Crafting Parts Icons
« on: September 04, 2007, 01:30:49 pm »
Greetings  :)

as everyone know the crafting became a business for some, a hobby for others. im used to craft sometimes and with all the "books" icons i get confused (even lost a lot of steel, iron&coal , tin&copper) then i spoke about...2 weeks ago to my partner about trying to make some differents icons for each weapons, for each situation "beta, delta, heated, red hot.." but well we got the problem of separating the heated, super heated and red hot ones. so for the moment we let them besides.

Well have a look at those already

edit: old webhosting died => open new window to see the pics

Longsword Brittle

1) which ones are the best? the ones with notch or without? (solved)
2) Are they good enough ? i mean do they stick/coincide with the "brittle" state?
3) we need ideas so come on  ;D lol

Well, those icons are really good, i love them

I just find the Longsword not "brittle" enough, looks to neat, i think.

If i could give any idea, how about a simple alpha beta or delta greek letter to differentiate the respective blades?

Oh, and those with notch are better  :)

Good job, good looking icons, would love to see them ingame :)
So why do I love when I still feel pain?
When does it end, when is my work done?
Why do I fight and why do I feel that
I carry a sword, that I carry a sword through a battlefield?

Could you remake them with a glow, not so much in the detail but an overall glow, like when you take them out of the furnace. A dull red glow for heated, with a gradient tone from the red spectrum, the edges being a lighter orange than the core, a dull red; a yellow glow for super heated, with the same gradient but a yellow to a dull orange instead; a bright white glow, the gradient going from white at the edges to bright orange at the core. The core being the thickes part of the weapon, the edges being the thinnest.

As far as the plha beta and delta stage, how ahout a flat rod for alpha, no decernable shape, maybe just a size correction. A rough concept with the edges, shank,  and tip for a beta, and what you have now for the delta stage.

I would use this look for the brittle and dull stages, except mak it a a bit darker for the brittle stage and lighter for the dull stage to differentiate the two, and use a polished version after using the wheel and before assembly.

(with notch ) [<= right word uh?]
You can use the word shank for that part of the weapon.

That "tab" of metal is usually referred to as the "tang" of a knife.

I.E. in a "full tang" knife, the metal of the blade runs all the way through the handle to the bottom. You may see this on some marketing materials for different knives (you may also see "partial tang"). Any tang is preferable to no tang. hehe sounds funny.

A shank refers to a strip of stiff material (usually metal or fiberglass in shoes). In prison's they are used as improvised knives after sharpening, which is where the word shank gets it's "knife" slang definition from.

just a note for you...
