System Stats
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:48:43 am »
What are your system stats? Specifically how much ram do you have and what graphics card and ram on it do you have? How well does PlaneShift run on your machine? Due to low ram or low video ram do you have to use certain tweaks to get the game running? Post any info here to answer the above. This info does have a use even if it does not seem it does you to.

Intel Macintosh Mini G4, 10.5.2, 1 Gig RAM. PlaneShift runs great, no problems. But I do not have sound turned on, never have. Installer works well, no permissions issues on install. I can have two instances open with no lag after initial loading.

Win XP Pro SP3
Intel 2.8 Duo Core
4GB RAM
ATI Radeon X600 SE w/ 128MB RAM (note, this is a sub-par Gfx card, Shader 2, low memory)
Tweaks: Vertex off, Shadows off, Labels are kept at mouseover unless confronted with a place with many objects or people.  The only other tweak is changing OpenAL to Software in psclient.cfg line 53 to get sound to work.

The game runs fine in 1024 x 768.  At 800 x 600 I can get 3 clients going, but that's just because of the fat system memory, and at that point the CPU is really working at or near 100%.

- System -
OS: Win XP
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz - 8MB L2
Memory: Kingston Hyper-X 2GB DDR2 800MHz CL4
GPU: Asus GeForce 8800 GTS (core 500MHz /shader 1200MHz)
Graphics Memory: 320MB/320-bit DDR3 (800MHz)

- PS -
Screen resolution: 1680x1050 32bit fullscreen

Enable sound: off
Font scaling: 100%

Vertex buffer object: default
Stencil threshold: 50
Load all maps: off
Keep maps loaded: off
Preload models: off
Skin: custom

Multisampling: 8
Anisotropy filtering: 16.0
Multisample for quality: on
Texture downsampling: 1/1

Adaptive distance: off
Shadows: on

Runs without serious problems. There's some lag when traveling to a new area, but once loaded, runs at 60+ fps. Notable screen tearing during fast movement, capping FPS ingame doesn't seem to help.

*edit*

Here's also my old machine's stats, I can remember them fairly well.

- System -
OS: Win XP
CPU: AMD Athlon 1700+ 1,46 GHz
Memory: 768MB DDR 133MHz
GPU: GeForce 5200FX AGP 8x
Graphics Memory: 128MB/64bit DDR

- PS -
Screen resolution: 800x600 32bit windowed

Enable sound: off
Font scaling: 100%

Vertex buffer object: default
Stencil threshold: 50
Load all maps: off
Keep maps loaded: off
Preload models: off
Skin: default

Multisampling: 0
Anisotropy filtering: 1.0
Multisample for quality: off
Texture downsampling: 1/1

Adaptive distance: on (can't remember distance, probably default)
Shadows: off (wasn't available yet)

Had to lower the graphics quality a bit, but still very playable. Actually this is the setup I played most with. Nowadays I'm just testing stuff.

I have run on 4 systems... with varying degrees of playability. Across all systems I generally turn sounds off, and even still it blocks my sound card... and I get lag when I am in a fight too long or play too long (generating too many sound actions) while playing music continuously on my system. This is across all 4 systems I play from.

System1 (must run with 1024x768 or smaller video, play for less than 1 hour at a time, and turn off all other applications or risk turning my laptop into a RL slag):

3GHz Intel P4 Laptop
1GB RAM
32-bit Linux and PS client
nvidia GeForceGo 64MB (don't remember what model)

System2:

Athlon64 3200 Desktop
2.5GB RAM
64-bit Linux and PS client
nVidia GeForce 6200 128MB (Was a little choppy with graphics at 1280x1024 on occassion, but may have been due to swap being used)
nVidia GeForce 8600 256MB (Ran smooth unless swap was being used, or troublesome maps were being traversed... similar to those being reported with new releases)

System3 (occasional hiccups in certain maps, but only really stutters when I have two or more clients running simultaneously):

Athlon64 Phenom 9600
4 GB RAM
64-bit Linux and PS client
nVidia GeForce 8600 256MB

System4 (occasional hiccups in certain maps):

Intel Core2 Duo 3.16 GHz
4GB RAM
64-bit Linux and PS client
nVidia NVS 290 256MB

Why creating a duplicate topic instead of reviving one (that was made for exactly that (or maybe not)):

I wouldn't wonder if people consider not to repeat themself. But yeah,.. Of course, it's simpler to just ask again.

*shrugs and picks some more 'performance info'*

CPU: Intel E8400
RAM: 4GB
GPU: NVidia GForce 9600GT (512MB? I forgot...)

OS: Opensuse 11.1 (Thus Linux)

Planeshift runs just fine  :)

A word about RAM: I don't keep maps loaded, and at least with this setting I never saw RAM usage >3GB (normally it's only 2)

#EDIT# Planeshift runs just fine with a self compiled client - the official suffers of course of the getting stuck in the landscape, but runs fine for the rest, too.

OS: Debian linux 32Bit

I had some troubles with random crashes, but after disabling shadows and sound, everything runs fine

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
2 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7600S 512MB RAM
Debian Lenny 32 bit

not considering the crasings introduced by the newest releases, not much problem. Strangely there are places where lagging starts, for example in the sewers at the 3 NPCs in a group.

iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz
1 GB RAM
RadeonX1600 128 MB
OSX 10.4.11

I made the fixes for texture compression and x1600 card.
Some areas in Hydlaa are totally black, as known.
In Ojaveda after fighting with rats the game becomes very slow (more than FPS I should talk of SPF...), I have to restart the client.

Thought you might appreciate some stats from someone who barely understand what 'stats' are. So the lower level non-techies get some representation in the 'i can't believe someone actually uses a computer like that!" category.

Dell Computer
Pentium 4 CPU
2.53GHz 768 MB of RAM

Windows version 5.1 (service pack 2)
(C) 1981-2001

After the PS upgrade in late Oct '08 I couldn't get back in the game at all for a month. Every time I launched the client, i got the Blue Screen of Death. I went on the forums, and did bug tracker~ Bug tracker answer was "its not a bug" which I guess is true, it wasn't a bug in PS but is sure was a bug in my Windows program.

I hung out on the MIRC and Pizik helped me for over an hour one night (thanks again Pizik!) to load a different and newer driver, but that didn't help. Finally on my own I went to the PSclient.exe file, to the compatability window and set the 'run this program with windows 2000' and was finally able to play again. Altho' I don't get any of the cool, newer graphics all you wonderful devs and programmers are making, and everythings really dark much the time, altho I did set the full bright control. But at least I get to play!

So it took about a month, maybe 6 weeks for me to be able to play at all again , like it was early December when I got back in. And I really really missed playing! You guys have got me addicted! Good work. ;D

Thanks for incorporating this info in your work.
