Yes, the official "world" is hosted on only one (1) server and this has a well thought reason:

There are only a few developers for this game and each additional task (server maintenance is one) would delay game development.
Nobody want's this :)

If more people would ask: "What can I do to help?", maybe than we would have a better chance ;)

Have a look into your PlaneShift Crystal Blue\data\options folder
There is a file named chatbubbles.xml

As far I understood it not each Guild is a PvP guild. [Or do you think the Swiss Guard is fighting wars for the pope? :)]

The last event they guarded was the "Royal Ball" and several guilds joined to the "Guard of Honour". I case of trouble several people, me too, would interact. ;)

I'm so exited and there was a lot of work this week ... the most dangerous week in my life, cause I learned dancing. For safety reasons my girlfriend wears chainmail shoes.

There will be a guild called "Royal Event Guard", where you are asked to give your weapons out of your hands. [Just RP. Not really].

Thanks a lot to the officers, who helped organizing and the participating guards in this small part, we where allowed to realize.

Forum and Website Discussions / Re: Evaluating PS by votings?
« on: July 06, 2007, 02:07:13 am »
The thing is, polls don't actually make good use for fact finding.  They are very group selective and can be easily misguided by use of words for options listed as choices, or the same person voting multiple times.  Sorry, statistics class seeping through.  :)

And a question for you then.  Take a look at the wishlist area.  2600+ threads.  You consider that the devs "are not interested in a representative opinion of the players?"
No, I dont think that devs are not interested in opinions :)
But wouldn't it be eaysier to collect the 2600+ threads into a few dozen votings? That's the goal! To reduce overhead and collect the gathered information into a "final" voting :)
You are right, that the "choice of words" is important. That's why I'm asked to allow voting-definition only to well choosen moderators.
To prevent multiple votings there are technical enhancements (Access only to higher "Post count based groups") to prevent this.

A voting over “Chatbubbles” was only a very special example.

But, do I understand this however correctly? You are not interested in a representative opinion of the players? ;)

I can quite imagine that this way would give some interesting information about, whether it is worth the work and spending a lot of time on certain things to develop.
I didn't say, that the information got by voting is the one and only one, which decides the future of PS. It's just another brick in the wall.
Representative evaluation is one goal of project management. Isn't PS-development a complex project?
Aren't there any things the developers want to know, wht the player are thinking about? If "no": Why? Are there other ways of evaluating PS's success?

Wouldn't it be usefull to have an own "Votings"-board below General Discussion, where players are able to vote about things  like  "Items you'd like to see"?

The difficulty will be to get quaiity based questions and results, cause we have several views of:
  • Different types of Devs
  • Different types of Players
  • People, aren't knowing what they are doing here :)
so it should (maybe) be strictly moderated with e.g.
  • setting "Reply only" to "On" by board defintion
  • Queuing vote requests in a single thread
  • Access only to higher "Post count based groups"

What is the sence of this?
The primary goal is not to answer players questions, but to give Devs a better and faster notion about what players want to have.

These are only a few ideas. On suggestions I am curious. :)

Wish list / Re: Dialog Window Tabs needs reorder?
« on: July 04, 2007, 01:34:52 pm »
Quantus, you won't make everyone happy this way. You basically ask for another tab you can customize as you wish, but with a name, which makes some people think you want there stuff everyone see worldwide ;P
No, I'm not asking for a seperate Tab, wich can be customised.
I'm asking for a seperete Tab, where the RP takes part. Farren got it nearly described.
NPC's are having an own Tab. Tells, Guilds, Groups and so on too, but the main intention of PS is to make RP as easy as possiible and therefore is no own Tab.
Either you do it in the way as Farren and switch all messages to "Off".

Today I'm switching all to "On", when I'm playing "normal" and all to "Off", when I'm RPing.

It is kind of funny, I spend most of my time staring at the system tab because I want to see when to start digging again, when to switch weapons and such. It is only when I am standing around and gabbing, not too often, that I watch main.
Exactly that's what I'm doing too.

But you don't explain what would be in Public and Global and why it is that needed. I gues you need to spend more time on explaining why.
Public: /say, /shout, /me, /my, /greet and the other emotions
Global: All what is set in Options to "On"

I thought, that was selfexplaining ;)

The reason why?
It's not a well readable "Main", if you have set to much channels to display here.

« on: July 04, 2007, 08:24:17 am »
The current "Dialog Window" has following "Tabs":
Main | NPC | Tell | Guild | Group | Auction | System | Help

wouldn't it be usefull to split the Main into Global and Public like
Global | Public | NPC | Tell | Guild | Group | Auction | System | Help

cause either:
  • To much infromation is spooled in the Main Tab
  • Or, if you switch off the appearnace of this info in Main (via Options) you have to toggle often between Tabs
  • You have to scroll a lot
But all in common: You are slowed down in RP-performace. Aren't you?

As a reminder:

Complaint Department / Re: Continuing Date & Time?
« on: July 03, 2007, 05:35:14 am »
I think date will play a stronger role when the game is in a far more complete state :)
Sure, I know that the game is in an early release and that an InGame calendar hasn't high priority.

Quote
We'll probably be stuck around 750 for a while, because it makes no sense for time to pass when features are missing and whole areas are unavailable.
I hope this is a techical view? For RP reasons there is no real dependency between time and locations. Is it?
Maybe this is the reason?:
Quote
There is a lot of story planned that needs dates and times working, but most of all needs those features and areas.

Quote
So for now, this is probably the lowest priority for the dev team.
I assumed nothing other and didn't expect that date/time has the (tm) "soon" :)

My post was just a collection of "facts". Is this point of view, regarding date and time calculation, stable and correct?

Complaint Department / Continuing Date & Time?
« on: July 02, 2007, 02:09:51 pm »
Time measurement InGame is six times faster than in RealLife.

InGameRealLife
1 hour10 minutes
6 hour1 hour
1 day4 hours
6 days1 day

But how many days has a week?
Does it have 6 days? That would be easy for calculation cause it is a day in RL.

How long is a month?
Each month (IG) has 32 days.

How long is a year?
An InGame year has 10 month and each month 32 days. So, a year has 320 days.
This corresponds to 53 1/3 days RL. A year (RL) has nearly 7 years (IG) (365*6/320=6,84375).

But:
Each Char is created in year 750 and no increase of dates occurs.

Maybe a Voting (Poll) would be nice like:
Quote
Do we need to measure Date and Time?
Yes
No
Only time
Only date
No opinion
