I started playing the game back in 2010 for a bit with my brother and then we decided to give it a few years and come back and give it a try. Back then when we created a character we started in the Welcome Area, but for some reason this time when I created it I didn't so I started out with nothing and don't really have a good grasp of the controls anymore. Is/was this a glitch? Or did they scrap the Welcome Area for now?

Only the first character on an account automatically starts off in the tutorial area.  Other characters can do the quests, they just have to go to the area to do them.  Ask in game and I'm sure someone will be happy to show you the way.

Or open another account and your first char on that one will be able to go through the tutorial/welcome area.  I think most of the people here have a million alts, so having multiple accounts is common.

Another option is to ask a gm, you can see if any are online with /who game
