"Initializing World" error
« on: June 16, 2003, 08:25:02 pm »
Hello again all, my second post here and its bad news again...

Time of test: 16th of June, 2020 Hours
OS: Windows XP
Processor: P4 1600mhz
RAM: 256mb
Video Card: Onboard Card
Video Card Memory: 8mb
PS Client Version: current
OpenGL or Safe Mode: Safe Mode, and OpenGL
Description of the bug:

As you have already seen, I am having a problem whenver the scenario loader reaches the \"Initializing World\" phase of the startup.  It seems that my game just sits there, not stuck, but performs no actions at all, stuck on the \"Initializing World\" Phase.

Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance,
Torvalds

This is ok. On some machines, Planeshift believes it needs to recalculate the lighting, which can take up to 2 hours the first time you run. If you let it run to completion, it will load quickly every time after that.

the game crashing on initialising world is a very very common problem for many people and seems to be mentioned a few times a day in dif forum sections. The devs have put time into trying to fix this and load times and the game crashing at this point will be fixed for the next release.

however for now all i can say is try the usual things, make it one of the first things run on the computer, have no other programs running, nothing stored in memory to be pasted, check any other advice given in past threads in tech help and bugs on this topic and pray it works.

Hey hey everybody.  I had the exact same problem.  Just let it wait.  Window\'s says its not responding but how much can we trust Microsoft?  I just went to bathroom and did some cleaning and when i came back i was at the plaza.  Itll start responding eventually, dont despair.  (unless you wake up the next morning and it still didnt work, then i have no clue whats wrong.)

Everytime I wait for the Initialising Part it stays for a while..So then I made some lunch and watched TV, it finally loaded up in the palace, I tried to move then it froze right away. I restarted it, someone said once it loads it doesn\'t take as long after that, but I tried again and it\'s taking forever.

me too.. i really want to play but i don\'t know why, first of all i thought it was my pc that isn\'t very new, p3 733 128 ram and 64 mb video card, but i\'m seeing that is a common problem also for a p4...
anyone could know why?

You really need at least 256MB RAM to play this.  Anything less is going to be unplayably slow even after you connect successflly.

As far as the long loading times go, it should take under a minute for a modern computer to load it in.  Adjust that number upward more depending on how slow your computer is compared to a modern one.

I have heard about these multi-hour load times and it just doesn\'t make sense to me.  Can someone post more details about this, or launch with -console command line option on their client and tell me what it is saying during that 2 hour period?

Thanks,
-Vengeance
