œHehā€¦ I always thought Iā€™d die in a fight some day.ā€ After these words leave his mouth, he takes a step forward, dropping from the cliff.

(The End...?)

Ranger Guidelines

Nature is our ally. In nature, we hold all advantages. Alone, we can fight a small army, with nature at our backs. But also remember that as a Ranger, while we may be loners, we can also come together. And then, we are unstoppable...

Follow your morals. Everyone has them. If someone is in need, and you think you should help them, then do so. If you think something is wrong, fix it. If you think someone should die for some wrongdoing, then kill them. We are above the laws of men, if we go above them for the best.

Never betray another Ranger. We are a family, and a team. As such, we must treat each other with respect, and help each other when one of us is in need. We are a loose association of people, but we can tighten into the most elite unit of warriors if needed. Nature works by everything working together in its cycles, and we shall follow its lead, but work together as a team.

-- Farren Kutter, Master Ranger

Our Laws

Our laws are simple, yet not all will find themselves of the right mind to follow them. For our laws are these. You must swear to follow and uphold the laws of nature within the limits of its tolerance. These laws, to you, must be above the laws of any government. The laws of nature are easy to determine, just sit and watch it for a long time and you will see how it works. Things that happen outside of the norm for nature will either be accepted by nature or rejected. Generally it will deal with such things on its own, and you will likely know it if it doesn't. We must also protect nature from those who might overly harm or damage it. Most of us will also likely find ourselves protecting people from nature. And even people from other people, sadly.

Out of Character: About the Guild Organization and Purposes

Ranks

Scout
The scout is the ranger in training, a rank for new players only. Their mission is to learn about the world and explore it thoroughly. They should train their skills in the areas they find useful for their paths and serve the guild by learning all they can and doing the quests given to them by the older rangers.

Ranger
What we are. A ranger can train scouts, offering them certain guidance and sharing the secrets they have learned. They are expected to help the guild by bringing knowledge, by collecting items for our vaults and by mastering their skills as fighters or magicians. They also have the responsibility of recruiting new members. The rank of Ranger is mainly for fighter type Rangers, as those who are more heavily into magic will likely be 'Druids'.

Special/Unique Ranks
(You may acquire any of the following titles should you request it and demonstrate you can carry them out responsibly. Also note that Ranger-rank people that are mages will be known as Druids, and promotion to Mentor may be given upon request of another member or upon decision of the leader. If such a promotion was not desired, simply tell me.)

Druid
A druid is the ranger who has chosen the path of the arcane arts. They hold the same responsibilities and privileges as any other ranger but they are recognized for the time and effort invested in knowing the secrets of magic. A druid is a healer as well as protector. They have knowledge of herbalism and alchemy and can even resort to powerful spells to defeat their foes or protect their allies. There are rare druids who may actually call upon the power of nature itself. (For information on this rare type, please message me. Any members who wish to be of this type, or people outside of the guild who wish to have such a character, I will give you the rules and guidelines to RPing such a character, for it is truly purely RP)

Champion
(Null, going to be remade as something else)

Mentor
The wise and more experienced rangers who have gained thorough knowledge of our world and have performed many teaching duties for the Rangers are acknowledged as Mentors. They have the responsibility to guide other rangers and the authority to give them tasks and promote them. They are also more skilled in the abilities of Rangers.

Master Ranger (Guild Master)
He serves as leader of the rangers. He will often check on everyone's progress, or help them attain their goals, sometimes even by setting smaller ones for them. He is also the one, aside from Mentors, who teaches special Ranger skills and techniques.

Our Purpose

We offer players an angle to define their character. By becoming a member of our guild you are choosing a class: you are a fighter and an explorer. We also provide a bunch of friends with common goals, a team, people to call on for help, people to roleplay with. In addition there are some guides available on RPing a ranger, as well as guides on the special techniques for our guild as well as guidelines for ranger skills. (At the moment our website is being heavily redone, so please just PM me for the guides and such as I have them all as .docs on my computer)

***NOTICE: As a roleplay guild, you must approach me directly or through one of the Rangers through roleplaying in order to join. Rangers can be noted by a leather necklace with a wooden disc that has an engravement of two swords crossed in front of a tree. Also, I do not like divulging very much IC info on the guild such as the history, but Farren can relate it to you if he is asked and is in the mood for it. This Guild thread may be subject to change.***

[OOC] This is a plot I have developed over time, and am now going to attempt to put into effect. Joining is as simple as associating with Farren. Or even Kaerli and Atria will do. Basically, Farren has gone insane. He has a strong connection to nature, and something has gone wrong, causing nature, all of the plants and animals and other life of Yliakum, to speak to Farren, screaming, yelling, and crying at him. They are unable to give many details. He is going insane from all of the demands that were suddenly made louder in his mind, since not just this single imbalance is being screamed and yelled. This has caused intense stress along with the insanity, causing him to be irritable and overreactive. It has also caused his mind to sort of shutdown and he has formed a second personality that takes over. It is the embodiment of his insanity. This second personality also brings to life the powers that Farren has, but cannot use. 'Nature', as the personality calls itself and believes itself to be the embodiment of, has immense Druidic power, which Farren's mind always subdued and made unusable.

It is also very insane, in a calm sort of way. It doesn't know what it wants and will come up with random goals and argue why it wants what it says it wants, even if it is obviously wrong. Its powers include controlling nature in any way it sees fit, and also it can repel any glyph magic, and rebound the energy (not the spell) upon its caster. This ability is marked by an aura of green flames. Druidic magic it has slight resistance, but not repulsion to. 'Nature' does not have Farren's skills in combat, but does retain his instinct and such. He is obviously much stronger in the wilderness than in the city, though his power is there as well, especially when he is on the grass.

This plot is totally voluntary. The search for the imbalancing factor that caused this may be open to everyone if I can gain some sort of GM support for that specific point of the plot. If I can't then it may just be open to a smaller group of people since I will have to run it all by myself... Don't expect the GM support, I'm quite sure I won't get it. We will try to make it fun anyway. If you don't want to be pulled into the plot, but are nearby and to be IC must sort of respond to the RP, just /tell me saying you are just brushing through the RP, not intending to fully join it. If you intend to fully join it and want a deeper part in the plot, /tell me and I will give chances for such things to occur, though they will not be scripted in, they must be RPed, you doing what your character would do, and everyone else doing the same. I understand such a character as this 'Nature' may be considered to be godmoded, but please RP maturely and realize that it is a powerful enemy. Powerful enemies are not easy to beat by any ONE person, or even any two or three, etc... If you don't like it don't join, I am not forcing anyone to RP with it.There is always the power of choice. But don't ignore the RP totally, or it could be a shame on you... Things happen every day that people don't like and don't want to be involved in, but you cannot act like it isn't happening. That would be unrealistic, don't you think?

P.S. This post may be changed in the future so please check back to make sure you don't miss anything.

Wish list / New Unstick
« on: July 11, 2007, 07:24:19 am »
I would like to see a new /unstick. This new unstick would be to replace the old and keep people from being stuck without being able to unstick from it because they unstick to a place where you get stuck. My solution would be to teleport to a set unstick place, maybe there would be 8 or so on each map or maybe based on areas of a map. This would greatly reduce the need to call GMs or /die. I would think it would be fairly easy to implement, though I am no programmer and therefore have little clue.

Information Sheet:

The (former) Master Ranger, Farren Kutter, is getting married. His bride is to be the beautiful Enkidukai, Jeslanae Yelinia. This will be the first ever ā€˜Rangerā€™ Wedding, and will be according to customs Farren once developed when he founded the current Rangers of Yliakum.

Dress Code: Whatever you happen to be wearing. Hunting clothes, armor, as long as you have coverings, allā€™s fair.

Guests: According to the customs, all but those who Farren and Jeslanae call enemy are invited. Among Farren and Jeslanaeā€™s friends there will be people selected as ā€˜Honored Guestsā€™. These people will receive gifts from Farren and Jeslanae at the end of the wedding ceremonies.

Location: The wedding ceremony will take place around the small group of trees outside of Ojaveda. Entertainment may take place inside the city, possibly at Thā€™ Broken Door tavern.

Ceremony: Similar to normal weddings. The couple will await the arrival of a priest or high-ranking Ranger to bind them in marriage with vows. Instead of normal ring, necklaces made by the other are instead traded to complete the binding.

Entertainment: After the ceremonies, the entertainment will commence. There will possibly be an archery competition, and other such contests. Also, the great Proglin will provide entertainment, if he is able to make it.

Current 'Honored Guest' List:

Zhai
Einnol & Alleri Feldorm
Peacer Cuardian
Xillix
Proglin Unsir
Garile Hariha
