Complaint Department / Re: The NPC Issue.
« on: December 16, 2013, 08:30:38 pm »
NPCs falling off the map is much more rare these days. The last several times players have asked about an NPC being off the map the NPC was on the map and either available in a place the player hadn't looked or at home at their regular time. I believe that the falling off the map issue is very rare these days

General Discussion / Re: Two quests that don't work for me

It appears that some changes to quest chains got uploaded and the server so the issue with not getting the quest form Meoeor is one with needing to do the previous quests in the quest chain.

Look at your completed quests. When the new quest system was introduced with the 0.5.0 client all quests were wiped so if you have no completed quests then you will have to request in order to get a pet again. And the command to summon your first pet is /pet 0, summon so if you still have the completed quest showing then try using pet 0

Wish list / Re: Playing the Guard
« on: October 19, 2013, 03:04:07 pm »
As far as I know there has never been a case of a character being put on trial without the consent f the character. The reality is trials are a pain since they require a lot of resources to  to so they aren't done often. Yes characters have been sent to jail against their will before. This is normally due to the character not listening to the GM guard or trying to intentionally ignore the GM guard in an OOC fashion. In these cases we normally send the character to jail so we can talk to the player in private in an OOC manner so we can find out what their issue is and help them understand the need to remain IC.

When people are send to jail for RP reasons then yes the settings are that they can't escape from jail and that the player can't exploit mechanics, like killing themselves to escape to the DR in order to get out of jail. If players don't want to go along with the no jail break settings then they should avoid being sent to jail in the first place.

The Octarchal decree states the law of not impersonating a guard or government official. So if there is someone running around RP'ing that they are part of the guards or a government official then they would be subject to IC punishment under the decree. We have had problems of players pretending to be government officials in order to cause abuse. The most memorable one I can think of being a certain group of players who called their guild the Hydlaa Tax collectors in order to confront players about over due tax payments. Luckily this was caught fairly quickly and dealt with by the Gms and this is an example of potential abuse that can be caused by people pretending to be a guard or government official.

There could certainly be something like a citizens patrol or watch that would let regular characters watch against or try to prevent crimes and should have enough separation form guards so that people wouldn't be confused about the roles people are playing and thus avoid potential abuse.

From your list of quests it looks like you should have only had one skill book. The book for herbalism. Since you hadn't even finished that quest I discarded the herbalism quest for you so you could start it again. The only two smithing type quests I saw listed for you was the intro to crafting and Harnquist needs raw materials and neither of those quests award a skill book for smithing.

General Discussion / Re: Re: Ideas for Events
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:45:25 am »
Volki re the GM event you talked about above. The event didn't run on for so long because there was a predetermined outcome that the GMs were trying to achieve. The event ran on for so long because the players involved couldn't decide which of the two characters to believe and thus couldn't come up with a course of action that the majority of the players could agree upon. Yes the GMs were trying to get the majority of the players in the event to side with their character and thus come to a conclusion that was best for their character in the event. The only "problem" with the event was that the players were pretty much evenly split on which GM character was telling the truth so the players couldn't come up with a course of action. When GM events are developed there are several possible outcomes that are considered and outlined based on different actions the players might take. There is no set determination that a GM event has to end in a certain way.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Graphics Question
« on: February 11, 2013, 08:22:37 am »
I know every once in a great while I'll get a situation where it is totally black in a tunnel. By adjusting the in game brightness up, or down, the situation is normally fixes. Depending on what type of Mac you are playing on you might have to go to your options menu and under control keys find brightness up and down keys and set them to different keys.

That is the location of fils the game creates such as the location of your chat logs, or any in game books you may create and save

You need to drag the Planeshift folder from the dmg into your application folder and then run the game from your application folder. Since the dmg is a read only hard drive image you can't update when you are running from the folder on the dmg file.

If players have ideas for events they are always welcome to contact a GM to talk about their idea. It can be for a player event that will be open to everyone that might need some GM support or a suggestion for a GM event.  Either talking to us in game via tells or group or on IRC are probably the easiest methods or via pm here on the forum.

For GM events the more flushed out the idea the better. For GM events we have a template for outlining the event proposal. The template includes.

estimate of event duration

number of GMs that will be needed

number of GM organizers - some events may need 1 or more gms to do things to help run the event that doesn't involve running a character in the event.

Overview of the event - We don't need every detail but just the general outline of the event.

Setting - This would include the locations where segments of the event might happen

Players - The type of player the event would appeal to.Is it an event for lawful characters or unlawful characters, would it mostly appeal to followers of a certain god or goddess or is it an event any type of player could take part in

Characters - A list of the GM run NPCs The list would include regular NPCs which would need impersonations for ( like Harnquist, Trasok Allelia etc) and event specific characters that a GM would have to run. For event specific characters you probably want to include some additional information like race, description, outline of personality or motivation etc/

Items - Any specific items that would be needed for the event, maybe a description of a set that might be needed ( like the event may need a merchant stall et up some place for example)

Rewards - Suggestions for rewards for all of the people taking part and any special rewards for people who demonstrate outstanding RP during the event.

These are the items on the template for a GM submitted event. Your event overview might want to include outlines for alternative endings to anticipate different directions players might go in the event.

Wish list / Re: Get rid of guildhouse keys
« on: January 05, 2013, 08:31:11 pm »
Just as an FYI the museum is always unlocked so no current issue with it. Well except for when trying to leave the museum you almost always have to log out and then back in after using the exit icon since due to the high number of items in the house the client doesn't update your position once you leave. Once you log out and back in though server and client re sync your position properly outside of the house.
