Heya yeah so i'm actually doing a remake of hydlaa in minecraft, doubt it will be an exact copy,
the plaza for instance is a bit too tricky but the overall design should look similair.
I'll keep updating as i go.

Yes i liked the shack beter, that's why i looked all over the net for a good image or video :)
It's gonna be hard to make anything near were the temple is on this world... guess i'll have to skip a few houses near the plaza... oh well.

Rigwyn, the RP in MineCraft that I've seen isn't nearly as heavy as PS. Then again there are those servers where it's nearly impossible to get white-listed. I have yet to get into one of those.

I saw a few examples on YouTube. There wasn't much of a chat interface and lots of stupid looking user names and people acting like noobs. Aside from some of the impressive landscapes and town designs I saw, It didn't look too appealing but with some work, Mojang could take this somewhere if they really wanted. I doubt they will.

Just a small update.
This time i've made the mountain behind hydlaa.
Made with lava, water buckets and mcedit to change stone type.

That's truly amazing. I assume this was done in creative mode, but it would make a fun location for survival. Just be sure to keep the lighting low in the sewers to let the monsters respawn :P
Also, on the topic of Harn's shack, didn't the devs say they were going to release an interior for his new place?

It's a survival server; I build without creative mode on my piece of land there but I'm not nearly as good as Elvi. Then again, he's the admin thus can build in creative.

I bet you do even if it's not in the exact right place, that area wasn't easy but i got it as possibly close as i could manage with and taking into account that minecraft doesn't handle diagonal areas any good, so a diagonal house (45 degree) would look really bad.

MCEdit only to change cobblestone to stone, the mountains themselfs i made with lava and water buckets.
First i made some straight lines then just pored lava over them.

If anyone want's to suggest improvments on the stuff that's been built so far then go ahead but i'd like to keep it as close to the orginal as possible.

Probably the best way to be, honestly - some Minecraft servers get slaughtered by open enrollment ;D

Thought this time i used mcedit to copy the buildings then normal mc to adjust.
The only things that hasn't been done today are the plaza itself and 3 houses on the right side.

Ok so i've come to the conclusion that this version of hydlaa needs street lights if for nothing else than keep the badies from spawning but i'm having trouble figuring out a model that would fit hydlaa and not look too out of place, atm i'm using a lot of torches and it's starting to look weird...
What i'm asking is this, could you guys provide me with some sort of light fixture that would fit hydlaa other than torches, any ideas will be considered and you'd had a hand in making minecraft hydlaa a beter place ;)
The light sources i have at my disposal are:
Torches
Red stone torches - hardly gives off any light
Glowstone blocks - these have a beter light radious than the 2 previous
Red stone lamps - same radious as above but almost looks like a lantern
and last one is jack 'o' lanterns, slightly less light, depends on what face of the block emits light

forgot to mention these:
netherak burns forever when litten
lava
fire
these however are a litle dangerous cause the buildings are mostly made of wood and wool :-\

Maybe a few strategically placed glowstone blocks on the corners of buildings?

I'd go with the glowstone for buildings, and a few torches placed atop poles around the city. The NPC villages generate lamp-posts of some kind, which look fairly medieval. Might fit well. Don't forget that burning furnaces also give off light. And they're also a placeable block. Could use those for Harn's.

I'm not too keepn on glowstone, they seem out of place, redstone lamps work fine as they look like lanterns, totaly forgot about the simple pole and torch, already used that type of furnace at harns + 2 with netherrack

Heh. Netherrack looks a little too...hellish for my construction tastes ;) I'd stick with the wooden stick/block with torches. Classy and medieval. :thumbup:

This is true. And also, @Elvi, a cleaner way to light up glowstone lamps is to just stick a level on them, and flip it on. Eliminates the need to drop redstone torches everywhere, which don't really fit the mood ;)

I found a nice litle way to light up some of the plaza, lava in holes in the ground and a glass block on top.

Here you can actually see how low down the winch area is, the blue is actually level 0, if you went and jumped in there you'd die almost instantly, the house itself is on level 40.

If anyone has any suggestions on lighting up the place... instead of torches everywhere (to prevent mob spawns at night) please post, did light up the plaza with underground pools of lava and glass ontop, probably needs more and glowstone in the middle of some streets but it doesn't look right :/

It's funny how just adding a glass block over the glowstone on the roads help eliminating some of the problem.

I honestly have no idea how you finished this. I can't even finish a single house in Minecraft. I get bored and move on to a separate biome, and the circle continues... (That's why there are so many unexplainable huts hidden on your server. X-/)

That "planet" is incredible. And huge. Around Hydlaa, it has several more "continents". Even a little one just for me. :whistling:

Also, you're welcome to the eggs any chickens in my woods drop - I only ask that you breed them and replant anything you harvest in service of the woodspirit (but if you want something from the chests in the big ugly tree I'd appreciate if you asked first).
EDIT: There are now some chickens in a livestock enclosure in the woods. Not far from them, there's also a public farm in which you can harvest wheat to breed the animals.

I have been visiting Hydlaa (ok, I took the wrong track when I wanted to go back to my cabin in the woods) and I can tell you it looks awesome. It looks exactly like a blocky version of it! It even has NPCs!
