do you realise that in some country this is forbidden by the law? do we really want to deal with such issue?
this is PlanShift, so why can't just imagine a less troublesome gesture to express the same emotion?

There is nothing "forbidden" or "troublesome" when you re making art, and games are art. Nuff said.
Aside that, i think raised fist is a nice idea to keep in mind, and politics are a nice aspect of the game.

Just remember what staying IC means. It doesn't matter what ideas you have as a person because as with everything else the player's own political ideas shouldn't affect the character's ideas and its not necessary they are the same. Your character is a different person you can overview from above but he/she/kra is not yourself.
So, even if someone was roleplaying a political extremist using ideas or symbols from real life there is no danger of offending anyone, just as long as everything remains IC. If the situation goes out of hand and people start to actually argue its bad roleplaying.

this issue has nothing to do with staying IC or OOC (and personally a raised fist hand don't trouble me that much) the issue is with the law, I realise for some of you the thing sounds weird but I just suggest to stay out of trouble since it *may* happen that some judge can forbid the game distribution in some country. Just to make an example that everyone can understand pornography in a game can have the same issue.
However I am not a lawyer, I'm just suggestion to avoid unwanted issue perhaps with a different animation.

Just a thought, but if some country banned cats from standing upright does that mean we Enki got to go?
My thought, fix what we got first, then add.

"You can never have too many cat girls!" and you can quote me on that!

If you can find a single example of a country where this would be relevant, I'll immediately admit I'm wrong and you're right. Till then this is an absolutely ludicrous way to try and prevent anything. Because everything is illegal somewhere. This entire game is probably illegal in like... China where the internet is censored. And they have a lot more potential players than like, the middle of Africa where its a war crime to raise your hands.

Suppose this game gets banned in some country. Then the game will receive much attention from the online media, bringing in new players. That might sound extreme but that happened before.

After looking for which country finds raised fists offensive via Google, I found that in some it's the equivalent to giving the middle finger...I've had my characters flip the bird at others whose players are from countries where this is offensive with no negative consequences. Probably more than the two times I can think of off the top of my head, too. Frankly, if you're that easily offended, you shouldn't even be on the internet. Heck, let's have sticking your middle finger up as an animation, too, unless the settings team decides some other gesture is the equivalent in Yliakum. It'll add to the immersion.

With 10.2 million subscribers as of December 2011, World of Warcraft is currently the world's most-subscribed MMORPG, and holds the Guinness World Record for the most popular MMORPG by subscribers.

It's nice to be thoughtful of other people. However, if it's good enough for Blizzard I think Planeshift will get away with it. Oh, and they play WoW in China ;)

(ps. yes, I know it's not the kind of raised fist the op suggested.)
