Beta/alpha definition of the word \"soon\" c.
Soon is sometime before never, but longer than 20 minutes from now. Operatively, normally more than two weeks, but less than five years...give or take a month.

AKA probably NOT today...but then again...maybe it could be.

Solthor= Sol(sun) Thor(Norse god of thunder). And I didn\'t even have to google that one up.

There are reasons to have a name that has a meaning, and I had felt that having a name that means the direct opposite of what you currently are or are like in personality, appearance or dispossion was ironic, but I now understand the \"magic\" behind it. If you claim something often enough, slowly you become it. Sometimes it works, but I have met a few Melody\'s that could NOT hold a tune in a hermetically(air tight) sealed golden bucket, not sure magic would have helped either.

And I have met a Raven or two that was a blue eyed blonde that wore alot of grey...*shrug* or a Jade with blue eyes from England. *shrug* but oddly both names moods fit them(Raven was very Edgar Allen Poe ish, and Jade was serene and tranquil). *shrugs again*

if oyu have trouble thinking of a name, theres the name generator in the character creation section, handy that, no one sees it though.

also you could ask many of the people who have unique names, or maybe someone who has been renamed already, i can think of plenty of names :)

personally i prefer a name that has no meaning to it at all, and if it does i dont know about it :)

Demarthl for instance, just slapped a few letters together, same with Za\'ek, Pirakika, Kronxek, Solthor... many many names :)

One name I know of that uses the descriptor rules is Bohan, OR Bohand (as it was several hundred years ago), OR Bowman (which gives the whole meaning away). Archer, Taylor, etc.

There is also a LONG line of names that use descriptions of either the baby in question OR where that family lived in naming the child, using older English than we use...of course. But I have to say that they are lovely names how ever they came up with them.

I still like how the Native Americans came up with names. Many tribes had naming rules where you had TWO names in one life time, your born name and your earned name. The born name could be what your mother saw either shortly after she knew she was pregnant or what she saw shortly after birth or shortly before (Two elks, running bear, little foot for a breech baby that lived). And earned name was a title you EARNED, Eagles Cry (your war cry sounds like an eagle\'s cry, OR you just happen to call out your war cry exactly when an eagle crys on too many occassions to discount it), Silver wolf (the creature you met on your spirit journey), Little calling dove (more than likely the name of a rather soft spoken female of less than remarkable looks, but nice dispossion).

With Native American type naming, numbers written out might ALSO come into play, IE nine toes, eleven fingers (Ugh, not a nice story, but more than likely if your tribe was warlike...you would NOT be messed with often!), or Two Hawks (I actually met a guy by this name, his pet name was Hawks, this was his born name, but when he went on his spirit journey...guess who he met...yep, same two hawks...so some born names just might stick).

I would not be TOO disrupted RP wise with a name of an ancient (or recently revived) cultures god/dess, but a name like Billbo, or Lllegoless or fill in the plagerized rarely lived up to book/movie/other games NPC lore character would most likely make me...and many others GAG.

In regards to using numbers in names... Actually, in at least one language I\'m aware of, it does happen... Japanese.

Several japanese names use \"one\" in them, in various ways - the best example being \"Ichi\", which is simply  the number one.

Using the arabic numerals in names is admitadly quite wierd.

some other name related points...

A great many names started off as descriptive terms or job listings - I mean, think about the english family names Smith, Cartwright, Cooper, Mason, Miller, Baker, Farmer, etc.

Most names used in english are actually just words or phrases in other languages (or even just old or middle english), that may have been corrupted somewhat heavily by their use as names in places that don\'t use those languages. The name \"Kelly\" for example, derrives, I believe, from a gaelic word for warrior. In most of the world, I believe that name meanings are generally well known and immediately recognizable. If you name your daughter \"Ai\" in Japan, there isn\'t a person who speaks the language who won\'t know that her name is, litterally, Love.

Certain name elements refer to social status. The name \"Fitz\" actually means bastard (ie. illegitimate child), for example, and would be given to an acknowledged bastard child of an aristocrat.

Then of course, you have surnames like \"Leifsdottir\" or \"Erikson\" which basicly just say who your father was.

Really, when people say \"pick something that doesn\'t mean anything\" - they are going completely against how people have been traditionally named.

Jacob Blarney 3rd, Steven White 4th etc would be acceptable in my book, but I would hope you would have the colorful history that made the 1st and 2nd SO noteworthy to make a 3rd or 4th worth the bother.

BUT...other than that tiny tiney exception, I agree, numbers and names don\'t go well together in the extremely vast majority of cases.

Because I have to agree with Karyuu, numbers shouldn\'t be in any names. Ever seen a real name with a number in? Don\'t think so .. it just doesn\'t work even though many people online use it. I personally can\'t stand it and will be hesitant to talk to anyone who isn\'t original enough to create a name without actual numbers in it.

The other part of your name seems fine to me though.

I think that the more things that a player has to actually do in game, be it killing a different mob, grouping to kill a bigger mob, crafting, mining, questing etc the less of the crowding around one or two mob types hitting the agro button, then 5 to 15 seconds later hitting the loot button.

I would think that improving the variety of mobs and number of spawns, and either upping loot drops or the values of the items that are dropped, OR lowering the cost on training up, should be a higher priority than thieving or stealth.

Maybe having a larger world would help too, right now most of the game feels like playing in a shoe box.

I have had auto decline not work for me. And the main reason that I had gotten challenged was to keep me from attacking a rat. Two people challenge spammed me, that way ONE of them could grab the rat spawn.

This infantile behavior went down a little bit once the rat spawns were fixed, but would drop conciderably more if the number of mobs that drop loot, give xp and give skill ups for using skills were upped, tripling the type and number might do.

But...I have given up, the RPers do not want the game improved and any new tester is immediately tarred feathered and then hanged drawn and quartered.

Yes I keep coming back to see if the game is any better, but...I expect that this game will improve at only SLIGHTLY faster than the speed of evolution in nature.

Fear of allowing anyone BUT a pure role player in and making any other type of player comfortable is going to be the demise of this game. But the future is not set in stone.

There are at least two kinds of \"lag\" that I know of, one is network lag, could be server side OR client side. And then there is \"system chew\" (that is what I call it at least), this is where your system is either too weak/slow or there is a code versus system driver issue.  Sometimes it is hard/impossible to tell the difference unless you are a good coder.

I routinely get over 60 FPS in PS...and I tend to have a better set up than most that cry for a free game, and run a high end DSL.

Unless the main page is totally inaccurate (which has been a recent debate, and my experience is that much of the main page should be taken with at least a tiny bit of salt) the plans are to keep it FREE...forever...period.

As to when it will finally be \"finished\"...in all honesty...when has any MMORPG ever reached finished?  Well maybe after a game pulls the plug it is finished...meaning no more development...but until then...no game ever stops changing.

And since they have no plans of charging...how will we ever tell that it is released??  They tell us? maybe...otherwise, it is just anyones guess.

MC the main reason that your calculations had troubles was chaos. Nature appears to have \"rules\" but when humans, with our mathematics tries to find a formula for these \"natural rules\" sometimes Nature throws a monkey wrench called Chaos into our system and *sound of machinery exploding and gears grinding and popping* things don\'t work mathematically like we see them working in reality.

For instance, with rabbits, owls, and eagle...to use your system rules (small herbie, small pred, large pred). The rabbits have a HUGE reproductive rate to support the other two species, plus the other two species DO eat other prey than just within the three species (owls eat rabbits, but are ten to 12: 1 better mouser/rat hunters than ferile cats, and eagles eat owls and fish and.... long list).

I understand the trouble with programming exinctions or near extinctions (thunder bird/pheonix for example), it is mathematical. The systems are TOO complex for even the STRONGEST Pay to Play games...not to mention PS. Some come reasonably close, but not quite (the one game I am thinking of the GM\'s program in the replacement of one mob type with its preditor type. it is hardly automatic).

And the error in your math is NOT in your logic, it was not in your intellegence level either...it is simply that trying to force nature into systems smaller than 100 species misses a few key elements. And I doubt that this game could handle the coding needed for such a complex preditor/prey system...heck I doubt EQ coding could take it!

I like the tattoo and the horns!

Other ideas for other \"faces\" and skins:
different \"gems\" for Krans to be, right now they look like blue diamonds with high quality amethysts embeded in them here and there. I would like to see saphires, maybe \"fire opals\", moonstones, etc.

Different kinds of cats for the cat race like white and orange tigers, lions (male with THICK luxurious mane of hair, female with no mane of course), various leopards, Lynx (tufts of hair at the ears and interesting coloring).

Different colors of scales for the winged race, as I recall they are light blue now, how about a darker blue option, or green, maybe red.

NO rush on any of this...just when you get around to it.

I like the idea of a role playing chat forum so to speak...in game you have a seperate chat tab where you can stay if you are role playing. If you are OOC...you would not type in there...therefore NOT bothering the current RP environment/immersion, but communication of a game mechanics nature COULD continue in game.

I tend to support as many options in a beta/test/game I test/play as the coding will support, I find that this attitude allows for the highest number of tester/players having the most fun out of the parts of the test/game that they enjoy.

There are players and there are role players, every other game I have played or tested has had this discussion of role playing and an offical set of rules governing RP. The game that I found that had the BEST RP system was Horizons (the game play stinks on ice, but on the RP servers...when I played...the RP environment ROCKED), where the chat rooms for RP where not only possible, but were normally the highest populated chat rooms in the game. And where the dragons found and built onto a role playing language of their own (it makes perfect sense that a dragon could make sounds that humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, and cat people just could NOT make, and dragons would have issues saying some sounds that the nondragons can make.)

I think if both groups understand that eventually...unless the game developers and GM\'s chose to ban or run off one type of player...there WILL be both types of players. (There are in fact five player types...if you include role playing. They are Explorer, achiever, killer and social, and role player...since social MIGHT be role player...or might just like to do groups and guild stuff).

Since this game is NOT for profit...it can run off as many players as it wants and still \"stay afloat\" I guess this \"freedom\" to alienate certain player types might be a good thing, or maybe not.

I like the solution that Star Trek uses for any story thread or time line incongruity...spacial anomoly. Think about it, the planet is traveling through space, hits a time rift and POP...we are all back to the start of our lives...with nothing (since we never went out and got anything to begin with...in this time line anyway).

Yes, the gods got mad at us, a plague raged...whatever...or the rats finally got their time in the lime light and we got our come upance.

I think the wrath of the gods/plague thing sound most probable in midevil setting.  Since a plague would not really kill player/testers...we would just be reborn (remade after the wipe) without anything to call our own.

After a week off for moving and joining another beta test, I logged on last night (the other games servers were down for maintenence) and found about five...probably MORE spawns.

Now were these NEW spawns or unbugged old spawns...Don\'t know...don\'t care. There are confirmed at LEAST five new spawns...rats, from the most known entrance to the area you have to jump over to get into. I didn\'t venture any further because I got tired...and more than a little bored. I guess the other beta has me spoilt.

I will keep dropping by to see how things go, but logging on daily, reading this forum or posting bug reports on OLD known...but still existing bugs doesn\'t strike me as productive.

Once a patch happens and some old bugs are eliminated...I will return...wipe or not, afterall any serious tester knows that wipes WILL happen.

I understand that some enjoy the game as is, and more power to them, but in its current form, I don\'t even feel that testing is worth it.  Yes I am a role player, but currently I find it very very hard to find role players in game.

Currently there are very many bugs that are known, not sure of their statis (under repair, known but debug not known, or \"just learn to live with it\"). I am used to a project that moves slightly faster than evolution.

I found another beta that I am working on, I feel more useful there.

I don\'t beta test for enjoyment, I beta test to test  and if things I find are known, and haven\'t been fixed for months, and their repair dates are \"unknown\" or \"its just a beta, get OVER it!!!\" then I pretty much feel that my time is wasted reading the forum, posting bug reports or logging on.

My plans are to keep the client (it took over six HOURS to download it, I don\'t care HOW crappy it is, it stays!) and give the project a year or two and come back to see if it is in need of a tester then.  I doubt the serious \"go away \"  attitude will change.  And I am not sure if the developers realize the harm that it is doing the game, but either way.

But if you mean no need for other features in game, I respectfully disagree with you. I find that animations, loot like lutes, lires, harmonicas, robes/dresses/social clothing that shows, ambient sounds of laughter, cats meowing or fighting, dogs barking, hammer hitting anvil in blacksmiths shop and other sounds you would expect in this games setting (this game got the ambient sound levels RIGHT!! Kudos guys and gals, you are the FIRST out of 10 or 12 games I have either tested of played that got the ambient sound level exactly at the level I would have adjusted background to be!!!!), smoke rising from the pit at the back of the red temple, other TINY little things that grab you the PLAYER and yank you into you the CHARACTER.

What I really meant was that the game is able to be enjoyable without new features such as the ones you describe.  Those features are comming, we just have to be patient and wait for them.  But until that time comes we can still make the game fun.  We, the players can do it.  We don\'t need more features for this to be possible.  Those features are nice, but heck, alot of people play MUD\'s and even planeshift started out as one.  I think imagination is the key to a MUD in a way, and PS is somewhere inbetween right now.  As I run down the streets I imagine I see an animal peeking out from a corner, or a drunkard laying in the street in front of the tavern.  I make the features up for myself in my head.  I imagine stories of places, why they are there, etc.

In a way I actually think that all kinds of beautiful graphics, neat animations etc are akin to a movie production of a famous book.  They can add to it, make it cool and beautiful, but it will never compare to the way you originally imagined it when you read the book.  A world too perfectly drawn draws away from imaginiation.

My issue is the lighting in there makes it impossible to get out without dying again.

When I spawn in death world, I just use the /spawn command to get out. PLEASE do not disable that command until you FIX the lighting issue.  I would stay and help, but it is rather clear that forum mods feel that they have more than enough testers for their desires.

I will leave, test another game that is more than able to handle a few thousand testers at a time and are interested in new input.

I will likely return in a year or so, long after the wipe and rat fest is over.

The game has the potential to be good, IF people will allow it.
