An ode to treasure...
« on: October 26, 2006, 02:19:17 am »
Is it so that a pint of ale can ne’er
  Quell the quaking of those pallid lips
I request your teeth serve no barrier
  To my curiosity; I persist
Shameless as darkling gobble hoarding gold
  Will I rest, while the young flame amid
     Serves to compliment your countenance
Hearken will I, if thou permits the tale told
   Not a single syllable be miss’ed;
      My soul permits not this ignorance

So the flame dances on my features cut
   And worn by years of heavy burden
Ah the nights I’ve rested without a shut
   Of eyelids, since fated this curse of kin
Tell me, poet, what does thy soul nurse;
   What love brings twinkle to those em’rald eyes
      And makes sweet moan from within thine breast?
I had a treasure beyond all measures
   Yet it did not allow half the fervent shines
      Jewels had, which my hands reaped from rocky crest

‘Till the radiant azure above descends
   And brings the shade of night as Laanx’ cape
Would I bleed the shaft of an axe crescent
   As claws, intended for harvest and rape
Of the earth so stripped of life and shorn.
   But the fates faltered, and guided my shaft
      To the base of a rune so long renowned;
Be decreed that whoever lucky enough born
   In these realms to find such ore stashed
      Is fated a wealthier treasure be found.

Whim graced these lips you now see tremble
   The desire that wealth met my fam’ly line
And with that wish that rune did kindle
   Like burning ember this artifact shined
My heart soured above in clouds e’er since
   Never more would I be of wealth bereft
      I sojourned back to my dwelling with bliss
When I kissed my sons cheek I sensed
   It rose in a state of ecstatic cleft
     The boy explained he had by fate been kissed

More plat’num on that oak did the boy spill
   Than I had in my life reaped with my axe
T’was joyous occasion for all until
   A group of rogues entered, wily in crafts
Retribution for all that was plundered
   Was the ultimatum brought forth by
      These murderous cowards donned in ebon
Now, after all the blood left that youngster
   Did I realize what faults in my actions lie
       Not from earth came treasure, but from heaven.

Enjoy!

Keep in mind that the first stanza is spoken by the narrator, but the rest of the poem is sung by another man whom the bard has enquired.

Holy crap This breathes. You are ever full of surprises, and you have me beaten. Bravo, Kixie Let me hear more words trickle.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.
