Wish list / Re: Guild-'hireable' NPCs
« on: June 12, 2008, 12:51:59 am »
wow. This is some serious... stuff. Very nice... It would be nice to be able to interact with a guild in that way. Another cool thing would be to be able to apply to join a guild and maybe set up an interview with the leader, or a member who can admit members through an NPC secretary or an NPC of the similar job description.

Also, a guard NPC... the ability to climb would allow another player to sneak into a guild house and rob the treasury or do some espionage. Maybe alter some stuff. A guard NPC would be tough and not only had to see you but touch you = (get close enough to see your face) and could turn you in for a fine or seizure of good to the City guards, you also could pay him off (kinda like Fable) Or the guard could beat you senseless and you'd have to answer to the guild or the city guards. Of course, there is always the option of running from town and you'd be an outlaw for a set amount of time. 1 hr or sometime where you can't some back to the city.

Anyway, here are my add-on suggestion.
Nice work dude.

But it wasn't boring. And it's pretty much the same thing, searching for shiny stuff. And it didn't take any brains at all.

agreed... when i was a kid, i loved to dig holes with my brothers anywhere, in our backyard, at the beach... of course we'd always make forts and stuff. sometimes we'd dig to find things and that was the most fun of anything, especially when you find what you were looking for.

Viva la Platinum

you really wouldn't be that bored looking for platinum or something. You'd actually be excited on hitting the jackpot and maybe even try to dig faster, i mean getting a few platinum ores in a row feels kinda nice.

General Discussion / Re: What kind of Guides do you want?
« on: June 04, 2008, 04:02:02 pm »
I twas thinking you set roles for people in the guild. Like the miners, crafters, soldiers, etc. More like a characters skill compared to everyone elses gives them a title and rank among the other guild members so "player1" has really good combat skill, ok crafting, ok magic. "Player2" has medium combat skills, medium crafting skills, and good magic skills. "Player3" has no combat skill, good crafting skills, and no magic skills.
So the ranking would under the combat ranks: Player1, player2, player3. Player 1 would have to title of "head soldier" or something like that.
Crafting ranking would be player3, player2, player1. Player3 would get the title of "head craftsman"
The magic ranking would be player 2, player1, player 3. Player2 would receive the magic title "head mage"

Overall, ranks and titles will be taken by players who exceed the other player in that certain skill. Also an 'overall' best would be implemented by having certain points for ranks and titles. It might be a complex guild system but it let everyone know who was boss in something (uncontested) Also newbie or new guild members could turn to the more experienced players in a certain subject or request assistance from the skilled players in the genre.

What i'd also like to see is Guild types, like Merchant's guild, Warrior's Guild, Mage Guild for those who want to specify in an aspect of the game.

But still... yes i can see the endurance bit but a (80 agility 75 endurance 50 strength) (50 will 50 charisma 70 intelligence) 170 to 205. even if endurance weighed more than the rest. 105pt gap? Anyway the point i was trying to make is that minimal use of mental stamina should be used when doing physical activities.

6
Well... i was kinda hoping, in assassination terms, like back stab and such, that a player could kill a target or just spy. But the main point is that, when ever someone hides in the shadows in real life, it's kinda hard to see them because of the light keeping you from seeing clearly into the dark. So maybe the hide in shadow would only really work from a darker to a lighter area. Like i could sneak up behind an NPC in the sewers if i snuck from a dark corner, but as for lighted places, only from the shadows to someone/thing standing in the light. If i was standing in the shadow as well, i could see you perfectly. But since this is a magical game and not a medieval/materialistic one, maybe turning slightly like your surroundings in a translucent way of hiding. The longer you stand perfectly still, the less threat you will appear as well as the more 'invisible' you will be. So the higher the skill of 'Hide in shadow' the faster you turn 'invisible' and maybe even turn more 'invisible'. NPCs should have something like an attention span, the less intelligent and unsuspecting, the easier the target. Guards and highly perceptive NCPs or player should be able to detect "hiding" players easier. In my final remarks, think something like Assassin's Creed.

My character has 80 agi, 70 int, and 75 endurance. and the rest are at 50. so it shouldn't have been that much of a difference but it about a 105pt gap.

Since when did it takes more brains to swing a pick than muscle. Metal stamina should not even be needed for physical activities and if not, just a little would be used. Only physical stamina is needed. I've swung my share of picks in the real world as well as PS. I've never gotten bored swinging a pick or have actually just swung my pick and let my thoughts wander; but seriously. It should take at least a majority physical stamina rather than 35 mental stamina and only like 20 physical stamina. It should be more like 40 physical stamina and 5 or less mental stamina. Mental stuff is for mental things like spells, crafting, and brain stuff. Physical stamina should be for just physical stuff like mining, running, and fighting. A little mental stamina will be used in physical activities and a little physical stamina will be used in mental activities. That is understandable, but more mental stamina for a no-brainer activity. Come on. :@#\

I was just hypothetically speaking that if a skill was to be chosen to be implemented first, then... i know they're working hard, all the testing, script writing, debugging. It is really hard work. I'd love to get a job with them but i don't have much free time and don't i could apply because of my age (17)... I've only written 2 websites in my life, and only written script for them with links and stuff. But writing game codes in a whole new level of script writing with If <action1> then <reaction1> If <action 2> then <reaction2> and a whole slue of stuff. I really appreciate what they do, it's just i was speaking my mind in a hypothetical situation.

i really don't have that much experience in making websites. I've only made 2 in my lifetime but i can edit and submit stuff. If a PS 'wiki' was added to the official forum then i'd easily submit entries and topics. I'd love to make one if i knew how though.

So about this pswiki.xordan.com... i could add entries? just wondering

Let's hear you opinions on what skills in the 'Various' category should be implemented first and why.

I think that the 'Hide in Shadow' ability should be first since it allows player more advantages against creatures when starting the attack. I think there should be a bonus damage also when attacking when in stealth. Attacking would break the stealth but it'd give you the advantage. Also the 'Backstab' skill would increase this damage.

:devil:Aside from advantages, it would make dark and evil characters more realistic. Some bandit or assassin isn't going to walk up to you and say your money or your life in the real world. They're going to sneak up behind you, put a knife you your throat and take what they want. Simple as that. So that why i think the 'Hide in Shadow' ability should be the first one implemented.

well I see it as just letting people know how to do things that they just don't know about, or can't figure out, or being ignored by annoyed veteran players. Even some experienced players need some guidance when trying to figure stuff out. I, myself when i started, could not for the life of me figure out how to mine. After following another person to a mining place asked and asked what to do and no one would tell me so i just tried loads of stuff. After about an hour of failing, a veteran told me what to mine and how to do it. I had logged off and on about 12 times in that hour because of frustration of not being helped and the inability of figuring it out. I tried the help channel but the advisors were too busy or didn't want to answer a stupid question.
So i think that making a guide would be just fine as long as it showed how but was unspecific and maybe more general. The moderators could edit or delete an entry if they thought it was too specific.

Alright... i've already suggested this in the Forum Issues, but it was recommended here. This will need some touch ups but it's a great format for Planeshift info.
The would be a forum where player could write 'How-To's so other players who don't want to ask dumb questions or if they just want to know how something is done in-game. There'd be a format which players would have to write their 'How-To's or add 'How-To' processes to an already done topic. This would be the 'wiki' of Planeshift. Topics could be removed or edited by moderators at any time. (More specifics at the bottom)

Example:

Topic: How to Mine

Specific Statement: This will guide a player in the act of mining.

Requirements: A pick, a place to mine with available resources, and sufficient mental and physical stamina.

How to:
1) Find a location to mine by asking other players or by finding one yourself. Finding one yourself can be very hard and tedious, and without prior experience, is nearly impossible.
2) When a mine is found, equip the pick in the right hand slot on your character.
3) Dig for the appropriate mineral available by typing /dig iron. You can replace the iron with any other mineral that can be mined.*

Hints and Tips
1) You will not always get the mineral you are trying to mine. In truth, you actually have a low chance of getting the desired mineral on the first try so don't give up. You can raise your chance of getting a mineral by increasing your mining level. Also the more precious the mineral, the less chance you have of obtaining it.
2) You will only be able to mine as much as you can carry and if you go over you will have to get rid of items or the some of the mineral to move again. You can trade though, so if you are planning to sell the minerals, then you can get rid of weight by selling.

(end of example) Ok, as you can see, it will need to be a full 'How-to'. Although this is nice for those who just don't get it, it will need some discretion so that it will still leave fun in finding out some of this to the player. Vague and hints are suggested in the 'How-To' but please make it good enough that it's not just some riddle or that only experienced player know what is being talked about. There are some helpless newbs that need some help but don't want to ask, or are being ignored. So please consider this as a possible forum.

hmm... it seems that a sort of wiki is already started. Although a 'How-to' bit would be nice.
