Immediate Crashing

Hi there!  I heard about this game from a friend and decided to check it out, but unfortunately, I can't...erm...check it out.  Every time I manage to finally get past the incredibly fickle loading screen (it will sometimes try loading for several minutes, so I just exit the program and try again; usually works), I immediately crash upon loading the world. 

I've seen the posts telling me to "run the updater", but there isn't that option anywhere.  Assuming, of course, the updater and the repair option aren't the same thing.  It's not on the launcher, it's not in the folder in the Programs list, it's not in the actual game's folder found in program files...where in the world would it be?  I've tried changing my target thing in properties, but my computer told me that what I added made no sense and made me get rid of it.  ((EDIT: Got the command to work, but running the updater changed nothing.  Still crashing.))

My computer runs Windows 7 (x64, but I run the x32 version of the client, since I know that's usually more friendly...) and is more than capable of running this game.  It's not fullscreen, either!  What's going on?  I really want to try playing this game because the character creation is the most creative I've ever seen!  Thanks for any and all help!

I'm running PlaneShift on a Windows 7 64 bit machine too and I never had any problem: could you please specify the hardware of your PC? The most important is the graphic card and it is known that all the intel GPU have some troubles running PlaneShift (and games in general).
Try running the 64 bit version of the client: I always installed that one!

Apologies for the double post, but I think I may have figured out what's going on!  Maybe!
I tried turning down all of my settings and turned off background loading.  I'll be slowly turning things back on/back to pretty high settings and edit this post to show what it is exactly that's breaking the game.

EDIT: It's weather.  Weather makes my game crash and I don't know why.  Upsetting, but at least I can get in the game now?  And particles being too high.  The most I can set things at is medium, which is strange because (again), I can play lots and lots of games that are released even now on pretty dang high settings.

try the enable vbo checkbox in the pslaunch graphics setting

With the latest update there are rare cases when a computer does not like the particle effects. Weather, spells, torches, and water fountains can all cause crashes. I'm one of the ones this has happened too. As bilbous suggested going to pslaunch and enabling VBO immediately fixed all particle crashing which was occurring. I would suggest turning it on and then turning particles to High and see if that fixes it for you. Most of the time when this is suggested to someone it fixes the problem.

Yeah Ive flying for a year now and Ive never had any problems however with this installation of this new update I cant even log on without it crashing. Anyone have any advice or is this just going to have to be patched?

Turn off any unnecessary things like weather, grass,etc. or backgoundloading on 'none' might help.
It could also be very possible that you are on a map that is causing you to crash, to help you with that I will need a character name so I can move your character to another map.
