Sorry guys, I was sick and missed the meeting before this one, (Feb 11th) and the one before that one I think I totally spaced that one (Jan 28th) so I don't  have logs for those. But I did find logs for Jan 14th and Dec 10tth I'll post those even though it's a bit late. Slacker. I'm fired.

Talad Says: In the last 2 weeks I worked quite a bit on Unreal Engine
Talad Says: if you go to the calendar youwill see all the events of the live streams
Mordaan Says: I like the updates at the beginning. It can server as a conversation starter.
Talad Says: about 9 days, this one is the 9th
Talad Says: 4-8 hours a day

Talad Says: those are pretty boring anyway if you are not a programmer :)

Talad Says: the first thing we did was to implement the interaction with NPCs

Talad Says: in the test server we have for Unreal engine we have already using a PS database
Mordaan Says: Odd to suddenly have some audio commentary to these meetings. :)
Talad Says: we load the NPCs from the database already
Talad Says: there is one test dermorian female loading in the plaza
Talad Says: so we created a interaction menu, which is pops up when you get close to her

Talad Says: using the same data we have in the PS database
Talad Says: the User Interface for now is very basic
Talad Says: but we care more about the logic for now

Talad Says: and just today we got our first answer back
Talad Says: properly using all the dialogue and natural language parsing used in PS
Talad Says: so most of the dialogue part is ported to UE
Talad Says: the big piece missing in that domain are the quests options
Talad Says: meaning the UI where you select options in the quets
Mordaan Says: right, the menus associated with quests
Talad Says: the User Interface will have to be redone, but we will get good benefits in the remake as we use UE

Talad Says: the next steps are to finish the talk interaction
Talad Says: and allow players to speak with NPCs freely
Talad Says: same as we have in current PS
Talad Says: then I think we will go to port the quest functionalities
Talad Says: which will make it a "game" on UE side
Talad Says: at that point we may think to open it to players to test
Talad Says: its important to remember that everything else is still missing
Talad Says: so there is no combat, no crafting, no spells, ....
Talad Says: but those will follow anyway
Menille says: Are we still a long way off to getting UE4?
Mordaan Says: The other approach would just to just have a world to pop into. Our very first UE demo. Then we can add features one by one.
Talad Says: I think we are still pretty far
Talad Says: but mostly depends on who works on it
Troax says: Will there be 2 servers then? I mean one with the 'old' PS and one with the new UE version under development?
Talad Says: we got some people interested in the live streams im doing
Talad Says: and few may actually help for real

Mordaan Says: Once we get to that point, yes, there would be a eeparate server.
Talad Says: there is people helping me on the code if I ask questions
Talad Says: and one guy which is interested in the art side
Talad Says: and is converting some of our assets from 3dsmax to blender
Talad Says: I would like to abandon 3dsmax completely

Talad Says: but we need more tests on it
Talad Says: the idea is to reuse for now as much as possible from the current PS
Talad Says: and then remake/improve later on
Mordaan Says: At least the test characters run around nicely enough. That's a start.
Talad Says: imagine having current PS in Unreal , and then sttarting to improve each piece
Talad Says: so we can play while we improve it
Talad Says: Im expecting a lot of old players coming back when we launch the unreal version
Talad Says: that's pretty much what we aredoing
Talad Says: another thing we are doing is to move the test server
Talad Says: we have test server where we add content before its released
Talad Says: like new NPC, bosses,....
Gonger says: There are constantly some old players coming back, at least for a while.
Talad Says: we test those there first
Mordaan Says: That's going to help on the dev side tremendously.
Talad Says: we are moving this server to a new one
Talad Says: to have more uptime
Mordaan Says: Not having a test server on demand has slowed things down.

Talad Says: we are encountering some issues at the moment with the installation, but hope to solve it by next week
Silak says: I imagine playing while developing on a wide level, might not scale up in a good way, although it could be a great notion to explore.

Mordaan Says: then we'll have a test server for UE as well (eventually)
Talad Says: on the same machien I think we can have both

Talad Says: Im thinking we could even have the 2 clients (current and UE) working connected to the same server
