The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: Suicide Game

A blind clamod menki enters Kada-El's, his staff making it's familiar "clack clack clack" against the stone and wood floors. The smell of death permeates the air, and his sharp senses pick it up. He gasps and grows quite concerned, "Hello? Is there anyone here?" Allelia has long since left the establishment, unable to stomach the unfortunate scenes of accidental death. The only thing currently living to respond is that innocent gerbil. It scurries over to him and chirps to Miomo.

Not one to let any of Xiosia's creatures go unnoticed, he bends down saying, "Oh, hello there little one. Do you know what happened here?" He feels around for the gerbil, and finds it when it bites him on the hand, "Ouch!" he exclaims, pulling his paw back and rubbing the wound with his other one. Figuring that he mistook the cute chirp, and this was in fact a rat, he started whacking at it with his staff. Being blind, and the gerbil being small, it took several attempts before he made contact, but that one hit was enough to squish the mammal.

--

About one week later, Miomo was frothing at the mouth. He was lost somewhere in the forest between Hydlaa and Levrus' magic shop. It was raining, and he was filthy. The disease was eating away at his brain, and making him crazy, like his sister. He stumbled about, tripping over roots and small bushes while slurring Aramara's name repeatedly, but hardly recognizably. He wasn't that far from the main path in fact, and he heard a rivnak trotting down it. He turned to the sound and his insanity was apparent in his unfocusing eyes, having lost his glasses days ago. The crazy clamod sprinted towards the sound and fell down onto the main path right in front of the rivnak. The beast reared up, terrified, and rightfully so. It came down, and the full force of it's hooves crushed his skull, sending it's poor dermorian rider to pitch forward off of the creature.

A nightlantern fell out of Miomo's paw.

[Travosh will soon run out of fingers with which to keep count on.]

After reading the stories I realize now that the formatting must have been retained from the original submission, and I retract my previous statement.

33
Do we count Aramara's stories as one, or two for the sake of voting?

Caraick, would you be so kind as to put up the link to my PDF document for my story, "Confessions of a Clamod, Part 2?" I worked nearly as long on that as I did the story itself, and I encourage folks to download and read it in that format. If you've lost the link, I can regenerate it.

Also, the formatting for some of the stories is broken, and it looks like extra carriage returns were put in with an assumption of where lines would end, instead of allowing the web browser to flow paragraphs to the width of the window as it was designed to do. I'm not sure if that was done with the submission to you, or the copy from that submission into the thread. Regardless, it makes the story harder to read, and can negatively impact the author's vote.

In case it was that way in the author's submissions, here is the technique to avoid that. Write each paragraph as one line with no returns. You can put in returns while editing the story, but remove them before submitting. The web browser will word wrap each paragraph automatically. I would be happy to help correct the formatting problems if you need assistance.

Miomai happens by and sees the black Hello Kitty doll laying on the ground. She picks it up and smiles, thinking it's cute, and especially loving it's indigo irises. It reminds her of Sarian, and she thinks about having a little one of her own, and how unlikely that is since she can't even keep people from thinking her wicked for five minutes. The clamod strolls over to Harnquist's, lost in these thoughts, but is abruptly brought to the present by Herihi who is there hawking her wares. The beautiful, yet rude diaboli makes a snide comment to Miomai, "Awww, look at the little baby hugging her dolly." The fenki flashes Herihi a cold look before storming off, determined to retaliate for her repeated jibes.

Not two steps away and an idea pops in her head, and she runs off to the library. Miomai checks out the book "Teach Yourself Voodoo in Ten Minutes for Dummies: The Missing Manual." Feeling a bit thirsty, she takes the book and the doll to Kada-El's and buys herself a refreshing mug of ale. She brings all three items over to a seat in the corner and plops herself in it.

Just ten minutes and one ale later, she's turned her Hello Kitty doll into a voodoo doll ready to torture Herihi. Instead of poking the voodoo doll with pins, Miomai decides to go all out and rip the head right off. She takes the head in one paw, and the body in another and with a quick, "Say hello to Mother Dakkru for me," she decapitates the doll. Unfortunately the doll was already a voodoo doll, of her.

Miomai drops her head.

Miomai will miss GreyGhost. Oh, and you too Soloyos. You and Ardoin are the only two dwarves I've RPd with beyond just a bit of smalltalk, sadly.

Here's a few more for you then:
Marshmallow
Martian
Marscapone
Marshal

Purposely misspelled:
Marengue
Marlot (Honestly, it's a misspelling of merlot.)
Maraick
Mardred

Silly phrases:
Mar she blows!
Near and Mar
Your door is aMar.

What the heck, I've always liked this one:
AraMariana.

Complaint Department / Re: misotheism from a roleplaying perspective
« on: October 15, 2011, 03:41:44 pm »
It is possible to be an atheist in this game. If my sources for the definition of atheism are correct, an atheist is one who rejects the existence of God or gods. A character in game can say that they believe in the existence of Laanx, Talad, Xiosai, Dakkru, and whoever else is considered a god, but deny that they are gods. Instead he or she can insist that they are just really powerful beings.

I think misotheism is too narrowly defined to be the appropriate word. Characters do not need to specifically hate the gods, even as they believe in their existence. They can simply be dispassionate about religion in general. It's a fair character choice, as religion in real life is always able to cause heated debates, and is a very personal experience. Not wanting to bring that baggage into a game is reasonable.

But I'm splitting hairs here. Whether someone chooses to role play an atheist, misotheist, agnostic, or simply just secular, the original quote is just a guideline. I look at those as simply assistance to get the new player thinking about their character. For me, the initial choices I can make when creating a new character are way too limiting, so I hardly bother acknowledging them, except to make sure they're not completely off the wall.

The wording might be adjusted slightly, but it would be hard to capture all of what one should be thinking about when choosing that religious option. As it stands, I don't see people who have had a bad experience with religion, or staunch individualists as necessarily bad people. I know one of the former, who is a very good fenki.

Edit:

I knew there was something else I wanted to write. Regarding Dakkru's revelation number three, I never thought that it meant that when a faithless character died, that was permanent. But I do think that Dakkruists would, in particular, have strong opinions regarding those people. The question is, when does one's spirit shrivel? I would say that death in Yliakum is only a corporeal death. I thought the 'all' in that last sentence, "All who die the true death are Yliakum's gifts to Me," was, in fact, all people who die the true death, but now I'm thinking it means all the faithless.

It is completely appropriate for this to be vague and left up to interpretation, that makes the differing opinions of the characters that much more interesting. If all we had was established dogma, well, you'd still have inter-faith debates, but not so much intra-faith debating.

this fenki's gone to heaven.

Not if this fenki has any say in the matter. Maybe a test of her faith is in order.

Sorry Teshia for hijacking your story. Now back to your regularly scheduled tale of Dakkru and despair.

You may, but realize that doing so constitutes your acceptance of the EULA, absolving me of all liability.

Thought Marsu perma'd, not went to the DR 0-0

Those are not necessarily orthogonal actions. These are the Words of the goddess Dakkru, "All who die the true death are Yliakum's gifts to Me," from the book "The Four Revelations of Dakkru."

Between Teshia's and Rhianon's unpleasant dealings with Dakkru, it looks like Miomai needs to go on damage control with Her PR campaign. Maybe she'll present Dakkru's 6/6/6 plan.

You see a few Dakkru but they usually dont last long

Miomai's been a Dakkru worshipper for as long as she's been in the game. 'Course she hasn't focused on that most of the time. Too busy being insane. Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This is a very timely post for me. Miomai wants to start a Dakkruist group (I have to find a better word). You can add the four revelations to Her religion:

1. The dark crystal's power has grown unstable.
2. All shards of the dark crystal are Her domain.
3. The gods shall no longer spare the faithless.
4. A priesthood shall form to honour Her.

Being a newbie, I did not know that Xiosia/Dakkru were ever not a part of Yliakum.

I have been thinking about conducting Dakkru ceremonies. They'll not be for the faint-of-heart.

I personally agree with the philosophy of this guild. I believe that utopia includes anarchy. In a world where everyone respects and has compassion for everyone else, government has no place. Sure, groups need to form to coordinate such things as building community facilities and roads and stringing up electricity, and other such necessities, but I think with careful consideration an ultimate regulating body is not needed.

Of course the mindset of everyone on the planet needs to change drastically for this to ever become a reality. So we act out the idea in a make-believe world.

I'd like to play devil's advocate and join the one as a PITA and see if I couldn't divide and conquer in a sense. I've been in a simple hobby group that lost members and got into heated debates about where the group would go and no one had the intestinal fortitude kick out the drama-inducing member(s). I raise my paw in that offence too, as I was the leader for a year. It's not easy to toss out the rotten apples. They really do manage to get more than a few other members on their side such that they have divided the group. The end result is that good members leave to avoid the drama.
