Nvidia drivers

The nvidia drivers are a little odd. Any chipset gforce2 and earlier requires the legacy driver stream, the integrated (at least, and possibly all) GeF3&4 require the 96xx series or less full driver available by clicking on the archive link however by trying them with my integrated GeF4 I discovered that the most recent usable one is the 8776 driver any newer and I get nothing but black screen.  I was happily using the legacy driver but updating yesterday my distro broke something. It was probably the X files that got updated. After some experimentation I am back using the 8776 full driver and expect to never use another unless I put an actual card in the machine.

PLEASE NOTE: I am talking about x86 drivers for linux and know nothing about the 64 bit or others listed on that page.
