after many false starts trying to create a portrait digitally, i dusted off my old mechanical pencil and sketched this up.

Your artistic talents make me go ::| And then maybe a little \\o//
-
aww thanks Mari!
it's been years since i've even thought about doing something figurative, let alone representational. i'm glad it's still somewhere inside me.
let it be known that looking through your drawings were a major part of my inspiration.
-
That's soooo pretty. I love the detailing.
-
With ears this big she will hear any mockery :P ... oops. :-[ :-X
But in general: Well done, she looks quite educated and experienced.
-
the left ear did i think come off a little big, but i was drawing from the in game character model while also looking at one of my cats. actually mad an attempt to thin the ear out from the in game model and making the ear more pointy, which i think made the ears look more elongated.
-
Looks great! \\o//
/me is tempted to ask for more of it.
-
Agreed. More please? :woot:
-
Nice work! What kind of feathers are those?
-
supposed to be fire carkarass feathers.

Oni Macaroni

Oni has a crazy look in that pic O.o
-
it's those creepy nolthrir eyes

Very nice sketches Aramara. You successfully captured her Native American style. Now there is artwork that is within my ability to appreciate. ;)
-
Really like these drawings :P

Icerra Meibi, Badass Adorable
-
With such a cute face, how can Miomai not feel deep guilt and regret at cutting off her fingers?
And for that matter, not laugh hysterically when she's acting tough?
Nice picture, and its a good thing your helmet has ear holes. Though strategically placed horns could double as ear protectors. That does not work well for hearing, however.
-
the game model has her ears sticking out right behind the horns. I like it.
i've got a good idea for a portrait of Miomai, but it's not appropriate to attempt it with micro$oft paint.

took the hand drawn portrait and turned it into line work using illustrator. next step will be to color it in. i don't have a tablet nor a fancy painting program, so i'll see what i can accomplish with a mouse and photoshop. don't hold yer breath.
-
I'm excited to see what it looks like anyway! I've been tossing around the idea of getting one of those nifty computer drawing pad doo-dads (my techie lingo is AMAZING), but dang they're expensive. Still, eventually I think it would be a fun thing to toy with. ;D
-
thanks mari :flowers:
they're called tablets, and yes, expensive and fun. Although I've heard Ebay or Amazon is the way to go. Dannae has some good advice as to what to get.

zoom in ;)
those textures took me all day. still a work in progress. taking suggestions for a background, so that she's not just emerging out of a black void, however symbolic that may be. I'm leaning towards the DR, but anywhere dark and gloomy really.
-
I didn't zoom in...
then I did... and I wasn't disappointed. Very impressive. Simple but effective.
I really liked the pen sketch you made of her (a few posts ago), the blackness around her has a sort of dynamism. Perhaps something like that? I actually like her as she is. However, I am sure you will do her justice and I look forward to seeing what you'll do.
-
thanks Mogweh :)
I really doubt my ability to replicate that look in photoshop, but I'll experiment with a few things, maybe make a few alternate versions. I'm having a ton of fun with it, and that's all that matters, really.

if there are no objections, I think I'm done with this one.

nice.
what was her name again? *sniggers*
-
funny :P
I was going for a 90's antivillain/antihero comicbook/heavy metal album cover look. That lettering alone took me an entire day, overall I think close to 200 layers were used for the entire picture. A lot of work, but I think it paid off. I'm happy with the way it looks and I think it reflects her character well, and I learned a whole bunch through the process, which is always a plus.
I believe next I will tackle her nemesis.
-
;D And now someone make a retro AMIGA 500 Jump-and-Fight game with this topic! The letters make it look like a sale box.

200 layers! I haven't used 200 layers in my life. Quite some effort, I think it paid dividends though.
-
waah... now I know why I don't wanna do that myself. Too much work ;)
It looks nice :)
-
this wasn't done with the intention of being a PS related piece, but I feel it turned out to be quite Xiosia-esque

very nice Aramara :)
-
Very interesting. Nice work, as always, Ara. ;)
-
No, that's the map of the True Death Realm dungeon. ;)

I feel like Xiosia looks like an amoeba.

Unless you start to merge layers for commodities or looks, you can end up with that number quite easily with some projects. I've done that myself sometimes and you don't know how much it lagged until it finished loading them up...
-
What's been keeping me away from PS. Well, one of the things.

You were drawing on these walls?-) Ornament style looks like yours: http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=40241.msg459890#msg459890

What is up with that mirror room ? O.o
That's one trippy house :-)

And on that day, I knew exactly how I wanted my room to look.

that's paint.

And it was an entire house, one half of a shotgun actually, so it's a series of 6 rooms leading into each other, which allowed us to create a series of immersive installations. We had a progression according to the alchemical order of the elements, and my room was Fire >:D
the mirror room was last, and was a final encounter with the self. the exit was a giant cloth birth canal you had to go through to be reborn back into the world ;)
And on that day, I knew exactly how I wanted my room to look.
i do take commissions ;)

Seconded. ;D
Wow Ara, looks gorgeous. That's a lot of character to contain in only four walls ;). Well done.

/me stares at the pretty colors not unlike a moth looking up at a lantern light.
-
/me bets that's exactly what Ara sees after getting pelted in the head with plastic beads from an overzealous rider.
But seriously, very lovely colors! hoooooow did you get all those circles the same roundness!? :sweatdrop:
-
\\o//
-
<.<
>.>
the small circles are easy, nothing but precisely controlled flicks of the wrist. from there you just build outwards.

Very impressive, though the extra grass and the character stand out as made with a different method. I hope it's not depicting a result of some failed RW spell ;)

This doesn't ring any bells at aaaaallllll. ;D

linework done in illustrator, coloring and background in photoshop. lots of back and forth between those two programs on this one.

The image may be a bit large for the limits in this forum; are you able to link it with a thumbnail?
But a great impression. Mommy showing her cubs her magical powers? One of them seems to hide behind anything available.
-
Clackerweed is bad.
-
:o Drug abuse?!
-
that is not their mother. well, actually, their mother is technically there... and the cubs are wearing masks. the scene this illustrates i'm sure will be revealed later, just wanted to share with y'all now.
-
:o Sounds spiritual...
-
ligh, i don't know how to communicate to the forum software well enough to ask it to only display a thumbnail, or any smaller size version. I can shrink the original linked image on the hosting site, but that would only result in jpeg artifacts, which are already visible because i've already done that once. Any help you can offer is appreciated.
-
Many image hosters may have generated a thumbnail already after uploading the image. The trick is to use the links of both images: Use the URL of the thumbnail in the IMG tag, and wrap the URL of the full size image around it.
[url=http://imagehoster.com/original.jpg][img]http://imagehoster.com/thumbnail.jpg[/img][/url]
If they don't offer a thumbnail on their own, or you believe the thumbnail is too small to see anything, you may have to upload two images: The original and a smaller copy, resized and possibly tighter compressed.
Here an example: (Quote this reply to see my used code)

is that a picture of you having to explain to me the nuances of code?
-
I am not yet that old, and neither that desperate. It's Woody Allen. Dynamically Auto-Painted.

That's one reason why I find http://psps.psde.de/ so convenient to use... when you upload a picture, it displays a line of text for you to copy-paste in a forum, which will do exactly what LigH explained.

oh hey! here's something else i never finished! miss you muches miom*, wherever you may be.
