Hi, folks.
If there are any other GUI-conservatives like myself around...
Since I don't really like (read: can't stand) the Elves skin, I recreated the old
Default skin by adapting its graphics to the new GUI system. :sorcerer:
It is of course slightly different from the old stuff, due to technical requirements of the new system,
but I did my best to copy the look and feel of the "good ole times".

Most of the art work is under ABC license anyway and I just adapted it into the new form
but my additions (new tileable background texture, pattern and so on) are hereby released
under ABC license as well. I probably won't have the time to do regular updates and
maintenance on the thingy, but of course the devs are welcome to include the skin in
coming (current? - update?) releases.
:beta: There are some inherent issues with the new system and the old graphics conflicting,
e.g. the accept icon partially disappearing behind panels in the trade window. But since it
was originally a project for private use only I couldn't be bothered to invest a lot of time
in trying to fix these minor details and recreate all the necessary graphics bits needed to do so.
Some fellow guild and alliance members thought it might be of use for others as well and so
I decided to "publish". However it is a lot better than using the old "default" skin that is still
included in the PS installation, where there are no window backgrounds and some other flaws.

Unfortunately, RapidShare is overloaded, as usual (at least for me as Astra2Connect user, sharing my IP address with many others using the same proxy).
For me, any filehoster is better than RapidShare...

Well that and, since you already understand how to fit art to the GUI you could be invaluable for alternative skins done by more casual contributors.

Is there a way to get the menu buttons along the top of the communications box?
Maybe its my system. I went back and tried the boniskin, which had horizontal menu buttons (main, npc, auction, etc.) but are now vertical like the elves gui.
I removed the program from this w7 box, using add/remove including the planeshift folder and possibly an app data folder, not sure there.
Also the transparacy adjust does not work on this skin.
If this is not the case for others, how do I get rid of any PS artifacts in the system like the registry, etc, so as to start clean?
And thanks for the work in trying to get back the original look and feel.

You can alter the menu bar style by right-clicking on the anchor icon of the menu bar (the heptagon crystal for the "elves" skin, the double ^ for the "classic" skin).
PlaneShift does not write application settings into the registry, because the registry exists only in Windows - but PlaneShift is a cross-plattform project. Instead, settings are in *.cfg files in the "application data" folder of your OS user account.

The layout of the different windows is rather independent of the selected skin, but defined in the files *planeshift_install*/data/gui/*xml. Thus you can use a chat.xml with horizontal chat buttons (such as the one in BoniSkins, or simply make your own) along with Daevaorn's classic skin (which is my personal preference). Notice that with Plane Shift 0.5.1 a new file chat_basic.xml has been added which is used instead of chat.xml when you choose the corresponding option: interface - chat tabs - use basic chat window. I hope this answers your question.
And once more, thumbs up for Daevaorn's project.

Thanks for this - it just might be the thing that gets me back into PlaneShift. I always get totally turned off it when I do a new install and end up with "elves".

i get a white box around the cursor, any way to fix that??

I tried to update this skin, 'cos I think it was a really nice one.
Added Quickspell bar button.
I wish I could have sent a PM to Daevaorn but I think I still can't send PM.
Anyway if anyone think this can be of any use, I'll be glad to share (even if I have not any idea about how)!

@LigH: Thank you :) ! So, of course I'll need webspace if Daevaorn will say it's ok (otherwise, as I just did some change here and there and I haven't created nearly anything it would be a bit unfair, I think...).
In the meantime if you'd like to "collect" this skin, just send me a /tell when you see me in Yliakum and we'll find out a way for me to send it!
@Bonifarzia: Thank you! Even if, probably, if you (and not me :-\ ) had updated this skin, well, it would have been much more good looking! (this is just my first attempt to see how skins work :-[ ...)

@Bonifarzia: I wasn't able to fix the white box around the classic cursor: I have tryed but it looked still odd, and white, as in Daevaorn skin... I think I'll try again soon (or, of course, feel free to modificate what I've done, updating my update with the classic cursor!!!)

The skin can be added to the client as an option, but the current green background is too bright, making it hard to read the text, can you try few different shades for the background, and post here the results?

Great skin! In my opinion this is a lot better than elves, and suits the atmosphere of the game perfectly.

@ Noobstorm: Glad you like it. I cannot claim the credit though, it's all original PS work. This used to be the default theme in 3.x And I agree. Much much better than the Elves for my taste.

I've updated this thing, so, icons which weren't 'rounded' now should all be.

I was asked about this in gossip today, and looked back over the thread and saw Talad was ok with adding it. I decided I would work on getting it added. There is some new art that needs making, If I can make suitable additions I'll get it committed asap.

I've made now tool bar icons, update book reading art, added new NPC bubble quest window art, update imagelist.xml to bring it up to date, altered the chat window to make the text input clearer. All being well it will be in the next release.

If you could add the slots to the bag, it would be useful. And horizontal tabs if possible, better to get it in than get bogged down. :)

It will only be using the default UI, but if you want to use different windows you can just copy the xml files from another skin file into it.
