The Infinity Project
« on: July 27, 2006, 07:36:11 am »
Not long ago I found a game which is much like our own project, a free game, a game created by inspiration. This game, "Infinity", is of Science Fiction character. It is nade by a number of people working on the many spaces of this space.

The story is that humanity is scattered across space, much like EvE, and you embark on a quest to find what every man and woman seeks, their homeplanet, Earth. This universe is to be vast, enormous, even greater then EvE online which is said to host nearly 5000 worlds. What is certainly astonishing with this game is it's game engine, it enables you to zoom from one place to another in marvelous detail. An example is you stand on the surface of a planet and you can follow a battle in space at high definition.

This project is still young because of it's vastness, as is ours, no advertising meant, only to show you an equal of our goals. To become a haven of gamers where everything that is great in that genre is mixed with new ideas and concepts, a fresh start from the many stereotypes, so to say.

Infinity: The Quest for Earth
Enjoy

Peace.

Too bad that "The game is currently in early development, and no playable version has been released yet." Is there maybe a very weak version ior something?

Sounds cool ..I'm always a succer for a good space MMORPG like Vendetta Online, VegaStrike, Oolite (Elite remake), Privateer Remake (WC Privateer remake), No Gravity, Onyx, Possible Worlds and so on.

Too bad it's not playable yet ...and won't be for Linux for a some time :P

They haven't stated Infinity isn't going to be free... why did you get that impression. At the moment they haven't decided the payment method.

Funny, I have been following that game for a very long time now, as a big Freelancer fan. Recently they have made big progress on it.
To clear away confusion: this game will not be free. The guy behind is is a pretty brilliant programmer as he's building a game and the graphics engine for it on his own! The only other members of his team are artists. But of course, even with a group of 10 artists (I think he has two actually) it would be impossible to make a huge MMO world within a couple of years, especially if you want to make every planet visitable, so he's working a lot on procedural rendering, much like Spore. He also has a couple of gameplay demo's which focus on testing combat gameplay, atm those demos don't work because the testing is finished and the server for it is down, but the programmer is working on a new version for it where the ships will actually have textures and the game will actually have a GUI :P
Fun project!
