Title: GM: Please move my character; system crashes on new area entry.
Post by: mish on November 06, 2014, 12:52:30 pm
Good day. Mac OS X 10.6.8 on MBPro 5,5.
Headed out on a quest, got to a splash screen showing a pond to the left, a tree and pastoral setting ahead and a yellow rock to the right. Image comes up for about 6 seconds, then game crashes. Here is the final chunk of the dump from starting with Terminal:

Up to this point, the game has been moderately stable (e.g. only crashing every other attempt ), but now I can't even get in at all.
My request: please pick me up and drop me back in Hydlaa near the fountain or Harnquist. Thanks.
Mish

Hello Mish :-)

What is your character name in game ?
I suppose you thought of it, but let's confirm it : did you tried a clear cache ? And a repair ? (in PS Launcher)

We could moove your character but for that we need you to be online, in game...

PS : Mish, as in "Miska" ?

Hello Mish, to have more success with your request I'd suggest to join Planeshift's IRC channel so you can find a GM there and get his attention.
Look at here: http://www.planeshift.it/IRC (http://www.planeshift.it/IRC)
Join the #planeshift-gmtalk channel and explain your problem.

@Zunna: the player behind Mishka I think has the MishkaL1138 nickname here in the forum.

I apologize for the delay in my response. Got called away on a family issue. Now back.
Name of character is Mishnial Soz.
I have run update, twice and allowed the addition of the Windows specific items ( on a Mac ).
I do not find a tip as to how to "clear the cache".
After all of that , I tried again and the same issue occured - got to the screen I described previously, the little text bar at the bottom reads, "Loading GUI" then crash.
So... I can't get into the game to talk to someone. Thus the request for someone to just plop me down back in the world.
Thanks.

As strange as it sound, running the "update" is useless on MAC. This update window will pop up, again and again.
When you open the launcher, it says "An update to Planeshift is available..." and so on, click > NO.

Instead, click on the tab "Settings" and there you will find at the top, a button called "Clear cache". Do this once.
Once this is done, get back on the main window of the launcher and click on the "Repair" Tab and let the repair run until the end. It may take time so be patient, you will see when it's over.
In the Settings tab, Graphics page, make sure that the Anti-Aliasing is set to "0x".

For your character, GMs cannot moove it if you aren't online, it's impossible. But it shouldn't be a problem. Try what i said above and let's see then, already. Good luck, Mish !

Really? ... I believe to remember that it may be possible to reset a character to the respawn location. That may possibly require a developer with database access; a simple teleport requires to be online, true, but can be handled by GMs of a lower level too.

Seems a GM Leader access was sufficient  :D

My thanks to all.
Now... if I head out that gate again and get to the pond screen and it crashes, what do you folks want to know (dump wise) that I did not share this time.
mish

[BTW: cleared the cache - big button right in the middle of the screen!]

Spoke too soon. No changes. Game still trying to load the "pond" area and then crashes. Quite repeatable. My 'toon' is not in the plaza. Maybe, I just need to completely trash all traces of the game from the machine and reinstall?  m.

Bevore you enter panic mode ... please, first try to discover useful details about your hardware. Most important: Your graphic chipset. Especially intel Integrated Graphic Processors (IGP), like GMA 9xx, are known not to support the required OpenGL functions well, and thus are often rated as "office grade". Even modern intel HD graphic in Core i# CPUs is not doubtlessly recommendable, compared to dedicated Nvidia graphics. Heavily reducing the shader level in the launcher may or may not help. Same for disabling GLSL (already documented elsewhere).

But before trying everything, start with trying to report hardware details.

P.S.: Because I read "CreatePortalWeather" in the error log ... try to disable weather effects.

Thanks - am back in the game.
Changed Graphics: Texture Quality to Medium, was High
Disabled Grass, Weather was already off as was shadows.
Using minimatuux for skin.

The following is probably not of value as I'm back in, but you asked. You get. :D

Strange, Nvidia drivers usually have optimal support. At least for Windows and Linux.

That's a little odd. When you log back in are you in the Death Realm or in Hydlaa?
