« on: April 27, 2010, 07:39:05 pm »
When I finish downloading the update, the window shuts down without an error message with the update uninstalled. The console reported "md5sum of updater.zip does not match correct md5sum" how do I fix this?

In-Game Roleplay Events / A Planeshift Curseword
« on: December 30, 2009, 02:52:04 pm »
Sorry, I didn't know where else to post this, so I chose here.

Do you ever have the need to curse to emphasize the situation or include the note of seriousness but can't since it doesn't make sense in the PS world? I am talking specifically about the h*** or, in its PG-form, heck. The equivalent DR, doesn't seem as powerful, as "heck" is for the d*****, and is a horrible proposition, while the death realm is just an inconvenience. On another note, Death Realm, is too long a curse word, while DR sounds too ooc. To summarize, I am looking for an in-setting word to replace the h*** in "running like h***."

Note: This is a serious question. I don't want random answers like tuna or farshnic.

PS: A bowdlerized form might be a good settings addition.

Wish list / Deceit
« on: December 23, 2009, 11:55:39 am »
The current gameplay mechanics allow you to check other players power relative to yours by checking their description. This is a good thing both for rp and game-play, as it can be explained by how strong you perceive them to be, and can be used to make fight-or-flight decisions. It would also make sense rp-wise though, that with enough skill you could alter others' perceptions of you. My suggestion is for a static skill that can slightly alter the readings other's would get. A good enough assassin would make sure they look harmless in order to assure they are more successful. Possibly there could be a skill for both directions, Deceit, for appearing to be weaker, and Bluff, for appearing stronger. A side-affect of the skills would be being able to see through others' changes, as a bluffer would know the tricks, and a deceiver know when others are pretending to be small.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Repair Downloaded Wrong Version
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:36:38 pm »
I was aggravated with having to relaunch PS repeatedly before it works, so I went to PSLaunch and did the repair and it downloaded all the art files of the older version. Now it wont let me in the game or the launch, so I have to download it again.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Set Controls
« on: December 12, 2009, 05:21:15 pm »
In the pslaunch, when, I click on choose settings, controls, the options box is empty. This is a nuisance, since, having a mac, the left shift and left control don't give a response in game, so I can't run. How do I fix this?

Wish list / Relative Stats
« on: August 05, 2009, 08:41:20 pm »
A problem with the current stat system is that, since the stats are based on constants, their is too little relativity given between quantity (the stats) and quality (how strong the character should be while RPing) . For example, would a person with 200 Strength be considered pretty strong if more than half of PlaneShift was maxed out? Since there is almost no way to figure out how your stats are relative to the masses, it is easy to accidentally god-mod (by claiming to be more extraordinary than you are) or over-weaken your character. This is one of the many struggles between  rp and mechanics that should be sorted out.
Instead of remaking the entire system to create self-averaging stats (so that the mean of all stats is always 100), a much simpler solution would be to just post an updating section on the site that displays the average of stats (and possibly skills as well). This will not interfere with the current mechanics, and allow players to have a relative point for players to work with. Also, if averages can be put on the site, no doubt outlier numbers and maybe even a bell curve for each stat. Also, having this information online would be interesting to look at over time, seeing how the averages rise (with training) and fall (with new members). If it isn't too much of a struggle to record stats as deaths and value of sold goods are, it would be very helpful to have.

Wish list / Superstition
« on: April 13, 2009, 06:16:06 am »
Superstition is part of society. It remains for long periods of time, even after it is proved wrong. It especially existed in medieval times, and the times after that. I think to make the game more believable, superstitions have to start going around.

I am NOT suggesting Game masters use their alts to spread superstition. That would be inefficient, and eventually die out, no matter how much it is spread. What I am suggesting is to implement very strange relationships in the coding, such as, when a fish is near you, you will mine better (I don't know what the coding for mining is, but I assume it is a percent chance, which could be increased by variable fish.), Or a knife near you increases energy depletion (they don't all have to be good.). WHen it is implemented, the developers would admit they exist, but not tell specifically what they are. This (I assume), will cause a wave of superstitions that people will follow, even if they don't actually do anything, such as, never carry four of anything, or spin around before a battle to make yourself stronger. There can also be race-based superstitions, like Krans make everyone around them less agile, and Klyros make everyone around them have less strength (and so on and so forth for each race.). This will make the game more realistic, because in real life, people wouldn't be accepting different races (and that is just skin color) even if they avoid showing it. Whether or not a lot of superstitions are implemented is not as important as announcing they exist, since I'm sure RPers are more than capable of finding out (or thinking they find out) some of there own.

Complaint Department / A Husbands Delema
« on: March 25, 2009, 02:13:46 pm »
There is a part in this quest that requires knowledge of colors. I am upset since I am colorblind and was unable to do that part. I ended up getting through it with help from my guild, but I still don't like the fact that specific colors were used. Is it possible this could be avoided in future quests, or are colorblind people not a big enough part of the population to consider?

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Training
« on: March 01, 2009, 12:49:23 pm »
I can't figure out the training. I have spent at least 8 progress points on the mining skill with the button buy skill. I still have lv 0, and the bar doesn't move at all. Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong? Please help.
Note: I have read the player guide and it didn't help me with this, so don't tell me to read it.
