Ok, tentatively, I've got July 24 slated for the next event/fair at the Explorers outpost.

Overview:

When: [Saturday, June 26, 2010 ā€“ 2PM ET, 18:00GMT]
Where: Lake of Tears Outpost - Bronze Door Road2

Details:
Time to go back where it all started.  This fair will be about all things crafted.  We will discuss and demonstrate the things that can currently be done with crafting skills along with metal work.  Ever want to break into crafting but didn't know how?  Or want to learn how to make a shield?  Here's your chance.  Learn from the experts and share knowledge about all things crafting related.

Also, merchants and those interested in buying crafted items can gather in the merchant area for an open market.  So merchants, crafting experts, crafting novices, and those interested in a party are all welcome to join in.

Initial itinerary. (times in GMT)
18:00 - Introductions/opening remarks
18:30 - Discussion about crafting and all the things that can be crafted, initial questions and answers.  Also, how much tria can one earn working with metals.
19:00 - Crafting Demonstrations
20:00 - Market (maybe an auction if there is interest)
21:00 - Food & Drinks

Additional ideas welcome!

Contact Mordaan if interested in making a presentation.

General Discussion / [OSP]Crafting Fair [June 26, 2010]
« on: June 01, 2010, 02:57:45 pm »
Ok, here will be the discussion thread of the next fair at the Explorers outpost.  This time we are returning to where it all began...the crafting fair.  Since our first go at this theme, there is now a lot more to craft, so it's well worth a revisit.  So if anyone is interested in learning what one can currently do with this skill and how to get started, be sure to attend.

Topics covered will be weapon crafting, shield crafting, and metalworking.  I would like to have demonstrations by various crafters and already have been in contact with one.  So anyone who has been working on crafting or metalworking, let me know as the date approaches if you will be available to help out.

Also, merchants are welcome to set up shop in the merchant area.  So anyone in need of a crafted item, be sure to stop by.

I'll be working up an itinerary and once that's ready I will make the official post in the In-Game Roleplay Events section.  The target date is June 26.

Further ideas and suggestions are welcome.

General Discussion / [OSP]Botany fair - Discussion
« on: May 05, 2010, 10:31:52 am »
Here is where Iā€™d like to exchange ideas on the proposed botany fair set for May 22.
The official post and details so far are in this thread

My idea so far on a great herb hunt is to have groups (depending on how many participants we have) go and gather a list of herbs and plants (different sets for different groups so their not all competing for the same spawns).  The first group to return and present everything on their list wins.

In-Game Roleplay Events / [OSP] Botany Fair [May 22, 2010]

A fair dedicated to all things related to plants and herbs and how it relates to harvesting, herbalism, alchemy, and even cooking.  There will be discussions of the various plants and herbs and their locations, as well as their use.  We will also have demonstrations on new harvesting techniques.  Cooks are also welcome to discuss how various plants and herbs are used in cooking.  Perhaps some unique dishes can be demonstrated.

There will also be a contest:  the great herb hunt!  [Details to be determined]

So bring your shovels and axes!  Further details to be announced.

OOC:
With recent changes and additions, herbs and plants have taken on new significance.  Hopefully alchemy and herbalism skills are not far behind.  This will be a great chance to gather and share our knowledge in this area.
Join this thread and further discuss your ideas on how we can make this a successful and fun event.

In-Game Roleplay Events / [OSP] Explorers Safari - March 27, 2010
« on: March 04, 2010, 03:37:59 pm »
Overview:

When: Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 2PM ET or 18:00 GMT
Where: Lake of Tears Outpost - Bronze Door Road2

Details:
There have been lots of animal migrations as of late and it seems many new species have arrived from the bronze doors.  So the Explorers Guild, as part of our monthly series of fairs, is hosting the Great Dome Safari.  We'll travel all over the wilderness areas on Bronze Door Road and Ojaveda Road and visit all of these mysterious creatures, including tlokes, arangmas, riverlings, and various new species of trepors, consumers, and ulbernauts.  If the group is large, it's likely inevitable that we will be noticed and attacked at some point so we are looking for fighters and healers to ensure group safety.

The group will meet at the outpost by the Lake of Tears and proceed from there.

OOC:
Lots of new critters have been introduced in the past month...more all the time.  Wondering what is where?  Haven't seen them all yet?  Join the safari and get a close up look at many new habitats.

In-Game Roleplay Events / [OSP]Hunters Fair - [Saturday, February 13, 2010]
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:24:06 pm »
Overview:

When: Saturday, February 13, 2010 - Things will be ongoing but get started around 2PM ET or 20:00 GMT
Where: Lake of Tears Outpost - Bronze Door Road2

Details:
In need of animal parts or hides but just can't do it on your own these days?  Come to the Hunters Fair and join in on group hunts.  We'll discuss the best hunting places where various beasts roam.  Those with a good supply of items are encouraged to sell their goods in case some wish to buy what they need instead.

We will congregate at the Explorers Outpost but anyone can join in wherever the hunt leads.

OOC:
Seems some animal parts are difficult to get these days because mobs have become much more difficult to kill.  So why not take this opportunity to group together to achieve your hunting goals?  Be sure to travel light to avoid long wait times returning from the death realm.   ;)

A discussion thread has been set up for ideas on additional activities.  Comments and suggestions are welcome.

General Discussion / [OSP] Next Lake of Tears Outpost fair - Discussion
« on: January 25, 2010, 03:21:33 pm »
Ok, with 0.5 coming out, the Explorers monthly fair series has skipped December and January is almost done.  So it's time to get started with the series again.  Now we just need some ideas.  There have been a few good suggestions from previous brain storms but I want to find out what the community would like to see this time around.  For a date I am thinking Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010.  But that can be easily moved back if we need more time for planning.  For those of you who haven't been to or heard of one of the previous events, the idea is a community fair with a theme.

Rather than pointing out some ideas for starters, I'm going to start from scratch.  Let's see what we can come up with.   :detective:

General Discussion / [OSP]Antiques Fair - Discussion Thread
« on: November 11, 2009, 11:44:24 am »
There has been renewed talk of a full wipe and for once it seems a majority of the community is in favor of it.  Will it happen?  That hasn't been decided yet.  But perhaps this is a good time to gather and discuss those old and rare items.  You never know, it may be our last chance to do so.

Explorers next fair in our monthly series will be an Antiques Fair, to be held Saturday, November 28, 2009.  The official announcement is here.

So dig into those inventories, check every sack, and prepare to show off those super rare weapons, odd items, and unique glyphs.  I'm sure there are some good stories of adventures behind many of these items.  It also might be a good opportunity to discover what that odd quest item is good for, if anything.

Comments and suggestions are welcome here.  Any ideas on activities?  Perhaps there is some interest in an auction?

Overview:

When: Saturday, November 28, 2009 - 6PM GMT or 2PM ET
Where: Lake of Tears Outpost - Bronze Door Road2

Details:
Have some waybread from way back?  Have a silver falchion you looted from a rat?  Want to show off that super rare glyph? Time to bring out those old rare items and show them off.  There will be plenty of reminiscing about days gone by and I'm sure there are some good stories behind many of these rare items.

So search those inventories [and those mules' inventories  ;) ] to come up with old items that are no longer around, rare weapons, and quest items you just don't know what to do with.

Buying and selling of items is encouraged.  Perhaps we'll even have an auction.  Food and drinks provided by the Stonehead Tavern.

OOC:
With all this talk of a wipe, time to gather and talk about those rare items while we still have them.  It may very well be our last chance.  The idea behind this is a Yliakum version of the Antiques Road Show.

Most of the rare items will likely be weapons since they have widest variation.  But there are plenty of other items I'm sure folks have accumulated over the years.  So long time players (oldbies) are encouraged to attend.

Also, with quest items, I was thinking it would be good to discuss what use they have (if any).

A discussion thread has been set up for ideas on additional activities.  Comments and suggestions are welcome.

In-Game Roleplay Events / [OSP] Poetry Fair - [Saturday, October 24]
« on: October 14, 2009, 03:56:06 pm »
Overview:

When: Saturday, October 24, 2009 - 8PM UTC or 3PM(?) ET
Where: Lake of Tears Outpost - Bronze Door Road2

Details:
Calling all poets!  The Explorers Guild in association with the Octarchal Society for Progress continues it's monthy fair series with a Poetry Fair.  This time we are also joining forces with our good friends at the Red Crystal Den.  This time ideas for activities are simple, we'll just have people read their works.  Although anyone is welcome to attend and read, for those interested in a reading, please inform Mordaan, Aiwendil, or Lhaa in game to get registered.

Catering will be provided by the Stonehead Tavern and a tria bar for drinks will be available courtesy of the Red Crystal Organization.

So get ready for poetry by the camp fire in the wilderness!

[OOC]
We get back on our monthly schedule and this time pick a theme not of in game skills.  After an initial discussion about location we have settled on the Outpost which is by the Lake of Tears on Bronze Door Road2.  Everyone is welcome to attend!
So offer your thoughts here.

edit: updated the information

Ok the Explorers next fair in our monthly series will be a poetry fair, to be held Saturday, October 24, 2009.  This time we are joining forces with fellow OSP members, the Red Crystal Organization.  The official announcement is here.

We have a choice of two venues for the fair, one being the Outpost...where all the fairs have been held.  And the other is the Red Crystal Den.  Each offers some advantages.  The Outpost is where all the fairs are held and reading poetry around the camp fire in the wilderness sounds ideal.  But the Den has a stage and is in a more convenient location.

So thoughts?

Also, who would be interested in attending?

When: Saturday, October 3, 2009 - 6PM GMT or 2PM ET
Where: Lake of Tears Outpost - Bronze Door Road2

Details:
The Explorers Guild continues it's monthly series of fairs, this time with the Cooking Fair. All those skilled in the culinary arts are welcome to display their creations and discuss the art of cooking.  And everyone is invited to join in a celebration of food and cooking.

Activities will include a pie eating contest and a recipe contest.  So start thinking of those interesting recipes and bring the ingredients to the fair so you can make it there.  Credit will be given for creativity and use of a wide range of ingredients.

[OOC]
Cooking seems to be the hot skill in PS now, so this should be a lot of fun.  I am hoping this event will put the cooking skill on full display and demonstrate what can really be done with it.

General Discussion / Cooking Fair - Discussion thread
« on: August 24, 2009, 09:47:05 am »
Ok, we have now had two fairs in our monthly series.  Next up will be the cooking fair.  The date is not yet determined but tentatively I'd say September 26.

The fairs have been nice but I'd say they could be organized a lot better...but I can't do it alone.

So this time I am asking for suggestions from the community.  Cooking has been one of the more "it" skills as of late so I'm sure people have opinions.

So the question is, what do you think would make the ultimate cooking fair?  What would make it the best event it could be?  What activities would you like to see included?

I have been leaving things open to let things unfold as they happen but seems like it would be better to have a set itinerary.  Another question is with cooking might it be better to wait until the next update when we can actually consume these items both ICly and OOCly?  Then again, we don't want to wait forever.   :P

Post your thoughts in this thread.

In-Game Roleplay Events / [OSP] Magic Fair - [Saturday, August 22]

Who: Everyone interested in magic

Details:

The Explorers Guild in association with the Octarchal Society for Progress is holding the second in its monthly series of fairs and celebrations at the Lake of Tears outpost.

This fair is about all things magic.

Ever wonder what glyphs you are missing in your collection?  Ever thought there might be a spell you have the skills to learn but just didn't know what glyphs to use?  Were you ever curious about magic but just didn't know who to ask?

Well, the magic fair is the place to gather with others and discuss all things magic.

Merchants are also welcome to set up shop in our merchant area and sell their glyphs and other magic items.

There will be demonstrations on magic safety, useful spells, and a small tournament at our mini arena (given enough interest).  Food and drinks will be served courtesy of the Stonehead Tavern.

So mages from around the land and all those interested in magic are invited to join the this celebration of magic.
