[OSP] Fish Fry [Saturday, July 24, 2010]

Overview:

When: [Saturday, July 24, 2010 – 2PM ET, 18:00GMT]
Where: Lake of Tears Outpost - Bronze Door Road2

Details:
This time the monthly fair will be about all things fish.  We'll start off with a discussion about fishing spots, the different kinds of fish which populate them and for those that don't already know, how to get started in the area of fishing.

Then we'll have two separate fishing contests.

And finally, with all that fish, what else, a fish fry including tips on how to cook fish and make those excellent fish dishes.

So if you love fish, especially you Enkis, Klyros, and Nolthrir, along with anyone else who likes fish of course, you'll won't want to miss this!

Be sure to bring your fishing poles!

The two fishing contests will be as follows:
One strictly RP'ed using dice rolls to determine outcomes.
And one with actual fishing skills in play.
Details on each will be determined.

Ok, because these things seem to work much better with an itinerary of some sort, here's the itinerary for the fish fry.

[Times are CT (US)  / GMT]
[1 PM / 6PM]
- Gathering around the camp fire - opening remarks
- discussion about fishing
   - different types of fish
   - popular fishing spots

[1:30PM / 6:30PM]
- Contest #1  - The small catch - at the Lake of Tears
    [this will be a strictly RP contest done with "fishing nets" and dice rolls]

[2PM / 7PM]
- Contest #2 - The big catch - begins and ends at the outpost
    [this will be done with game mechanics - contestants will have to catch certain numbers of various fish and return.  A time bonus will be included for certain rare fish].

[3PM / 8PM]
- Fish Fry
    - Demonstration of simple fish dishes at the kitchen area
    - Open fry - everyone tries
    - Fish Feast!  Time to eat the catch.

Thanks to everyone who came.  We had a fun time.  There is still plenty of seared carp and pan fried carp on the picnic table.  Passers by are welcome to help themselves.

Carp was not the only fish we found ... but still the only one to be prepared as meal. (Except for the nameless arena fish.) We all hope that all other fishers and cooks will start to recognise the different fish and will value the rareness and the catching time as well as the unique attributes of some fish which can be caught with much effort.
