Mounts?
« on: June 03, 2003, 04:52:18 pm »
Havent seen much about this except the skill in character creation?

Anyone have details about the skill itself?

Any ideas of possible mounts?

Thanks for reading!

i think he means to do with riding animals, if so this is a large quote from the website.

\'\'Travel

 The Slow Way

Long stairs that wind on the walls or corridors dug in the rock connect every adjacent level. Most citizens walk from level to level, even though such a trip is very tiring, especially when going uphill with a load of goods. Because of this, wide landings were built where they can lay down their loads and rest.

 The Merchandising Way

Because walking is so slow and cumbersome, an ingenious system of pulleys, wheels, and spider silk ropes was devised. These silk ropes attach to either people or goods and are then lifted up. The winches are privately owned, however, so generally they only belong to the mercantile society, and their use is allowed only after a fee is paid to the society, which varies according to the quality of the winch.

 The Elite Way

The fastest way of getting over remarkable distances in a short time is using flying animals: Pterosaurs and Megaras.

  Flying Animals

 Pterosaurs

The Pterosaurs are reptiles with organs adapted to flight, such as their membranous wings and long tails, which they use as a rudder. The Pterosaurs\' dimensions vary from three to six meters, not including their tails, and their wingspan is directly proportionate to their bodies. From the moment they are born, Pterosaurs begin training to carry a person sitting in a saddle buckled between the animal\'s shoulder blades. Pterosaurs must be at least three years old and fully trained before they can actually carry a person, which makes them precious, coveted, and very expensive to keep. Only extremely wealthy people can afford these lizards, but no matter how wealthy a family is they may only legally own a single Pterosaur. The law forbids owning more than one of these animals in order to avoid dangerously crowding the limited air space.

 Megaras

The second flying animal is the Megaras, which is similar to a giant bat. Scientists believe the Crystal has genetically mutated the Megaras, since they reproduce only in Yliakum. These bat-like creatures are not as docile as the Pterosaurs, but they are stronger and more efficient, making them perfect to carry heavy but not too delicate loads, such as food and building materials. As with the Pterosaurs, each mercantile society is allowed to own only one Megaras.

Thank you. (I\'d read the whole thing about traveling before, but since english is not my native language i didn\'t understand what the word meant.) And instead of asking stupid questions i could have checked a dictionary. Mounts in this context means getting on the back of a pterosaur or a megaras right ? Thx anyway.

I like the idea of specialising a whole lot of things on riding. I think it should become a sort of \"skill tree\" on its own. Altghough we don\'t work with skill tree\'s, it\'s just a term i used to make myself more clear. There should be a whole lotta things you should be able to train. Your own riding expertise (handling the animal, manouvering, etc...) and training the animal itself (strength, velocity, endurance,etc...)

DizzleCorinthos: do you have any ideas on how you\'d like to see mounts handled ? I\'m interested in what you think about this. The idea came from you after all :o)

It will be rather easy to ride a land-animal. But flying a winged creature will take skill and time.

if I\'m understanding right, anyone will be able to use mounts because it\'s a skill based game(i.e no classes, so specifically no fighters), if you put points into the proper skill, you can ride an animal, doesn\'t have anything to do with you being a fighter...

however, in order to \"own\" a mount, yes, I think you should have to have points in taming, at least enough that your character can make the animal think you\'re it\'s friend

Johnny Depp\'s a poser to the throne. No one will ever play the part as well as Gene Wilder

The Riding winged creature skill is the only one associated with mounts at the moment, but I wonder if they won\'t change it so it would include land based mounts, or add an entirely new skill...

Everybody with a mount skill will probably be able to ride an animal, only that mounting a flying animal will be just as hard as flying an airplane in real life, takes time and effort.
BUT, only animal tamers, people with the taming skill, dont think its been implented yet, will be able to tame animals. High level in taming means bigger and better animals..

There should be horses if you got da skill. You should steer it as you were walking but it goes faster... click run and i goes VERY fast. And the knights should have mount skill automatically.

I would like to see NPC-stables spread all across the land. That way you can go from one end of the world to another, much faster. This could be a pay-to-use service, or perhaps there should be a level requirment?
