WISHLIST RULES - Absolutely MUST read!
« on: August 07, 2009, 12:20:55 am »
Welcome to the Wishlist! Use it to suggest unique and fun gameplay ideas and help make PS a better game. Please follow these rules to keep this forum board organized and friendly:

When To Post

The Wish List is a discussion forum to come up with good ideas that we may eventually want to use in the game.  You are highly encouraged to speak your mind here, however the board does tend to get quite a bit of spam from people who think they're contributing, but are most certainly not.  Please, only post if one of the following applies to you:

  • A new idea that could be used in the game mechanics
  • A variation on an old idea that could be applied (preferably in a unique way)
  • Comments on a current idea and how you think it could be changed

and only if NONE of the following apply:

  • You have been playing PS for less than a week
  • You have not read the players guide, or the rest of the wishlist rules below
  • You just want to agree or disagree with a post
  • You are mad at something which you personally do not like
  • You want to suggest things that are in completed games and are just not here yet, or anything else in violation of the guidelines below

Posting Guidelines

  • MOST IMPORTANT RULE: There is no point to posting a laundry list.  If all you are posting is a list of things you want, you are not making a useful contribution. POST ONE IDEA FOR EACH THREAD with a proper thread title.

-- The wish list is for people to discuss ideas, not post lists of random things you'd eventually like to see in the game.  ALL of your ideas should take at least a paragraph to explain, otherwise they are so simple that they have a 100% chance of being suggested in the past.  If your post spans multiple unrelated topics, chances are you shouldn't be posting at all.

  • Be open and positive when discussing other's ideas on this forum

-- If you think an idea is impossible or unreasonable, instead of listing reasons why it can't be done, list ways it can be accomplished. Try to be positive to other's ideas and make those trasform into something more doable.

  • Familiarize yourself with PlaneShift's setting, goals, and current features.

-- Making a wish that discusses a hack-and-slash leveling system, or asking for an offline messaging tool, or requesting an /ignore command (it already exists!), will make you look silly. Do your research before contributing and understand the aims of the PlaneShift project.

  • Never suggest anything obvious - torches, maps, in-game mailing systems, etc.

-- Chances are if it took you less than a minute to think of, it's been thought of hundreds of times before.
Do keep in mind that PlaneShift has been in development for 6-7 years now, so you are not the only one with the brilliant suggestion of "faster transportation" or "compass". Try to offer us unique and different ideas that would improve your PlaneShift experience, instead of asking for things that you know will be put in the game eventually, like more skins and the rest of the character models.

  • Please SEARCH first. if an idea has already been proposed, a duplicate thread (that discusses the same idea again) will be deleted.

-- We want to keep this section organized and make it easy to look through.
As the Wishlist will fill up with threads, you are highly encouraged to search and see if your suggestion has already been made. If you want to propose a variation of some idea or concept, you're free to make a new thread - but only if it is such a different variation that it's almost like a spin-off. All ideas evolve through discussions, so don't make a new thread unless absolutely necessary.

  • Do not revive old threads unless you have something useful and new to say.

-- When you search for previous ideas and find something you like, don't work necromancy on the thread just to add a "This is a cool idea!" or "I agree!" Read the entire thread first, and then if you still have something to say that hasn't been said already, feel free to post. But not until then.

  • Be careful to suggest things just because they're in another game.

-- PlaneShift intends to be a unique game, and while we'll obviously have some things that have been done before, that doesn't mean we're just going to steal stuff from other games.  Try to be original. If there is some feature you'd like to talk about that's from another game, please state detailed reasons why it would be good to borrow.

The 'Why' Rule

Every time you want something, every time you wish for something and every time you state something, we will demand a "because". We will demand that people reason for their requests, and tell us all WHY they want this or that. So threads that hold a reason for a request will be let alone, and threads that do not will be gone. As for posts made inside threads, we encourage others to ask the WHY question as well, as it will make wishes much more colorfull, instead of the "I want uba swards", "I want maps", "I want spells" and "I tink ps sux" (loophole warning; you can't make a thread saying "I tink ps sux because this n dat isnt in it". That'll be deleted anyway.)

The reason must be a valid one, so not because you think the idea is cool, but something else. If you can't think of a reason other than "because it's a cool idea I'd like to see in PS", then you actually haven't included half of what it's really about anyway.

In short: Be descriptive when you deal with the WHY rule.

We read and take note of all of the suggestions, but we will not be able to reply to all of the threads in this forum. Even though your ideas may be impossible, difficult, or impractical, we want to hear them, and we appreciate all the suggestions you share with us.
