Wish list / Re: Restrictions on using Glyphs in Hydlaa
« on: September 28, 2018, 02:57:45 pm »
There is much more to Magic in Yliakum than just offensive spells. Messengers and miners use strength buffs to assist in carrying heavy loads to and from storage and to customers. Diviners identifying items with special properties. Crafters enchanting items.
And of course healers at the hospital and elsewhere helping to heal those citizens who have become injured. There are many non-lethal forms of magic and it is so ingrained in the lives of the citizens that this would only detract from the players experiences in Hydlaa. If it detracts from instead of adding to the in-game experience imo it's a negative not a positive for the game.

I like the OP's idea and Venalan's idea. Either or both would be nice.
I also would like to see items(especially armor) wear out a bit faster.

Wish list / Re: The next skill implemented-Pick pocketing
« on: January 07, 2017, 02:56:01 pm »
I'm not really interested in a player picking mechanic of any kind. My interest is in the mechanics for pick pocketing NPC creatures and quest NPCs(the non player inhabitants of Yliakum).
I would hope that there would be some kind of reward for successfully picking anything, however small that reward might be. It's the incentive for training the skill. "You successfully picked the Riverling's pocket for 1 hexa and 4 tria." or alternatively "You failed to pick the Riverling's pocket. The riverling retaliated, hitting you for 16 health damage, and stunned you for 5 seconds."
Just as with the Lock Picking skill,if you never get any reward from any chest you successfully lockpick, then there's no benefit, and no motivation to continue training the skill. It would render the skill pointless.

Considering the whole of the Diaboli race supposedly migrated to the DR to live out the rest of their existence,I always thought that eventually there would be like a town,or settlement down at the bottom. With some of their pet giant snake friends slithering around here and there.

Thanks Migg for the constructive feedback, and Eonwind for the info.
Just to reiterate,I never suggested in any way implementing a pvp or player picking mechanic. Since,as you said Eonwind, that when pickpocketing is eventually implemented we will be able to pick NPCs,I guess my thoughts on RP value were aligned with that.
Like sneaking up on rich NPC citizens and merchants and lifting their valuables while someone else distracts them etc. That's where the mechanic for picking NPCs and RPing could overlap.
Anyway,thanks for the feedback.

Rigwyn, you completely missed on what I was saying, and in fact took it completely the opposite of what I'm suggesting. Read again.
I said specifically we would NOT want to have the ability to do this to other players for the problems it could cause.
I simply got the idea for the skill from the interaction in game today, but in no way do I support implementing the ability to pick pocket other players as part of the skill. Creature mobs and at higher skill NPCs is what I suggested, not players.
I'm sorry you missed the whole context of my idea. Maybe try reading it again in the proper context. My turn to say wow.

Wish list / The next skill implemented-Pick pocketing

Ok so I talked a bit about this with the player/dev who portrays Animated earlier today, after he happened to sneak up on me while mining. He pick-pocketed a few ores and my pick from me before I retaliated in kind by killing him and recovering my stolen items.
He had to use GM commands to actually pick from my inventory, but it occurred to me that pick pocketing would be an interesting new skill to develop, and since it's already on the list of Various skills, would be a natural progression from Lock Picking.
Now we probably wouldn't want to have the ability to do this to other players,as this could cause some problems, but I think it would be neat to be able to pick NPCs. To start at low levels by attempting to pick-pocket passive creature NPCs and eventually quest NPCs would be a fun and interesting addition to PS. It has tons of RP value imo as well.
Then there are factors to consider like faction loss and gain for failure or success, should the passive creature attack you if caught,as well as the types of items you could pick(my thoughts would be animal parts at first up to possibly normal weapon and armor drops at higher level, and possibly some food, pots etc). High level picking on quest NPCs could net money, clothing items,a weapon or rarely even a glyph.
What do you think?

There are plenty of non-combat related skills you can use to gain exp,and therefore PP. I'm pretty sure you can level most all of them up quite a bit without losing your life, though I don't know you,so don't quote me on that.

I have to disagree with Volki on this. To me it makes perfect sense to level skills by actually using them. Just as irl you get better at something by doing it over and over. A guy who has done the same job for 10 years will obviously be better at doing it than the guy who just got hired last week, because he's done it over and over again. Stats not being a skill, but a physical or mental attribute to make using a skill easier or more proficient to use,I think works fine with the current method of building up PP from gained exp.
If it aint broke, why "fix" it until it is?

LigH,what would that do to skills you Can train but haven't yet. Would hate to see some new player unknowingly prevent themselves from training implemented skills by doing this.

Agreed. While I'm very glad to have the account back,I no longer have that email account, and would also like to update to a current email addy.
Personally,I always thought using email addy as account name was a bad idea, for this very reason. The interwebz are constanly evolving, and we consumers evolve and change with it.
Much better would be just making an account name, same as we do with password, and just have email addy as contact info, which could then be updated as needed.
Just my 2 tria on the matter.

Thank you Talad.I logged into Myplane and then the game and my old account now works.
Although it appears my inventory is empty except equipped items,my quest history and skills are also gone. But at least i have the account, and can rebuild the chars again.
Once again,Thanks.Much appreciated, and this will make it a lot easier for others with old accounts, when they come back.

I am also returning after a lenghty hiatus. I tried this method,DLed the .58 and still got the"incorrect password or username" message. Updated again to .59 and same thing...
Is it really necessary to go through all this just to recover an inactive account?
Seems like there should be a much simpler method, like providing UN and PW to an admin in private massage and getting updated.Since my info didn't work in .58 either, this seems like my only recourse.
Also,I no longer have the email account from when I created the game account,so resending password wont help.I need to change to a current email account.
I haz a sad.  :(

Edit - And yes I changed the lines in servers.xml to planeshift.subhosting.net when i tried the .58 version of the client.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / No log in renderer
« on: January 03, 2010, 02:06:50 pm »
Hi,I just downloaded the latest version and everything seemed to load and update fine. But When i launch the game all i get is a screen with a parchment like paper saying the servers are up,but there is no place to type in my log in info. What am I missing?    ???

Hitting the 'Play' button only makes the screen disappear for a moment and then it reapears the same as it was.
