General Discussion / Pre-emptive Goodbye

I dont believe ill be here much longer in the community, in the context of Bigfoot (although if not as Bigfoot then id rather be nothing at all). I feel the noose tightning even now as i type this out.
Id just like to say its been an interesting 3 or is it 4 years, on again and off again within the forums and Team. And ive enjoyed being here with the vast majority of you, yes even Link.
Now here is a Current and sort of suedo predictive review of planeshift as it currently is, and if the game continues on is current development path, as it will be.

Bigfoots departing Predictive Score for Planeshift is: -

Moody and atmospheric, and of good quality given the volunteer nature of the games origin. However the environments are rather to \"by the book\". Character race designs are also unfortunately to cliche, Dwarves elves and human dirivatives and catpeople, we\'ve seen em before and they dont realy push the buttons no more. But there are a few nice surprises such as the Kran and Krylos.
The Worlds background and premiss of being an underground empire has unfortunately not been exploited enough within its environmental designs.
Mobs are also rather standard MMORPG faire.
Polygon counts seem a little higher than the current standard, players with older system might not faire well with this, and an apparent lack of an adjustable clipping plane, there might be one there (had to fit it in somewhere ) seems to put undue pressure even on my system.
but over all a good effort.

This is where Planshift seems to shine its best, an original Score of high quality with its own unique feel and attitude, if the visuals dont make you think your underground the soundtrack will.
Gameplay 6
Rather stock standard MMORPG fair here folks, Swashbuckling and Spell slinging, at its core. as the saying goes a rose is a rose, nothing to write home about but it works.
There are a few interesting additons however such as a neat character starting history that allows you to purchase items, money, gold and special skills at creation with a limit amount of points (is that still in the MB demo?), along with purchasing negative aspects such as being crippled, blind and so forth to gain extra purchase points, good actions vs reward.
As with a number of other commercial MMORPG\'s out there cosmopolitin approach to Racial interaction leads to rather lack luster background history for the world, often to justify the omission of a PvP system, while interesting the back story just doesnt have any bite, soon the player gets into the old its us vs the Machine mentality, item farming, macroing and Lw3t hordeing, as there is little in the world to get the player interested in pre-history, so it gets glossed over.
System Specs are a little bit of a sore point, and Bugs are all to common, although not as bad as Anarchy Online was in its release. One aspect of this could be that during early development the Team was produceing and consentrating on to many tech demos to show the user base, long before the client and graphic engine was in anyway complete or stable, it would have been best to focus on the end product rather than leap frog there way to the end. However in a volunter based project it possable went to there benefit.
Given its draw backs it works. Things can only get better with future PS expansions.
Overall 7/10
A good and solid MMORPG outting, for those that are new to the genre, although those who have played the likes of EverQuest, Star Wars galaxies, Dark ages of Camelot, Anarchy Online and such who want a new and fresh outting will find them selves a little bit too much at home.

Ill leave this post with this...
Improvemnt rides on the back of sincere critisim. Good ideas are tempered into great ideas with the hammering of many minds.
Good buy and good luck.
